There is no excuse for 4K unless you have a gaming pc capable of pushing that many pixels.

Highly recommend Crutchfield. http://www.crutchfield.com/

Super knowledgeable staff and they actually back up their warranties. My folks just ordered a 4k 55" Sammy from there, and they spent two hours with them combing over the details of compatibility, ideal setup, color settings, etc. Good prices too with free shipping.

Uh, for gaming I agree, but for TV? 4k blu ray is on the way very soon. Why not future proof? It's not like 4k TVs are exorbitantly expensive or anything.

Went to Wallyworld and got a 50" Samsung LCD 1080p for a bit over $500. Would've gotten 4K, but I don't think my cable streams content anywhere near that rez.

New TV has such a thin bezel that I probably could've bumped up to a 60". That old plasma has like a 3" bezel and even larger border on the bottom.

YouTube is about the best 4K source at this point, and that would get old in a week.

Walmart had a really cheap Hisense 4K model that had really great picture, but I don't know the brand.

You should take the 50" back then and upgrade.

Are 60 hz 4K TV's even available at a reasonable price yet? I know the cheaper models were 30 hz models very recently.

Their installers told me they were being prepped for the changes too, so it's on the horizon but no telling how long it's gonna take to be the standard vs some 5 channel novelty package..

Based on screen size and how far away I sit from the screen, I wouldn't benefit from 4K (my eyes wouldn't be able to notice the difference).

I read they just launched a satellite specifically for 4k broadcast... this is where satellite can rape cable, it's much easier for them to expand capacity...

Parents paid $1200 for 55" 4k with 120hz "motion rate", which is some kind of cross between 60 and 120hz (and no, it's not 90hz :lol).

I saw a Sony 40 inch 4K going for 500 at best buy the other day.

I was kind of surprise that A, it was going that low and B, that the blood sucking vampires at BB were actually selling it at that price.

That's a pretty typical price for a 40" broski

Take it back its going to feel like a downgrade because of the thin bezel and don't buy a tv at Wal-Mart, Wal-Mart tv's are shitty models made specially for Wal-Mart so they can have lower prices. Do you have microcenter or Frys in SA?

Best Buy actually sells a lot of their TVs just above cost. Their prices are pretty decent -- their service and knowledge is generally terrible.

Exact same model I got at Walmart is also sold at Best Buy. So far, I'm satisfied with it.

That's been my experience.

And I don't know how many places have 0% financing for 12 months for items $400+. Maybe it's standard, i don't know...but they offer it. Pretty convenient when I'd rather not drop a grand right off the bat on something.

Also, I recall a few years back it was a headache to return things, but the last few, I was in and out, no hurdles or hoops.

Agreed I would never buy a TV at Wal-Mart.. They'll change one number or letter on the model for the Wal-Mart version but the TV has different specs than the electronic store equivalent.

So, I took the back cover off the plasma to see if I could troubleshoot. Blew all the dust out (yuck). No obvious burnt components, blown fuses, etc. I plug it in and I hear buzzing. Next thing I know, a plume of white smoke comes out of the y-main board, so I unplug it quickly. Damn thing is definitely dead to me now. It probably could be fixed by someone willing to spend the time on it -- just not worth the effort to me.

Not on the one I bought. It's identical to same model sold elsewhere. I think I paid $1 less than Best Buy. I only went to Walmart because it was closer.

I just got a new TV myself but didn't go with the 4K version because I rarely even watch anything in 1080p to be honest. I don't feel like I've missed anything. The low prices of these giant TVs now make it hard to select that 4K version for 2K more.

I'll do Best Buy for some things but most larger ticket items I will order online. With free shipping for Prime members, I'll order damn near everything from Amazon these days and have only been screwed once in several years but got a refund. Fry's is good for PC components but everything else (especially multimedia and home theater) is antiquated a bit and the one in Austin looks like it's been ransacked. Dude never heard of wireless surround.
