Right move, tbh..Love him or hate him, Kobe has had a place in the history of the game..It was really sad ending stuff for him..Really the only step to salvage something is to call it quit sooner than later..He will get a farewell tour..

As I said:

1) Kobe wasnt going to just decide to retire at the end of the year. He HAS to be the center of attention at all times. If hes retiring, he wants to make sure everyone knows it so he can talk about his career as much as possible. My guess is this wasnt the plan. He planned on playing one more year. Unfortunately the only thing the press wants to talk to him about is how awful he's shooting so he decided it was now or never.

2) Did you read his "poem"? Kobe is easily the douchiest person on the planet. Could you POSSIBLY be more self important? Good riddance, jackass.

eve CA 21 minutes ago (http://www.nytimes.com/2015/11/30/sports/basketball/kobe-bryant-announces-retirement.html#permid=16798536)Put it on the front page when Tim Duncan announces his retirement, as he's the antithesis of Kobe - selfless versus selfish, competitive without being arrogant, and willing to sacrifice statistics and salary for the sake of the team. I'd imagine Kobe has his good qualities as a person, like most of us, but as a basketball player it was all about himself.

FUCK OFF, KOBE (http://deadspin.com/fuck-off-kobe-1745231527)

These retirement tours have to end. They are endless, boring, contrived, and completely out of step with reality. It’s only November. I’m supposed to give a shit about Kobe Bryant retiring when he’s got five AWFUL months of urinating on teammates to go? Were the titles and MVP awards not enough formal adulation? Kobe Bryant built his entire career copying Michael Jordan’s moves and psychopathy, with NONE of the charm. (Even that stupid poem bites off (http://www.sbnation.com/nba/2015/11/29/9816288/kobe-bryant-retirement-open-letter-to-basketball-michael-jordan) Jordan’s retirement.) Why should I celebrate this nutjob’s willful blindness to reality, with his moron coach aiding and abetting it? If anything, Kobe Bryant deserves to finish out his career on some Siberian outpost, dragging his leprous body parts behind him just so he can deny a teammate an open look at the basket.
