We enjoy the collection of pagan traditions appropriated by Christians and repackaged as a Christian holiday tbh. I also get free shit without having to waste any time in a faggy church so it's doubly good. And I get 3 days off from work this month for it so not really imo

Celebrating the birth of Christ is a pagan tradition?
There is controversy concerning the date of December 25 as the birthday of Jesus (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chronology_of_Jesus#Date_of_birth). Many customs from these holidays, particularly from the pagan Scandinavian (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norse_paganism) and Germanic (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Germanic_people) celebration of Yule (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yule) in northern Europe, are transparently present in later Christmas customs, suggesting that the date was appropriated directly from pagan customs and given a Christian veneer rather than being the true birthday of Jesus.
The pagan Scandinavian (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norse_paganism) and Germanic people (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Germanic_people) of northern Europe celebrated a twelve-day "midwinter" (winter solstice (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winter_solstice)) holiday called Yule (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yule) (also called Jul, Julblot, jólablót, midvinterblot (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Midvinterblot), julofferfest) beginning on December 25. Many modern Christmas traditions, such as the Christmas tree, the Christmas wreath (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christmas_wreath), the Yule log (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yule_log), and others, are direct descendants of Yule customs. Scandinavians still call Yule "Jul". In English, the word "Yule" is often used in combination with the season "yuletide" [17] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christmas_controversy#cite_note-18) a usage first recorded in 900. It is believed that the celebration of this day was a worship of these peculiar days, interpreted as the reawakening of nature. The Yule (Jul) particular God was Jólner, which is one of Odin's (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Odin) many names.
The concept of Yule (Jul) occurs in a tribute poem to Harold Hårfager (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harald_I_of_Norway) from about AD 900, where someone said "drinking Jul". Julblot is the most solemn sacrifice feast. At the julblotet, sacrifices were given to the gods to earn blessing on the forthcoming germinating crops. Julblotet was eventually integrated into the Christian Christmas. As a remainder from this Viking (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viking) era, the Midsummer (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Midsummer) is still important in Scandinavia, and hence vividly celebrated.
Sol Invictus (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sol_Invictus) ("The Unconquered Sun") was originally a Syrian god who was later adopted as the chief god of the Roman Empire (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roman_Empire) under Emperor Aurelian (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aurelian). His holiday is traditionally celebrated on December 25, as are several gods associated with the winter solstice in many pagan traditions

Christianity was corrupted by Pagan rituals during the reign of Constantine, where he combined Christian doctrine with that of Paganism. Christmas has absolutely nothing to do with Christianity or the birth of Jesus Christ. It was a Dutch tradition that was passed over sometime in the 1600's. It revolves around a mythical being known as Sinder Klass now know as Santa Claus. In fact, scholars believe Jesus to have been born sometime in Spring, possibly early Summer. We, as Christians have allowed this nonsense to infiltrate the Church and it is our responsibility to educate ourselves now more than ever.
FACT: We are not told or commanded by the Word of God, or the Lord Jesus himself to celebrate his birth.
FACT: Jesus' birth was not celebrated by the disciples of the early church. The first celebrations of the birth of Jesus did not occur until the 4th century.
FACT: Jesus' birth was established by the Roman emperor Constantine when he declared Christianity the state religion. He appeased the heathens, and declared December 25th to be the birthdate of the Son of God in order to coincide with the birth of the sun god worshiped by the Pagans.
FACT: The Word of God warns us about observing "special days" or times of the year. "Ye observe days, and months, and times, and years. I am afraid of you, lest I bestowed upon you labour in vain." (Galatians 4:10-11) "And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." (John 8:32)

So today nobody is celebrating the birth of Christ?
I know of one church that is. They couldn't care less about all that. And all these Christmas cards we are getting don't either.
As we know Frankenstein was the scientist not the monster, but what do we see? Nobody cares about how Christmas came about, today it's celebrated as the birth of Christ.

I, like most people, began celebrating Christmas before I even understood the concept of Christianity or even knew what the religious significance of the day is. So becoming atheist didn't change anything for me.
Nothing says America or capitalism more than exploiting Jesus' birthday for commercial use anyway.

Question: "What is the true meaning of Christmas?"
Answer: The true meaning of Christmas is love. John 3:16-17 says, "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him." The true meaning of Christmas is the celebration of this incredible act of love.
The real Christmas story is the story of God's becoming a human being in the Person of Jesus Christ. Why did God do such a thing? Because He loves us! Why was Christmas necessary? Because we needed a Savior! Why does God love us so much? Because He is love itself (1 John 4:8). Why do we celebrate Christmas each year? Out of gratitude for what God did for us, we remember His birth by giving each other gifts, worshipping Him, and being especially conscious of the poor and less fortunate.
The true meaning of Christmas is love. God loved His own and provided a way—the only Way—for us to spend eternity with Him. He gave His only Son to take our punishment for our sins. He paid the price in full, and we are free from condemnation when we accept that free gift of love. "But God demonstrated His own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8).
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Now some of you might think you are celebrating Christmas but you're not unless you are celebrating the birth of Christ. I go with it because I realize I don't have all the answers, nobody does.
This...Christmas has nothing to do with anything but giving gifts, enjoying family, a day off........are ignorant.
To think the 4th of July is just about fire works would be the same ignorance.
There is no controversy. The Bishop of Rome needed a way to convert the Visigoths and Franks that they had 'given' Gaul and Germania to settle. They all had a tradition involving Kringle and Krampus on the summer solstice.
The only 'controversy' is exactly how it happened because the Early church was really big on revisionist history and book burnings. That they set up a special mass on the solstice for proselytization is obvious.
