How much?
Projecter was $799, reviewed as best bang for the buck on wirecutter and the Screen was about $250, again best bang for the buck on wirecutter.

Haven't got it yet Trill, just ordered it. Will post a pic when I get it in and setup though. Projector and screen both supposed to be here by December 7th.

So how would you have theater sound if you wanted it?

Example: I want to set up a small projector in my office, and interface cable to the projector via wireless transmitter/receiver. Would I get sound from the cable converter box or the projector? Or would I need a separate system for that?

HDMI from a blu-ray player (or whatever source) to an AV Receiver connected to home theater speakers. The AV receiver would then by HDMI connected to the projector.

Ok. It seems like a large flat panel would be a better option of sound is a concern then, since I wouldn't need the extra components. Granted I wouldn't have theater surround but most large flat panels have decent sound quality already, especially for an office.

Most large flat panes actually have pretty poor sound. It's hard to put good speakers in flat panels and most manufacturers assume you'll be using your own soundbar or surround sound system. Some (though very few) tv's are specially built with high quality sound in mind though... Here's one from sony that's good: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/sony-75-class-74-5-diag--led-2160p-smart-3d-4k-ultra-hd-tv-black/2639155.p?id=1219551828390&skuId=2639155

Cost to image size can't be beat by a projector. If you wanted a giant LCD TV, 1080p isn't gonna cut it either tbh, it will look like shit. 4K doesn't have hardly any content at the moment, not to mention a good 4k TV at 80-90" is gonna run you 5-6 grand at the least.

You'll need to listen to them at the store before you buy. So many flat panel tvs do sound that bad.

Sure, but I don't plan on putting a 90" image on my wall. Still, I might get a small projector just to avoid the hassle of hanging the TV and the easier interface with the laptop for teleconference presentations (whilst I lay on my couch lol).

Went with Benq HT1075. According to reviews it's about the best projector you can get for under 1k. They actually say it compares favorably with many of them that are 3-4k.

DMC as far as the sound goes it would be as good or bad as you would want I imagine. I mean you can by a home theater surround sound system to go with hit which would sound really good.

Seperate speaker system/receiver. No one buys the projector for the sound - it's all in when you do a projector/screen with the audio purchase as well.

I have a home theater and it's great - full HD (picture looks phenomenal which is the key with the projector/screen part) and I made the investment into a great receiver/speakers as well (did 5.1 surround vs 7.1 due to the room).

In all honesty, you can get the full setup for about 5K all the way up to 100K+. But to me, I've found that 5K is about the number to get the stuff you won't regret.

Yeah - it can be steep for an office - especially when quality TVs are so cheap now. I just love the sound/screen so I have a dedicated room.

Setup is way easier than you would think though. The screen is just a simple track you bracket into the wall and hang. If you get a good receiver, it's really simple for hooking up everything. I have one main HDMI that runs from my projector to receiver.

Then everything else just goes through the receiver (blu-ray, cable, apple tv, etc..). So you just filter through the inputs on the receiver and it's all good.

DPG21920

My receiver was probably about $600 (on sale). They have so many it depends on your budget and what you want. If you really do your research on what features you want, hunt sales and are willing to buy a model that is a year or two old (not used, but just like buying an older model iPhone when they go on sale) you can get one for about $200-300.

I spent a little more on mine because I wanted very certain features, namely the ability to be controlled wirelessly via app. So now I can control sound, turn on music and filter through all inputs just on my iphone which is nice.

Plus like I said, it has a ton of HDMI inputs so I can hookup all devices and it's nice and neat, plus it has the ability to do "zones" so I can have a movie on upstairs on zone 1 speakers, while having music downstairs on zone 2 speakers. Stuff like that.

Ya - its crazy how good and cheap tvs are now. Most instances you are fine with TV. I just love Sports and movies and for the money at that screen size, it was better sound/size for me personally for the price.

But almost everyone should be very happy with a nice Vizio (I have one in the room) too.

Budget is important, but I'm just saying don't skimp on the receiver. If you absolutely can't afford it, no worries. But in the big scheme of things an extra $200-400 for a great receiver that you will keep for 10+ years is worth it.

Just be sure (IMO) your receiver has:

1) A ton of HDMI inputs - everything uses HDMI so you want to be sure your receiver can handle
2) Bluetooth/Wireless - this isn't critical, but sure is nice. You don't want to have to put a cord in every time you want to listen to music. You just want to be able to pull up Spotify on your phone and start playing.

For me it's more about the use I will get from it. I have already 5 large flat panels in my home. I have my own TV room that would be better suited for a projector than would my home office, however my plan there is to upgrade to a larger flat panel ("75"+) that's got the refresh rate and resolution that I want, and then I can use the wireless cable transmitter/receiver setup to avoid any more cable runs in my home (got way too many already). I'm still a bit old school, I like nice woodwork in TV consoles/stands and such, and to keep my components hidden as much as possible.

I've seen the smaller projectors used for laptops and such, those are cool. I might end up with one of those since the wall I want to project to only has about 100" available before it gets to my raised dual monitors. I could lower the monitors but I like my custom stand. 1st world problems.

Mine is all pretty clean and hidden. All speakers are in-ceiling and the projector mounted. Wires all run through the attic and behind the wall and come out in one wall run behind the cabinet. It's just all about what you want - you can pretty much do anything which is cool.

I have a tv in all guest rooms, my room and the living room, but that media room is the entertainment piece. It's where we entertain so it was worth it for us. But for an office? :lol That would be excessive.

Yes he is. He had a whole thread dedicated to trashing beats I do believe lol.

No. I started a thread regarding Beats and everyone chose to shit on them because it's the "in" thing to do now. It's funny because about 30 minutes ago a Van Halen song (early VH) came on and I was thinking about how a bunch of people a long time ago were saying that Eddie sucked and was overrated. I hadn't heard a whole lot of music or guitarists so I went along with it for a while. But a few years later, I realized there shouldn't have been much debate. Yep...dude was a badass. Anyway, I've never bashed Beats.

Thats the site I used when looking for my screen and Projector. They said Benq is best projector under 1k and by a good amount it appears.

Side note, just got my screen in today. Holy shit its huge. Will get a picture when I have it mounted on the wall.

Did you buy that Silver Ticket screen? If so, let us know if assembly is easy.

Yes I did. I put the frame together last night, it was relatively easy. Going to get it mounted on the wall today, doesn't seem too complicated though. Should look pretty nice when it's put up.

I recommend putting the screen exactly where you want it and then mount and adjust the projector to fill the screen.
