Already surpassed Bruce in steals w/ the Spurs in just 5 seasons. Pretty amazing. D-Rob has the franchise record. He's on pace to be top 5 in just 5 more years.

He's on pace to finish with 595.5 steals this year. That puts him on pace for 1,191 after another 5 seasons, good enough for 3rd place. Hopefully he's around for 15 years in which case he would shatter the franchise record, even though those #'s will inevitably dip with age.

None of this really matters, just food for thought.

Bowen was undefeated in the finals and SHUT DOWN Lebron in the 07 finals.

Kawhi is 1-1 and got outplayed by Lebron having 37 points drop on his head in the 2013 NBA finals.

only stats that should matter.

Alvin Robertson's 1128 steals with the Spurs came in just five seasons. His career total for 10 years is 2112. Truly remarkable.

That's ridiculous. Has to be the most ever in a 5 year span, right? Gotta be.

You can't really compare numbers from the past because of defensive rules changes. You were allowed to be much more physical in the past.

Bruce was never really known for his steals. Just like Tiago Splitter can play good man-to-man defense without blocking, tbh. Steals are not the best measure of a defensive player. Although I'm not saying Kawhi is worse or better, we shouldn't look at it from a 'steals' point of view.

Better check Kenon's totals. Whether you give his totals for SAA+SAS or just SAS he was over 500 for first four years. Kenon was an excellent ballhawk and extremely quick taking the ball downcourt after the steal.

Bowen wasn't really a steals guy. He was just pesky and stuck to guys like glue. He wasn't a guy who was going to play the passing lanes and gamble for steals. Different kind of defenders.

That's just insane.

Being that efficient on offense plus being the best defensive player in the league is even more insane.

If the season ended today, where would Kawhi rank in MVP voting? To me he and LeBron are 2-3 behind Curry.

Alvin Robertson is the best perimeter defender of the hand-check era.

Post hand-check era: Chris Paul had a total 948 steals during his top 5 seasons for total steals & holds the record for most consecutive games w/ a steal.

Bonus:
-Mookie Blaylock had a total of 1042 steals during a span of 5 consecutive seasons.
-Nate McMillan averaged 5.8 steal per 100 possessions :wow in 93-94 when he led the league in total steals (Alvin Robertsons never averaged more than 5 per 100)

Well keep in mind Kawhi hasn't played a full season (one of them being the lockout year) and he has also improved his steal rate. So say 2 spg for 70 games a year = 140 over 5 years that's 700 steals. That puts him at around 1300 in 10 seasons. So it's entirely possible that he passes Drob before he reaches 30 yrs old, if he just stays healthy.

Add the two guys from OKC and you have the top 5. I can't see any reasonable case for Kawhi to be any lower.
