View Full Version : What is becoming of our kids?

Today my son told me that only 4 kids in his class even stand up when the pledge of allegiance is recited in the morning. There is no "under God" said over the intercom although the 4 kids who stand say, "under God." In this class, only 2 kids (my son and one other) are American born - the rest were born in other countries, but raised here. I posted a video of the girl leading a movement for free public college, cancellation of all student debt and $15 minimum wage for campus jobs, and I wonder what is becoming of our kids.

Is it that they feel so entitled to free breakfast, free lunch, - that now they want free tuition, no student debt? And not standing for the pledge of allegiance - is there no patriotism, no respect for the flag, no appreciation for those who have fought for the freedom that we enjoy? I'm just shaking my head at what is to become of the next generation.

One thing I am glad of is that the NBA always gives due respect to the flag, our national anthem and the military.

The pledge shouldn't have God in it. The socialists who wrote it didn't include it and it wasn't until the second red scare that Congress panic added God.

OTOH, we all used to salute like fascists of one stripe or another...

They leave out the "under God" over the intercom. It's the NOT standing I object to - they don't have to say it but at least, stand. I guess it bugs me that they don't believe the words of the pledge - even with all its problems, it's still the best place to live in the world - the place with the most freedom and liberty. This is what I worry about - when immigrants don't assimilate and become Americans. Our traditions and customs - what makes us American - disappear.

But, what if every company had the same expectations we have for schools.....US pledge, TX pledge and a moment of silence...How many adults would do it everyday?

It starts at home. If you instill a sense of pride, patriotism, and value "liberty and justice for all" at home, your kids will grow up with those values. If you don't, a mindless recital of those values at school isn't going to change it.

Maybe the problem is parents.

Well then it's confusing why you are asking "what's becoming of our kids"

If they come from different countries and cultures, do you want public school to force the kids to adapt and conform to your idea of what a good, patriotic kid should be?

Maybe, after being with them through 2 1/2 years of classes/lunch etc., my son can take a pretty good guess as to who believes and who doesn't (among the gifted kids he mostly has (academic) classes with - I don't mean PE or Keyboard). The ideology (and whether they believe in God) of some teachers/students come out in discussion. My son thinks it's funny how his AP Chemistry (not Biology) teacher injects her climate change stuff in through eg. giving extra credit for paper on climate change.

well I don't know any good parent that thinks letting kids do whatever they want to do is a good thing.

But as long as the kids aren't being mistreated or harmed, it's really not your concern about what parents want to teach their kids about religion. And it's certainly not the public schools concern either.

Who cares if those kids don't believe or stand for the pledge? Why should they have to just because you believe in it? Do my kids? Yes. They do because they see daddy do it at games and stuff. I don't force them to do it but they see my example.

The problem with kids today is the stupid parents. Stupid parents fighting everything. They fight because Jimmy feels like he should be Sally and they want him in the girls' lockerroom even though those girls will be exposed to something that they shouldn't have to be exposed to. Fighting because little Johnny doesn't stand for the pledge so he must be an atheist. Fighting because all the kids do/don't get a trophy in sports.

How about you just raise your kids to be good kids and respect other people? If everyone started doing that instead of worrying about other people's beliefs then this country/world would be better.

Nowhere in this thread do I say that I think religion is good or bad. I said that I was surprised that most of the kids in his classes were atheists (when their parents were probably Catholics).

Someone in the ISIS in Afghanistan thread said I should have posted that video under this thread and now that I think of it, maybe I should have. They are teaching/indoctrinating their kids into their beliefs/religion and it seems that we are not. Maybe that's why some of our kids are attracted to/join them to get that sense of belonging that they aren't getting here in America. The lack of passing on customs, religion, traditions - it's no wonder some of them are adrift.

In the future, their people will strongly share their religion/beliefs/goal of killing the infidels while the US will be a nation of people who don't have anything in common - certainly not love of country. What does anyone see in this scenario? We'll be sitting ducks.

A couple weeks back a teacher got fired. Here was the scenario: Johnny is 6 years old. He identifies as a transgender so over a weekend, his parents cut his hair short and dresses him in girls' clothes and sends her to school requesting that she now be called Sally. The teacher is notified and she explains to the class that they must now refer to Johnny as Sally. It's now November so the kids have been calling him Johnny since Aug/Sept. The teacher has been put in an impossible situation. She can't control the teasing/comments from the other kids. The parents of the transgender complains, and the teacher is fired. How could she make 6 years old understand - they have no filter on their mouths - they just say what they think.

The parents should have done this over the summer and transferred him to another school where Johnny was not known.

My point wasn't to disrespect his/her. The point was the lack of respect for those girls in the locker room.

As someone who has a daughter, I would think you could respect that point of view. Not that the boy/girl would try anything but because those girls have a right not to be exposed to male genatalia if they choose not to.

I don't want to get it into it. To me it's the same as forcing any other point of view on others.

As dumb as I think it is for a SIX year old to be transitioning, I still think that the employers have a right to do what they want with their business to an extent. That teacher/s didn't get fired for their beliefs. They got fired for not following what the employer expected of them.

Except for this part:

The teacher is notified and she explains to the class that they must now refer to Johnny as Sally. It's now November so the kids have been calling him Johnny since Aug/Sept. The teacher has been put in an impossible situation. She can't control the teasing/comments from the other kids. The parents of the transgender complains, and the teacher is fired.

Nowhere in the video did she say she attempted to have the kids call Sally "Johnny".
Nowhere in the video does it show the transgender kid's parents complaining resulting in her termination. The school accommodated the transgender kid apparently from day 1.

U.S. Movies and T.V. Shows Have U.S. Army Ratings

The U.S. Army and Air Force public relations offices have responded to a Freedom of Information Actrequest (http://www.spyculture.com/biggest-ever-foia-release-from-pentagon-entertainment-liaison-office) by releasing huge lists of movies and television shows that they have assessed and, at least in many cases, sought to influence.

Films show up in theaters without any notice that they have been influenced by the Army or Air Force or other branch of the military. And they carry ratings like G, PG, PG-13, or R. But the Army’s until-now-secret assessments of films also give them ratings. Every rating is positive and cryptic. They include:

Supports Building Resiliency,
Supports Restoring Balance,
Supports Maintaining our Combat Edge,
Supports Adapting Our Institutions,
Supports Modernizing Our Force.

Some films have multiple ratings. Truth in advertising, I think, would include these ratings on previews and advertisements for films. I’d like to know what the Army thinks of a film. It would make my decision to avoid it much easier. Go ahead and scroll through the Army document linked above, and chances are you’ll find out what a movie you’re currently interested in or recently saw is rated by the folks who brought you Iraq, Libya, Afghanistan, Yemen, Pakistan, Somalia, ISIS, Al Qaeda, and top ratings worldwide for the U.S. as the nation considered the greatest threat to peace on earth (Gallup, December 2013).

Here’s a comment from Zaid Jilani at Salon (http://www.salon.com/2015/07/31/youre_watching_pentagon_propaganda_american_idol_i ce_road_truckers_and_the_truth_about_your_favorite _shows): “The sheer scale of the Army and the Air Force’s involvement in TV shows, particularly reality TV shows, is the most remarkable thing about these files.

‘American Idol,’

‘The X-Factor,’

‘Masterchef,’

‘Cupcake Wars,’

numerous Oprah Winfrey shows,

‘Ice Road Truckers,’

‘Battlefield Priests,’

‘America’s Got Talent,’

‘Hawaii Five-O,’

lots of BBC, History Channel and National Geographic documentaries,

‘War Dogs,’

‘Big Kitchens’ —

the list is almost endless. Alongside these shows are blockbuster movies like Godzilla, Transformers, Aloha and Superman: Man of Steel.”

That list is a sampling, nothing more. The full list goes on and on and on. It includes many films about wars or U.S. base construction. There’s an Extreme Makeover Home Edition at Fort Hood. There’s The Price Is Right’s Military Appreciation Episode. There’s a C-Span show called “The Price of Peace” — C-Span is of course often thought of as a neutral fly on the wall. There are, as mentioned above, lots of BBC documentaries — the BBC is of course often thought of as British.

All immigrants assimilate. Takes about 3 generations. I didn't speak the German of my great-great(ect) grandfather until I learned it in high school/college, just as I know quite a few Hispanics that don't speak Spanish, who all happen to be 3rd+ generation.

Sharia law is spreading almost unopposed in the former pro-Hitler nations, where lingering guilt over the Jewish holocaust now protects Sharia, seen as the law of another religious minority. Sharia courts presided by Muslim "peace judges" now dot Germany, where even non-Muslim German judges in German courts cite Sharia law and quote from the Quran to uphold polygamy and husbands' right to beat wives when judging cases involving Muslims.

Muslim Street PrayerIn Austria, the government is convicting even non-Muslims of violating Sharia law. In 2011, Vienna High Court upheld the lower court conviction of Elisabeth Sabaditsch-Wolff for making this factual statement about Muhammad:

"We all know that Muhammad married Aisha when she was 6 years old and consummated the marriage when she was 9. Now, what do we call this behavior if not pedophilia."

In France, home to 13 million Muslims, the government no longer controls the banlieus (right, below is Venice, Italy), the densely-populated, predominantly Muslim ghettos that encircle most major French cities and where the French police seldom patrol. If that were to change, the Muslim population among France's prison inmates would rise even higher than the current 70%. All meat sold in Paris is now Halal, having been sacrificed to Allah the moon god.

In Denmark, Muslims are calling for areas with large Muslim populations like Copenhagen's Tingbjerg to become Sharia law zones patrolled by Muslim religious police modeled after Saudi Arabia's muttawa to apprehend and punish all Sharia law violators.

Such Muslim police already exists in Spain, where Sharia courts now threaten women for driving cars or working outside the home. Recently, a woman accused of adultery was sentenced to death by a Sharia court and escaped it by seeking refuge in a government police station.

In Holland, where "Muhammad" is now the most common name for boys born in its four largest cities (Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague, Utrecht), death sentences against Sharia law-breakers actually have been carried out. High profile victims include Pim Fortuyn and Theo van Gogh, both killed for criticizing the self-proclaimed "Religion of Peace".

And right here in the good ole USA:

<NationalReport>In a surprise weekend vote, the city council of Dearborn, Michigan voted 4-3 to became the first US city to officially implement all aspects of Sharia Law. The tough new law, slated to go into effect January 1st, addresses secular law including crime, politics and economics as well as personal matters such as sexual intercourse, fasting, prayer, diet and hygiene. The new law could see citizens stoned for adultery or having a limb amputated for theft. Lesser offenses, such as drinking alcohol or abortion, could result in flogging and/or caning. In addition, the law imposes harsh laws with regards to women and allows for child marriage.

Some in town seem to welcome the new legislation while others have denounced the move as “abhorrent”, a threat to freedom and incompatible with the Constitution. When asked by National Report about the need for such a law, local resident Jeremy Ahmed stated:

“It is because of our need that Allah the Almighty, in all his generosity, has created laws for us, so that we can utilize them to obtain justice. We hope to see other cities taking this action in the face of the governments inaction of passing such legislation”.

Other local residents have taken to social media sites with comments ranging from “praise be to Allah” and “long live Islam” to “RIP Dearborn” and “Only in Obama’s America would an American city consider Sharia Law”.
The city of Dearborn is a well-known safe haven for Muslims and Muslim sympathizers. With a population of around 98 thousand people, roughly 30% of its residence are Muslims making them the largest concentration of Muslims in the United States.

The dangers of Sharia Law in America were first outlined in a 2010 study produced by the Center for Security Policy (CSP) titled “Sharia: The Threat to America“, a 352-page book based on authoritative sources of Islamic law. While sharia includes strict rules for prayer and fasting, it is also an all-encompassing legal and political code that covers all aspects of life including those that have nothing to do with religion.

Judge Christa Datz-Winter was subsequently removed from the case.

"City in Michigan First to Fully Implement Sharia Law" — Is there any validity to this story?
Origins: On 28 October 2013, the National Report published an article positing Dearborn, Michigan (a city with a historically large Muslim population), had become the first U.S. city to implement Sharia law:

http://www.snopes.com/images/red.gifFALSE

The National Report's disclaimer page notes:

National Report is a news and political satire web publication, which may or may not use real names, often in semi-real or mostly fictitious ways. All news articles contained within National Report are fiction, and presumably fake news. Any resemblance to the truth is purely coincidental.

One should never simply dismiss something as false, merely because the source is biased. But one should definitely subject biased sources to a wee bit more scrutiny when it comes to assertions.

(edit)

Unless, of course it is presented as "fake news" satire. In that case you can dismiss it. :p:

But Sabaditsch-Wolff was convicted of the second charge against her, namely "denigration of religious beliefs of a legally recognized religion," according to Section 188 of the Austrian Criminal Code.

The judge ruled that Sabaditsch-Wolff committed a crime by stating in her seminars about Islam that the Islamic prophet Mohammed was a pedophile (Sabaditsch-Wolff's actual words were "Mohammed had a thing for little girls.")

Easy fail. The law was not "sharia" but a long-standing one that was meant to curb antisemitism.

Yes, I understand the difference. I was hopping between threads and one of the posts on the other thread was on Bernie leading Trump.

I think Gallup is not doing any presidential polls because they messed up the last one. But some so called new stories are bs too like the Politico one on Carson which the left wing media take and run with and when Politico back-tracks, the other outlets don't correct the mis-information. It's getting to the point that whenever I hear some sensational story about Trump or Carson that seems should doom them for good, it turns out to be a mis-quote, non-quote, twisted, or out of context. And it seems to only pump up Trump's numbers in the polls (yes, I know, only polls :-)

All pollsters are complaining about the lack of response from the polled, used to be 35%, now down to 10%, so polling results very unreliable.

Climate science draws on multiple fields, chemistry among them.

Associating the sometimes mundane and boring parts of the sciences to topical things is not only appropriate, but is generally encouraged.
