View Full Version : Parker being brutally honest again

I thought Parker was being his usual honest self during the post-game interviews last night (emphasis mine below).

He mentioned something that player fans here have a tough time understanding, and is also the first this year (I believe) to talk about winning a championship:

It doesn't matter on this team. It depends what's going on, who's hot, who's got the advantage in matchup. ... It doesn't matter, we just want to win a championship.

Then he reacted strongly to a reporter asking him about LMA's slow start this season:

Leave LaMarcus alone, he's doing great. He's getting double-doubles. He's doing what Pop wants. He's knocking down shots, playing good defense, getting rebounds. That's what we want. He's not going to average 30 points. Nobody does that here in San Antonio.

And a couple of bonus quotes:

Pop:

I thought he was great. He's had some games where he's started slowly, but overall what matters is what he is doing now. He is playing really good defense. He's being really active and aggressive offensively.

Kawhi:

He got it going tonight. Once he gets it going, he makes the game easier for all of us. All we're doing is catching and shooting. That is the easiest shot of the game.

Good post OP. Just reiterating what everyone already knows. We are a good team because of our good players. Pretty simple logic.

Kawhi also answered when asked about Tonys big night, "Thats spurs basketball." Everyone gets their turn based on who has the matchup or is feeling hot. They're all happy about it.

We haven't even gelled yet, and the spurs lost one game to a buzzer beater and a breakdown in defense while leading in the 4th of another. They're on pace for something great tbh.

I know right!? Outside of leading the Spurs in scoring and assists throughout the regular season and playoffs and being the Spurs only All-Star and All-NBA player, all he did in the Finals was lead the Spurs in scoring. It's like, come on. Why can't you lead the Spurs in scoring, assists, rebounds, blocks, and steals along with leading in every advanced metric invented!

Exactly. Real fans are not fans of a player, team game and he did his part in those finals.... Game 7 against Dallas too he set the tone.

I'm afraid Parker is right in his assessment that nobody averages 30ppg for the Spurs any more...

It's a bad system to rely on one player for buckets. The Spurs are building a basketball machine, not an entertainment spectacle. There's a reason every coach with any logic is trying to craft teams like the Spurs. The last two titles have been won by teams playing historically dominant ball. The Dubs are rolling with Curry now, but he's the best shooter in history and they would still be lethal even if he shot less.

Yeah...different time, different coach, different system, & most importantly: Pre- championship Spurs...

I just checked and in the Duncan era only one player averaged more than 25ppg and it was Duncan himself and he did it only once. Actually most seasons no player averages more than 20ppg... that's what team basketball is about, whatever the Kobe fans say.
