been wanting to drop cable (I have Uverse 450), it's getting very pricey. I mostly watch streaming anyway... I have netflix and amazon prime.

The only thing holding me back is spurs games.

I'm not sure how to watch, or what I need to stream fox sports sw spurs games on my TV. I don't want delayed streaming from FSSW, and if I get NBA TV, won't spurs be blocked since I live in S.A. ?

and I don't want to watch games on my computer.

the NBA League Pass is bs with the regional shit, it's why I never renewed.

Harlem is always talking about a site called BallSack or BallStreams, something like that. that might be able to work on multiple devices like League Pass, it's something I'm considering.

You can buy a single team NBA league pass for $120. I AirPlay Kings games from my phone to my appletv to my tv.

ETA: not sure about blackout rules since you are local

Couldn't you pay someone out of the region to buy it and you use the login info?

never thought of that. i suppose there are ways to mask the IP, use a proxy or some shit to make it from another region. you can watch the games afterwards just not live if you're in the blackout area.

Thanks. I use the frontrow site, but I like to catch games later sometimes so that's where BallStream or League Pass are worth it imo.

I think ballstreams is still closed to new users because their billing systems are hosed according to my roommate. He used it last year

A la carte channels seem to be just around the corner. In the meantime you could cut back to U200 or see what bundles TWC has with standard cable. Can check to see if Grande is in your area as well. The one good thing about TWC is you can just drop the video when the season is over. They are testing a sling-like service in NY that uses Rokus and requires no regular cable boxes at all.

A la carte Fox Sports SW and DirecTV can GTFO... Need true a la carte channels, not this stupid sign in through your provider crap.

What services do you currently have and about how much do you pay? I dropped a bunch of shit recently and seem to have more now than before, even though I lost HBO and Showtime. I will have to catch up on GoT and some other shit I was watching one day. I went from close to 300 a month to about 150.00. I have the highest speed non-business connection available because I prefer to spend my money on what I use the most. I can do damn near anything online that I can do with cable television anyhow. The Spurs games are about the only thing I will watch on TWC, but now and again I catch some On Demand programming.

I don't know that watching a few games a month is worth the extra money, but you cannot do a lot of customizing due to packaging of the products. But yeah, Smart TV makes movie watching on Cable (or even DVD) a thing of the past. Some people complain that the resolution isn't as good but for me it's great, and I don't get any connection issues. I've tried the streaming from this or that "free" site and it's not worth the bullshit tbh.

That's about what I'm paying now and I'm considering cutting cable alltogether and then put some of that extra money on more speed.

Currently I'm getting 50mb down and 26 up. Not bad but, I download a shit ton of tv shows and movies so I could do with more faster speeds.

I'm not as worried about missing a game of any kind live because that's easily found on the net these days.

I pay $70 for my cable through Grande in Austin, it's very fast. Not that I can remember.

These illegal boxes came with a chip that allowed for viewing all the channels from the cable company. You would buy it from the shady guy for say 150 and replace it with the one the company gives you. Worked great until they started zapping the boxes with what they call "electronic bullets."

Ah. I'm dating myself then. In the 80's, for cable, you got this box with 13 buttons and a selector switch for three levels. So 36 channels. You'd get a box based on your subscription. But all you had to do was open the box and manually tune the channels with a screwdriver. Teenagers dream.

I'm running 300Mbps down and whatever dreaming lie they advertise for upload. That's damn near what you pay now, but it's deductible for me since I work from home. Plus I have 4 set top boxes (lol for 2 people, can't be bothered to move the box to the other room or get a transceiver). So I'm a bit media heavy here, it's fine.

Yeah I have some picked out already. I don't care for the higher end ones for this application. Logitech makes a light pair (H800) that you can get for around 40 dollars. It's got bluetooth and wireless as well as direct connection. Also has a mic. It doesn't drown out ambient sound but I won't have any. It doesn't cup the ear so your ears don't sweat.

That doesn't compare to the satisfaction you get when you when your purchase your own pair and get to open the box. In fact, when I'm done listening, I store mine in the original box. Current uverse bill was going up to around $240 or more for internet/U400 or whatever I have. I don't watch much TV except for spurs games, and several on demand premium shows...

The local spurs games are what was holding me back from cutting cable, but will check out some of the ideas mentioned, thanks!

There are sites out there that sell legit nbaLP, nfl ticket, HBOgo, Netflix, and Comcast xfinity accounts for like $10 Netflix are like $1.50 Comcast xfinity are like a full cable package just streaming on your computer or tablet. Easiest thing to do would be get a vpn $5 bucks a month to switch your ip outside of San Antonio so you can watch spurs games on NBALP, buy a Comcast xfinity account for the rest of your cable channels.

We dropped cable 4 months ago and have rarely missed it. HD antenna was $40 and works great, we even got a TiVo that is compatible with it so we can DVR broadcast shows/sports.

Netflix+Prime+HuluPlus+HBONow+NBA-LP all come in well below what we were paying for Cable before.

I use my parents' password for WatchESPN, but I've been using that less and less. For shows that are current that I can't get on one of the streaming channels (ex: Walking Dead, Fargo), we just subscribe on Amazon. On the rare occasion there's something in sports I want to watch that I can't pick up (ex: Spurs on TNT), I just go to a bar. Compared to paying for cable, a bar tab once or twice a month doesn't really make a huge dent.

Never getting rid of cable. My ex and several of my friends have cut cable and I've noticed how much freaking time they waste skipping from app to app looking for something to watch. I have no patience for it. I can't live without being able to scroll a guide and see whats on in real time. I just don't watch enough tv to invest all that effort into just the search. Add the dvr and I've got all my tv needs covered.

for now, I am cutting uverse TV tomorrow. will keep uverse internet service. today I bought a 50 mile HD antenna for local stations, and a Roku2 for all the streaming apps.

I'm already a member of netflix and amazon prime. Today I added Showtime Anytime to my Prime account for $8.99 a month. Will add Sling TV streaming for many of the "basic cable" live channels, including TNT and ESPN ($20 a month). Will add HBO streaming before GoT resumes.

So I will get any spurs games on local KENS channel 5, and national games on TNT and ESPN. Also will get whatever few games are on local Fox channel KMYS.

for FSSW spurs games, I will just have to live stream on my computer if I want to watch them.

Is FSSW, TNT, ESPN on the basic cable or expanded basic packages in SA?

I checked previously, and U200 was the bottom tier that included FSSW. Still expensive.

Is AT&T the only ISP you have? They're fucking terrible, if you can switch to ANYONE you should cut that too.
I don't disagree. The other night I was trying to watch a few youtube videos, and every one stopped and buffered every few seconds.

For DirecTV Fox Sports SW is available on the middle of the 5 tiers

On TWC all the Spurs games are on the Standard tier package.

TWC ain't too hot either. I'm supposed to have up to 50mb down and there huge fluctuations in speed/performance, especially during peek hours. I live far enough north to get GVTC, so I might try that out eventually. At least that's fiber.

Get on their ass if you are having problems. Maybe they need to rewire your shit or something. TWC is about 10-15 more per month than Grande's Internet, but mine is always 4 mbps faster than advertised, no matter time of day. Send a PM to illusioNtEk, he'll get your complaint handled promptly.

been wanting to drop cable (I have Uverse 450), it's getting very pricey.

I've been considering giving up on cable, but not sure if I want to mess with shit online to find access to shows.

What will you use for your internet service?

If your cables are old or damaged it can really affect performance -- or the signal for your whole house might just be out of operating range for some reason. A lot of modems allow you to see signal levels when you log into them so you can check for yourself. TWC has its own customer forum where people go as in-depth on this crap as anyone could stand. DSL Reports has one as well.

I installed Kodi last night to see if it could be a potential replacement for TV.. Pretty much all the TV and movie streams I found on Fusion and Repo are shitty quality even though the ones I'm clicking are labeled as 1080p..

Welcome to Web TV, cord-cutters. Don't forget your credit card
Combine the price of connectivity with subscription fees for online video services, and the total tab quickly vaults over the average cost of pay-TV.

Breaking down prices of online options shows that those reviled cable and satellite companies still tend to provide more bang for each buck.

Weird. The word "antenna" doesn't show up once and that's the cheapest way to get braodcast channels.

Try the add-ons called Genesis http://tvaddons.ag/addons/show/plugin.video.genesis/

And SALTS http://addons.tvaddons.ag/show/plugin.video.salts/

You're right though they are scaled down HD for streaming, if you want full HDTV/bluray rips try 2ddl.net with adblock on

Yeah Genesis comes as part of the package on Fusion.. Thats where I was trying to find a good clear HD stream, and couldn't even though it said 1080p..

Tbh, I'll just stick to streaming from YIFY.tv from my laptop to the TV, their shit is always good quality streams.

There is a yify addon for kodi too. Kodi is really nice once you get used to it. I use it for everything, there is a feature that will download boxcovers for all your tv shows and movies that will make your pc into a movie jukebox and includes a link to the trailer, cast, and rating on imdb.com I haven't found a better movie player.

DL kodi for pc here http://kodi.tv/

Stand alone kodi is just a basic media player but there are many 3rd party apps for it called addons you can use to watch movie bootlegs on like genesis and salts links above

Yeah I like the app itself, an open source media center is a great idea.. I just didn't like the video quality on the streams.. There was a bunch of other shit on there I did like though, like podcasts and shit.

*Update - found plenty of quality streams using Kodi after all.

In my searching for more information regarding Kodi, I also discovered Plex, and installed that on my PC as well. This is a awesome program if you have tons of movies, pics, music etc. on your PC.. It will let you stream from your server PC to anything with the Plex app installed. It also has channel add-ons like Kodi for TV and movies, but I haven't been able to get them to work.. Plex works with Roku too which is a plus for me.

There's an app called plex you could download on the PS3 and 4. Wonder if you can connect the two so you can stream shit from your PC dirrectly to the app in the console. That would be killer.

I tried it. That is a lot of hoops to get the shit to work which I didn't get it to in the end.

Download the app on PS3...download the app for PC...turn on file sharing so it recoginzes it on the PS3 etc. I also noticed the computer got mighty slow opening shit.

PS3 Media Server works just fine so I'll continue using that.

Icefilms.. Tbh the process sucks tho.. I have to click 38 streams to get one that actually plays.

I would say this is not a viable solution as a cable or even Netflix replacement.
