50/40/90 guy at 37 age :wow ...Cuban did really screw the post-2011 Mavs era..Dirk/Carlisle would have been contending with better supporting cast..

I'm surprised Carlisle signed an extension tbh with all the spare parts they give him every year. They definitely should have done Dirk better than they did.

Seems like Rick feels he has built a sweat equity in Dallas with 2011 title and he want to keep that up despite the difficult rebuilding years looming ahead..They still have no clear post-Dirk future unlike the Spurs post-TD (Kawhi+LMA+ potential 3rd banana)..Cuban has been doing it on the fly and but has kept on striking out in the FA/trade market..Eventually, they will need to dip deep in the draft to get something resembling a young cornerstone, but it is clear the next couple of years are about phasing out Dirk as decently as possible....

Why would you blow up a team that could have still contended for 2-3 years possibly just for the CHANCE of land Howard and/or D Will. Cuban f himself over this.

Indeed. But to be fair Dwill should have went to Mavs his resurgence this year would have happened 4 years ago ...

Dirk's one of my all-time fav players, tbqh. A bit of a whiner on the court, but overall he's been a pleasure to watch and one the of the greatest players I've ever seen. His 2011 run was legendary. And watching Lebron and DWade standing in shock after losing in the Finals was awesome, tbh.

Cuban gave him an all-star supporting cast in the early 2000s when Nelly was in charge. Things chanced when Little Traitor took over the team & wanted blue collar role players. They reloaded after Carlisle took over but Cuban wanted to replace the aging Kidd/Tyson w/ D-Will/Howard. We all know how that ended:lol.

Dirk was soft in 2000s and those teams D was lacking..they were admittedly hosed by refs in 2006 Finals, but Avery/early Dirk combo was just not good enough from coaching/leadership POV..I think we would have still beaten them in 2007 if they hadn't choked vs Warriors because there is no way refs would do us in again like the 2006 series or Manu repeat the same costly boneheadeded play..

yeah...I think so. I think Carllisle also must like the challenge of what he's doing. But at some point, they have to retool. Glad that Dirk got his ring.

The Mavs Spurs and Mavs Heat series' from that year are the two worst officiated series I have ever seen along with the Kings Lakers in 2002.

That's why the Spurs shot more FT's than the Mavs?

Spurs had the best post player in the NBA who should have lived at the line and two lethal penetrators in Tony and Manu. Of course they should have been shooting a lot of free throws.

To start with, TD should have had two more free throws at the end of regulation in game 7 when he was clearly hacked. Dallas got what they deserved in the finals. I feel no sympathy whatsoever because Spurs got the same treatment in their series against Dallas. Most of the bad officiating was in the 4th quarter of those games. That's why the end of the series stats don't look as bad and blatant as they were. The officiating in the 4th quarters of both games 3 and 4 in Dallas was horrendous. Spurs should have won both of those games. You never should have been there to begin with. Spurs were the best team that year. I'll repeat it again, Dallas got what they deserved in the finals.

Gm 3-Dirk stepped on Tim's feet & Tim got called for a foul while Dirk got 2 FTs (the Spurs lost by 1 point)
Gm 4-The refs also gave Finley a tech & the league rescinded it (the Spurs lost in OT)

Basically, the Mavs would have lost Gm 3 & 4 if it wasn't for the 3 FTs they got gifted: lose by 1 in Gm 3 / no OT in Gm 4.

Howard will never win anything in the NBA because he's simply a lazy bum who just doesn't give a damn. Any team that considers having him on their roster should seriously think twice.

His smirk in 2006 when he got to the free throw line. You literally could not breath on Dirk that year, it was disgusting.
