Solid movie.

Tom Cruise played the part perfectly. You could tell he knew all about the character and dug down deep to channel a tough guy loner type. I can't think of anyone who could have played the part of Reacher better than he did.

He was so fantastic, I completely forgot about his crazy scientology shit.

Tom Cruise was Jack Reacher. Jack Reacher was Tom Cruise. Oscar worthy, imo.

7/10

I doubt I'll watch it. Cruise is horribly miscast. Reacher was a big man. 6'3" if he's a day over 30. Yep...twisted railroad steal.
Thanks for the review but...PASS.

This from the introduction to the first Jack Reacher novel...KILLING FLOOR.

So, he's an ex-military officer, he's American, he's alienated, he struggles to participate effectively in civilian society, and he has a plain name. And he's huge. He's six feet five inches tall, and around two hundred and fifty pounds, all of it muscle.

Lee Child

The fact this is a big bad ass guy is a major factor in all the books, just like strength is in anything about Hercules. And he loved them blues. On page 23 of KILLING FLOOR...

Reacher says....

"I'd thought I'd come and look for Blind Blake"

Blake was a legit blues legend in Georgia where Reacher is at. What happened to him is a huge mystery in the blues world.

Child does come up with the best theory I've read later on in the book about what happened to Blind Blake.

The first Zorro story was written by Johnston McCulley in 1919, it was...The Curse of Capistrano, and it appearded in a pulp fiction magazine All Story Weekly. The first movie about Zorro came out in 1920. The first book in 1924...The Mark of Zorro....which I hold in my hand, a copy obviously. Now imagine some short fat clumsy dude trying to play the master swordsman the acrobatic..ZORRO.

it's just because Cruise is that good

the fact that Reacher is 6'3" and can always beat up 3-5 other guys who have guns is super boring.
the books are OK and forgettable, I was literally half way through one of them before remembering I had already read it, but Cruise made Jack Reacher memorable and I hope they do more Reacher movies.

same thing with Edge of Tomorrow which really made no sense, that movie was awesome because Cruise made it awesome.

still love that song too

sZLTMC-BMCI

he also made those shit movies Ghost Protocol and Rogue Nation watchable

Hey avante do you listen to the grass roots?

Sure, I have all that stuff. What's your fav tune they do?

I didn't get into them old blues until about 30 yeas ago, I got tired of reading about how this guy and that was influenssed by the music of all these old guys I'd never heard of, so I found out who they were, fell in love with the music.

That was 12 big books and around 6000 blues CD's ago.

James Lee Burke writes about a Louisiana detective named Dave Robicheaux, these are as good as it gets when it comes to fictional character with a following. And there was a movie with Tommy Lee Jones playing Robicheaux, which was perfect. While he can handle himself it's his side kick Clete Purcell who is the maniac bad ass, far worst off than any of the bad guys in the books.

Highly recommend these books. And like Reacher, Robicheaux knows them blues, dead serious.

James Pattersons Alex Cross stories are pretty good also, yep, been a couple movies there.

I'll say it again, why Moorcocks Elric stories haven't seen the big screen...? That brooding albino prince of Melniborne with his vampiric runesword Stormbringer, who must have blood to reenergize Elric .......incredible stuff, the stories are amazing.

And right now would be a perfect time to bring Robert E. Howards*** EL BORAK to the silver screen. He is a wandering mercenary in the Middle East fighting for whoever pays him the most, and these stories were written back in the 30's.

*** author of Conan, King Kull, Solomon Kane, all of which have been made into movies.

Howard a Texan committed suicide at 30.

Jack Reacher 6-4, Tom Cruise 5-4

I bet 90% of the people who saw the movie had no idea who Jack Reacher was. So to them Cruise is doing a fine job being the character he played in this particular movie. But, those of us familiar with the books and know who Reacher really is know how wrong it was to have Cruise in that part, he wasn't beleivable at all if yas know who he was suppose to be.

Reacher is 6-5.

Make another movie using James Patterson's Alex Cross with Cruise as Cross. Cross is a black guy. This really is no different.

You're right, my bad. The fact Reacher is 6-5 250 pounds of muscle and Cruise isn't close to that is a total non factor. It means nothing. All us Reacher fans just need to ignore that. And when Cruise plays the part of Alex Cross, the hell with the fact Cross is a black man, does it matter, hell no!

You're right as usual.

Obviously John Wayne was perfect as Ghanghis Khan in The Conquerer.

The movie starts with a sniper looking through a scope, it ends with Robert Duvall helping out Reacher/Cruise kick ass on the bad guys.

The fight scene outside the bar with the 4 or was it five punks is pretty good. As his the big car chase scene.

Every fan of Jack Reacher was looking forward to te movie.

Then there;s this about Reacher.

Reacher has a love for music, especially blues (http://www.spurstalk.com/wiki/Blues).[14] (http://www.spurstalk.com/forums/#cite_note-Child_1997_p._522-14) It was this affinity for the blues that inspired Reacher to get off the bus at the start of Killing Floor (http://www.spurstalk.com/wiki/Killing_Floor_(novel)) and catapulted him into the resulting story.[citation needed (http://www.spurstalk.com/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed)] The same novel reveals that he has a music collection in his head, which he listens to.[citation needed (http://www.spurstalk.com/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed)] Reacher visited a Blues club on Bleecker Street (http://www.spurstalk.com/wiki/Bleecker_Street) immediately before the beginning of Gone Tomorrow.[citation needed (http://www.spurstalk.com/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed)]

Avante owns all but one of the books, the latest one and has seen the movie three times.

Remember the scene where the thug knocks the girl out and kills her with one blow?

How about the scene where Reacher is in the bath tub fighting the two bad guys?

So there sits Reacher in that girls boyfriends car when he sees the dead girl and the black cop (who turns out to be a bad guy) sees him. and the chse is on.

Remember when it was ....who is this Jack Reacher, how do we find him.....then he walks in?

How about the scene where Reacher is out at the rifle range with Duvall?

Moving on.

J.T.Edson is a westerns writer he writes about Dusty Fog, a short (5-6) x cival war hero who knows karate andf is the fastest gun alive. His side kicks are Mark Counter a huge powerful cat who has never lost a fight and the Ysabel Kid, a half Apache who is a master with a knife and the best tracker alive. Hollywood could do something with this saga, there are something like 50 books, I have bout 35 of them, great reads if ya like westerns.

Of course the greatest saga when it comes to westens is Louis L'Amour's...The Sacketts.

I don't haven anything against Tom Cruise, it's just the fact that one of the main things emphasized about Reacher, in all the books is his size. So they pick the shortest male action star in Hollywood to play him.

5-7 is pretty much a woman's height...

Finally someone who gets it. You are never allowed to not know Reacher is a big guy, it's all over the books.

It's...

at my size
he was almost as tall as me
guys my size

and on and on. So those of us who know the stories the character...........Tom Cruise? And Reacher is in his mid 30's, Cruise is 52?

In one of the books the bad guy is called Little Joey, he's 6-11 around 380 pounds. Obviously ya know it's going to come down to Reacher vs Little Joey. Sure enought ....

Reacher has enought size and power himself to be able to hang. Something the midget Cruise could never sell. Obviously Reacher finally takes the giant down, alot having to do with his size and strength........Tom Cruise????
