A New York Times poll released on Thursday found that a majority of Americans oppose a ban on “assault weapons” in the wake of a New York Times front page editorial championing the idea.
The poll (http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2015/12/10/us/politics/times-cbs-news-poll.html), conducted among 1,275 adults between Dec. 4 and 8, found 50 percent of Americans now oppose a nationwide ban on “assault weapons” while 44 percent favor such a ban. The results represent the first time since the question began being asked in 1995 that more people oppose a ban than support it. Such a ban would outlaw the AR-15, the most popular rifle in the country, as well as other stylistically similar semi-automatic rifles.
A ban on such rifles, and their confiscation, was advocated for in a Dec. 4 editorial by the New York Times editorial board. “Certain kinds of weapons, like the slightly modified combat rifles used in California, and certain kinds of ammunition, must be outlawed for civilian ownership,” the editorial said (http://www.nytimes.com/2015/12/05/opinion/end-the-gun-epidemic-in-america.html). “It is possible to define those guns in a clear and effective way and, yes, it would require Americans who own those kinds of weapons to give them up for the good of their fellow citizens.”

It's not the AR-15 or other assault weapons that are bad it's the magazine capacity. I understand that feral hog invasions are worse than they've ever been and nothing beats an AR or similarly styled weapons for controlling that. But, I think magazine capacity maximum should be set at 10 rounds. I think that's a fair compromise.

Policiy dictates that certain things are illegall to import such as a rifle with a pistol grip,large capacity magazines,, and others. At the factory is Russia they stick extra money into castrating the gun down and for.me to legally have the same features that I can get on an AR15 at Wal-Mart, I have to buy triggers and other parts that are made in the USA and throw away perfectly good factory parts. I have to do that to 9 parts to make it legal. Now the same guns and illegal to import but I can still buy the same caliber in an AR.
