Every season we see a new black NCAA stud QB enter the NFL.

Clemson DeShaun Watson on his way.

Dak Prescott
Jameis Winston
Teddy Bridgewater
Russell Wilson
Cam Newton

As the NFL loses Peyton Manning.

Just a matter of time.

Last four seasons the NFC has had a black QB in the SB, and this season the Cowboys/Seahawks are the top seeds.

Now look at the NCAA playoffs, three of the teams with black QB's, And the title game will be two black QBs. A black QB just won the Heisman and a black QB might win the MVP, just like a black QB did last season.

Sure a lot of....black/QB.

Niners
Vikes
Bills
Panthers
Buc;s
Seahawks
Cowboys
Alabama
Clemson
Ohio State
Notre Dame

The days of the stand tall in the pocket are coming to an end.

It's like watching a little kid with a new toy with this chirping silliness. Like them you'll out grow it, get bored with it. I know that and you should.

Aaron Rodgers and Andrew Luck are not stand tall in the pocket QB's, come on guy. Eli Manning is a stand tall in the pocket, ok?

There goes Tony Romo, who replaces him? We will start seeing more and more of that as time goes by. Being able to put that run/pass??? stress on a defense, a weapon. Being able to extend plays, a weapon.

Pay attention.

The size WITH speed of these pass rushers today is amazing, they are so damn quick. To just plant a guy back there who can't move isn't going to work anymore. That is why mobile QB's (black) have won the NFC 4 years straight and will probably with it again this season. Sure, if ya have a Tom Brady ya can get by with his genius, but how many like him have we seen?

Teams wants athletes now, that's why they run that 40, do all those jumping, etc things. Teams want a QB who can escape, run, extend plays. We usually see that coming from black athletes, with a few exceptions like a Johnny Manziel.

Deacon Jones was a sprinter on the track team in college, he was a rare combo of size with speed back then, today everyone can run like that and faster. So how do ya off set that?

They're pocket passers who can also run. They're not the game-managing scrubs who can run fast that you fellate on a daily basis.

Tonight's bowl game between WKU and Memphis has the highest over-under of all bowls this year. Guess who's starting for both teams...yep...white pocket passers.

Tulsa's blowout win against CMU capped off a historic season in which their offense became the first in NCAA history with a 3,000-yard passer, two 1,000-yard receivers, and two 1,000-yard rushers. Guess who their quarterback is...yep...a white pocket passer.

While watcing Alabama, Clemson and Ohio State play, you'll see the kind of stress a mobile QB can put on any defense. That is where the game is heading. And it just makes sense. Ya get those big defenders chasing a speedy QB around, where are they in the 4th Q, yep...tuckered out. Now add extending plays, giving those receivers time to seperate.

What do ya gain standing tall in the pocket, yep...nothing.

Of course having mobility is a plus... but if your main instinct is to take off and run then you are not going to have success for very long in the league. It's been proven time and time again.

Not really talking about the read option, more about having a guy who can run and pass. Randall Cunningham could run and he played for 16 seasons.

I;ve played running QB's it's a whole other deal than facing some white guy you know has no wheels. I was a cornerback/RB/KR, when facing a runner ya have to keep your eyes n the backfield, meaning you can't give that receiver 100% attention, which you can do with a non runner.

There's Eli in third and three, what is the defense thinking? There is Russell Wilson in third and three, that is a totally different situation, will he run? Eli ain't running.

That abilty to extend a play and plant that seed....will he run or pass...is where the game is heading. That stand tall in the pocket with no threat at all of the run days are coming to an end. Pass rushers are getting faster and faster so how do you slow them down, yep, "will he run or pass?"

We saw what a running/mobile QB can do tonight. The damage they do to any defense. And while a guy like Aaron Rodgers has good mobility he's not planting that....run or pass....seed.

We saw a running QB win the Heisman, we just saw two mobile QB's in the NCAA title game, a mobile QB was last seasons NFL MVP and this season there is a chance a mobile black QB will be in the SB or a mobile Aaron Rodgers.

Expecting linemen to hold off defenders while the QB surveys the field, cool.......if you're Tom Brady.

Mobile/running QB's will be the NFL QB soon, and most will be black. Not talking the read option or a run first QB. Just a guy who can scoot if needed. Unlike a Manning, Brady, etc.

We could see a black QB win the NCAA and the SB. With black mobile QB's playing in the last five SBs.

It's third and four, there stands Eli Manning. What is the defense thinking, yep....pass. There stands Russell Wilson, Dak Prescott, Cam Newton, now it's....watch for the run. Which does what to the pass defense, yep...hesitation.

Nobody is talking about that. What is being talked about is just something else a defense must defend, a running QB. And not the read option, just a guy who does have the ability to scoot 20 yards, something n Eli, Peyton or Tom just can't do.

That ability to roam around back there, which does wear out the big guys chasing and gives receivers time to get open.

Why have a QB who can't do those things, it simply makes no sense.

Here’s the first look at 2017, with team standings drawn from Las Vegas odds to win the Super Bowl:

Cleveland Browns: Deshaun Watson, QB, Clemson

Before the 2015 season, we asked if Watson was the best quarterback prospect in all of college football. While Cal’s Jared Goff likely surpassed him in that department, Watson’s all-around tools are difficult to match. He has the strong arm to drive the ball into tight windows, though it’s his touch on two-level throws that impresses most. There’s still room to grow from a quarterbacking standpoint as he can learn to get through his reads better and his accuracy wanes at times, but Watson is poised for a huge season and he’s the early favorite to be the first quarterback off the board. The Browns waited to invest heavily in a new franchise quarterback and that may pay off next year.

Black QBs have been starting for big programs in the college game for over 30 years. This is not anything new. Only difference is the NFL has slightly evolved to run offenses to suit the running QBs, but at the end of the day, still need to be a strong pocket passer to be an elite QB.

Dak is the only "black" QB who can actually throw the ball accurately, all the rest of them have been exposed over the years... I give Winston a shot in the future but most of the great QBs right now are all white. Carr is the best of the new QBs and Rodgers/Ryan have at least 5 years of elite play, even Brady might be relevant for the next 3-4 years if healthy.

He`s better NFL prospect for rebuilding team. I don`t do mock drafts, I read them. Most of them have Trubisky evan as #1 overall, meanwhile Watson is 2/3 round talent, but because he`s a QB, he can slip into late 1st round. EOT

What does Warren Moon have to do with this? Randall Cunningham could throw the ball very well. He was a very good QB for a long time.

There's white QBs who can do the same thing as well in this league like Rodgers, Luck, Carr, etc. The game did change a bit in 2012 when he had running QBs have big seasons like Kaep, RGIII, and Wilson, but the league has adjusted overall and teams realize they need a strong pocket passer to go deep in the playoffs.

Newton got EXPOSED and he's not a great pocket QB, can't throw the ball...that's a very bad thing because mobility is something that doesn't last as he gets beat up and ages...you see how Vick can't even get a job as a back-up anymore.

Wilson had next but I feel like his window is closing already with how much he's been beat up due to Seattle's crappy offensive line, and they are not exactly getting better defensively..

Prescott really is the only black QB with a bright future, and he's half white.

You aren't hearing me, are you? They get beat up, they are not GREAT at throwing the football. Dak Prescott and maybe Jameis Winston (if he can stop throwing INTs) are the only Black QBs in the NFL that can stay in the pocket and be effective throwing the ball.

I know you love Wilson but he isn't as great of a passer as he is a runner. Most black QBs that love to run with the ball end up having short careers because the athleticism fades with age and injury (took an ACL injury for RGIII to go from elite to trash)

are Wilson and Newton better than Andrew Luck or Derek Carr?

In Super Bowl-losing interceptions at the one-yard line? Sure.

And, what seperates Aaron Rodgers? Yep, his running ability.
Actually, what separates Rodgers is his uncanny ability to move around in the pocket to avoid pressure, his Hail Mary throws, and his smart usage of free plays on penalties - not to mention how great he is at reading defenses and picking them apart with his arm. His scrambling ability is just a nice bonus. And unlike the athleticism-dependent scrubs you champion, when Rodgers' athleticism declines and he can't scramble as well as he used to, he'll still play at an elite level without it because of his brain and his arm. Only 21 touchdowns - that's worse than Blake Bortles and only slightly better than the likes of Sam Bradford and Ryan Tannehill. 13th in DVOA and 14th in DYAR, which is worse than Andrew Luck (who you've been ridiculing for years), Andy Dalton and Alex Smith. Only 3,768 Effective Yards, meaning he played worse than the raw stats would indicate. His offense had games where they only put up 12, 3, 6, 3, and 10 points respectively, and the team regressed from an 11.3 SRS last season (good for second in the league) to a 2.1 SRS this season.

Struggle Wilson as a pocket passer is mediocre at best, and the individual and team results prove it.

And, what seperates Aaron Rodgers? Yep, his running ability.
:lmao Wilson has he edge over Brady because he won two regular season games against him but only choked away one Super Bowl against Brady? Is that seriously your logic?

His lack of mobility this year also exacerbated their pass protection woes tbh, he used to mitigate a lot of that. Their OL was already shaky and they've lost their two "best" linemen, Unger and Okung in recent seasons.

He has thrown from the pocket his until career to some degree, stop acting as if he's "ALWAYS" on the run that just isn't true.

Struggle doesn't help his O-line when he holds onto the ball for an eternity. I know the Struggle krew likes to use Seattle's O-line as a scapegoat (much like Kobe stans always blamed everything on Shaq and MVPau), but even Pete Carroll admits that Struggle could be doing more to avoid sacks:

The annual Football Outsiders Almanac is filled with a bunch of great numbers and useful information on all 32 teams, including the Seattle Seahawks. Below are three takeaways from this year's edition.
1. Russell Wilson holds the record for game-winning drives through a quarterback's first four seasons.
Wilson has brought the Seahawks back 18 times since the start of 2012. Pete Carroll constantly preaches "finish" and according to the Almanac, Wilson has done his part. When the team has faltered down the stretch, it's often been the defense that's had issues.
In the fourth quarter last year, Wilson posted a passer rating of 114.8, tops in the NFL. His nine to one touchdown to interception ratio in the fourth also ranked first.
Overall, the Seahawks have been an incredibly difficult team to blow out. According to the Almanac, they've either led or been within one score in the fourth quarter of 88 consecutive games. That's the longest streak in NFL history.

As the old guard start to retire what will be replacing them? Well in Dallas it will be a black QB who can run if need be.

Wilson, Newton, Winston, Taylor, Kaepernick, Bridgewater out there. Here comes Watson and other black QB's that can escape the rush, extend the play. That is where the NFL is heading.

Jameis is the only one on that list with a chance of replacing the old guard. He has some Big Ben and some Rivers to his game. The rest of those scrubs are all game managers at best. And hyping up Watson is just grasping at straws. According to WalterFootball, many front offices around the league see him as a third or even fourth-rounder. He's undersized, his accuracy was inconsistent at best this year, and he's only ever played in a dumbed-down spread offense at Clemson. Kizer and Mahomes are the best pro prospects at quarterback in this draft, IMO.

Analysis

Strengths

Wilson is an accurate passer. He is a very mechanical quarterback who is consistent in his drop step and thoroughly understands how to move within the pocket and evade when the pocket collapses. He is an athlete and can torque his body to make any sort of throw on the run, and is accurate in this setting. He is a born signal caller who shows command of the offense. He has the arm strength to make the deep throws and the touch to put it on a receiver in stride. He is effective when scrambling and is a classic play extender. Weaknesses

Wilson's height will be his biggest inhibitor at the next level and the largest reason for his late-round value. It remains to be seen if he can throw effectively from the pocket at the next level.

But now it matters, right?

There is a reason Watson has been a Heisman finalist/Champion, if you can't figure that out why am I not surprised. And 6-2.6-3....so what? He's not a short QB.

Does anyone get...."coming to a close"...?

If ya pay any attention to HS football, then you see it. Look at what played in the NCAA title foursome.

Alabama, Clemson and Ohio State all had black QB's. That is where we are heading, that guy who can put stress on a defense with his legs. A guy who can extend plays, evade the pass rush.

Tony Romo gets old and retires, who replaces him? And we are going to be be seeing more and more of that kind of thing.

IF....a white guy can move, has mobility, ok ok that will work. It's more about the unathletic stand tall in the pocket passer days are coming to an end, that is the white QB.

Clipper Nation

But... it's not "coming to a close." First, just look at who's still playing. Rodgers, Ryan, Brady, Roethlisberger...yep...white. Then look at the other quarterbacks around the league. Andrew Luck is 27. Derek Carr is 25. Carson Wentz is 24. Marcus Mariota is 23. Then you have Mitch Trubisky and Patrick Mahomes (half-white) entering this year's draft. Next year, Sam Darnold, Josh Rosen, and Josh Allen are coming out. I'm not seeing where the "era of the white QB" is ending anytime soon.

Since the late 1800's all those southern schools had white only football teams. That lasted up until the late 60's , so what happened? Give me the name of the last GREAT white RB out of the SEC, what.....Billy Cannon?

Times are changing, if you can't see it you don't want to. Yes we are seeing tons of black QB's in the HS todays, you really don't get what that means? Alabama with a black QB?

That ability to evade a rush, stress a D out with.....will he run or pass.....extending plays, is where the QB position is going. You really don't see that? If a white guy can play that, cool, but as we know blacks simply have those talents in abundance.

NCAA national champ....black QB

The vast majority of those players won't even make it to a major college program let alone the pros. And it's irrelevant to the OP's argument, which is that white QBs are on the decline in today's NFL.

When the NFL has a sustained period where whites are the overwhelming minority at the QB position and the trend shows no sign of reversing, then you can say the era of white QBs is coming to a close. Until then, it isn't. Especially when white QBs are still having all the success while players like Struggle and Scam Newton are regressing.

Football is changing guy, if ya can't see that why am I not surprised? Being about to extend plays, evade a pass rush, and being able to run, is where the QB position is going.

When was the last 4 year period where black QB's played in the SB's?

Keep in mind this is about an era coming to an end, ok? We are seeing the beginnings of that at all levels of football right now.

The USA used to have white sprinters on their Olympic teams, what happened? Where did the white cornerback go?

Generally, whites aren't fast enough to play cornerback which is the #1 attribute you'd want in a cornerback. It's great to have a QB that can run. But I'm not sure that he has to have RB skills. They just need to be athletic enough to scramble and throw on the run. And maybe one day we'll see a QB that has the passing of Brady and the running ability of Cam. But then, you also don't want your team leader running downfield and subjecting himself to the associated injuries.

Nobody is talking about a RUNNING QB, ok? I'm not talking about the read option. What I am talking about is a guy who isn't limited to having to hang in the pocket and if need be he can run for 10 yards to move the chains. And the D knows this. What does that knowledge do to their mindset?

Dak Precott is the perfect example. He's not a runner but....he can~!~~~

Don't watch much HS football do you?

Top seeded NFC team....black QB
Rooke of the year...black QB?
Heisman winner...black QB, second....black QB
Black QB's have played in 4 of the last 5 SB's
NFL MVP 2015...black QB

Nothing to laugh about, I'm also that guy who saw your Patriots when Babe Parili was passing to Gino Cappelletti.

I follow all of the game, and it starts with the high schoolers. As they get more into weight training and what they do there sets everything else up. Football coachs encouraging his players to run track, which builds that speed endurance.

Only fools ignore or don;t understand the role the HS game plays in all this.

Add the Texans to the teams with a black QB.

Last season it was the Cowboys.

Three of the first four QB's drafted....black.

That ability to run/scramble/evade a pass rush is a real big deal.

Blacks make up about 13% of Americans. About half are male so...7%, of that 7%, what % are between 20-25? Let's say....3%.

Watson's already beaten out Savage for the job? That's news to me.

Trubisky is white and Mahomes is half-white.

Again, once the day comes that white starting quarterbacks are the minority in the NFL, then you can speculate that "the era of the white QB is coming to a close."

It's more about the era of the classic pocket passer is coming to a close.

Look at all the mobile QB's right now.

WSU's Gardner Minshew threw 7 TD passes vs Arizona. He can extend plays and evade the pass rush and if need be scoot for 15ish. He's where the QB position is going. Not talking 4.4 sprinters at QB, just guys who can put that.....will he run?....pressure on a D.

Yes, a guy like Lamar Jackson won't last long running like he does. But, think what he does to a defense.

In todays NFL it is a huge plus if you have a QB with some serious mobility.

We could see....

Dak
Russell
Watson
Mahomes
Jackson....strecth
maybe....Cam

Russ and Cam won't both be in the playoffs....... they both won't make the wild cards now, I think Panthers are out at this point. Seattle wins all the tiebreakers because all their losses were to the the Rams or the AFC.

They win out... umm, they have both games left against Brees, so that's about as possible as a tornado outbreak hitting LA on Christmas this year.

Only loseable game left for Seattle is KC at home, who knows what KC will be playing for by then... so yeah, Seattle is in the driver's seat for that #5 position.

Bears are an interesting team because they're the only playoff contender from either side with an actual good defense... per the eyeball test (stat-blind) i'd rank them the #1 defense in the league. Khalil Mack and Eddie Jackson are godly and they have a lot of other awesome pieces there too.

tannehill expected to be cut.

i think he'll fall into another starting job. he's a competent, low end starter. he can sign on somewhere as a bridge QB for a team that wants to develop a young one. there are a bunch of teams who could use that tbh...

giants, jags, broncos, redskins, ... and to a lesser degree the titans/bucs may need a new short term starter. or the panthers if they're actually shutting cam down. oakland if the talk of trading carr materializes

otherwise he'd be an elite backup for a team like philly

This is you the third post in:

The game is just too fast for sluggish white guys anymore. Where would a white QB be right now behind that Seattle line?

The big thing is extending a play, something black QB's can do because they are athletes, most could play another position, Tom Brady/Peyton Manning/Joe Montana/Dan Marino etc etc were "just" QB's only.

The defense knows where those 4 must be, so no need to worry about outside containment, while a RW puts more stress on a defense because of that...ZOOM!

Look at the NCAA right now, the top team in the nation, a black QB. The top ranked team in the NFC, a black QB. Defending NCAA champion, a black QB. What QB has played in more SB's lately, a black QB.

Sure, Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers (who is mobile) can make it work but that breed is dying out.

Dude, so all that ...WR Dwight Clark...is wrong? So the Niners had Young and Clark at TE...hahaha~~~

So ALL those football cards are wrong?

My God guy you really can't....I WAS WRONG....can you?

Blake, why not actually watch that game, ok? Just a few minutes and you'll see Clark out there at WR. You can't even do that?

Dude, talk about why you keep ignoring the fact I saw all his games....well? The guy was a WR.....ok?

He had to be, he knew Clark lined up at WR as we said in that game video. Why not actually look at it and see what Montana saw.

Blake, why would Montana call Clark a TE knowing he lined up at WR and Charles Young was his TE as was Earl Cooper.....well?

So the fact I saw him play every single game of his career is a non factor in this?

Talk to me guy.

When has Joe Montana said Clark played some tight end? I'm sure there was some plays here and there where he lined up at tight end with Walsh trying to trick a team in to a play. Teams really through to the TE back then.

You got it.

It was more......Dwight will do whatever it takes, if that means lining up tight no problem.

What is happening is a guy here ..Blake....goofed in calling Clark a TE, when corrected he couldn't..ok my bad. Ya see that guy will never admit he was wrong. That is all this is about.
