Spurs guard Manu Ginobili has been very tight-lipped recently about his future with the Argentinian National Team. Last week, when asked about the possibility of playing in Rio next year, Ginobili said he didn’t even want to think about it for now.

National Team coach Sergio Hernandez is optimistic about the chances of Ginobili playing at the Olympic Games for the fourth time with Argentina, though.

“To me, he’s going to play in Rio,” Hernandez said in an interview with TyC Sports. “I know he’s going to get angry when he watches this, but he knows how I am.”

Would be a fitting farewell for an all-time great.

It would be even more fitting if he had a fifth ring while playing his farewell tour.

If Kobe makes it over Kawhi, I will be rooting hard for Argentina to win it all.

This. I really believe, though, that whole meme is just JC attempting to NOT backtrack oh his musings this summer, AND not insult Kobe.

Even for us Americans, Spurs Nation > USA.

Kawhi and George are locks. Guys like Klay / Larden are the ones who could be left home if Kobe cries his way onto the team. Both Kawhi and George can provide the outside shooting needed in the international game.

If there were someone deserving of a lifetime inclusion award, it would be Duncan. Never got the gold because he was stuck with that hero ball team of Starbury et al. He doesn't care though.

If this is to be Manu's last year as a Spur, I would love to see him go out in style. One for the thumb, plus a gold medal. Sweetest would be if Kobe makes the team as a sentimental choice, plays significant minutes, gets victimized by Manu in the final game, and everyone can say the reason the USA didn't win it was because Kawhi wasn't on the team.

I'm fine with Manu playing his last Olympic run.

In fact, I'll be so happy if he decides to play, he deserves a big stage for his retirement from international basketball.

kinda of feel like... you know, fuck that guy for saying this. Especially if Manu was happy to have responsibilities to the NT locked away for good.

You may be right. I'm not sure, can a French fan confirm this?

France hasn't qualified yet. They'll have to earn a spot during the pre-Olympic tournament.

Not qualified indeed. We need to play an Olympic Qualifying tournament next year.

He should. I know his NT is the most important to him and would be the best way to end his career.

this season seems like our best shot at ringing maybe for a final time :cry With how weakened the West and the fact that our Big3 are rested from a long off-season, which won't be the case heading into 2016-2017, this is the moment to do it, tbh.. I would say Manu 80% rides into the sunset after 6 with Olympics being his farewell tournament to the world of basketball..

Manu is unpredictable at this stage.

He said last summer he had already retired from international competition (99% likely).

However, Argentina will obviously ask him again and how he feels at that time is what he'll do.

If Spurs play deep into June (hopefully), you have to wonder about his health at that point. Almost 39 and playing into June, I think he will need rest.

Also, we have to keep in mind his role with the NT is not the same as it is with the Spurs where he has a lot of help and great teammates to share the burden with.

As a point of reference, Tony looked beyond finished in international competition and has had a renaissance with the Spurs. Same for Dirk Nowitzki to a degree.

To say the truth a lot will have to do on how the team fares this year.

If we win the championship i think he will play in rio and retire.

If we are close, and he thinks we can win it next year maybe he stays with us and doesnt go to rio.

If we suck he´ll go to rio for sure and maybe retire after it.

Anyway i hve no problem in any case if manu wants to go to rio AND play another year here. He has already given us all you could expect from him and more, Spurs chances should not hang anymore on Ginobili´s decisions. If they do, then we have a problem or our so called starts are not so shining.

Told of the story after the Spurs’ 114-95 win over the Wizards at the AT&T Center, Ginobili said, “Trust me, you would have known if I had would have made the decision. If (Hernandez) is confident, good for him. I haven’t said anything yet. It’s not the moment. I am not going to think about it.”
