A truly phenomenal display of team BBIQ and skill. West had already touched the ball twice on the play when Manu hit him to finish the give and go. And some people think dunks are what "highlights" should be about.

I still think it's a disservice to refer to Manu as merely a bench player. When he's gone forever from that TEAM, it will never be the same again is more like it.

Damn.

West has got to gather accolades.
What a ball fake, pass, break to the basket, catch the heater, put the ball in while being fouled.
4 years with Manu and a good back... What could have been for West.

Great find OP

No

Kyle should have shot that.

No! That's not his game. He's not Bruce, or Danny, or Leonard, or even Simmons. He's actually a very poor corner 3 shooter, his game is passing and scoring from the high post when the other team puts a 6'1" or shorter guy on him.

DAF86
12-24-2015, 12:43 AM
No

You are not pulling that 1, 2 under the basket against a good team. Kyle was wide ass open from one of the most efficient spots on the court, he has to shoot that.

That's like saying 40 year old Peyton Manning should have "run the damn ball" when given 20 yards of real estate to run instead of forcing the pass downfield.

Except those things aren't really comparable. If Kyle really wants to see minutes as a Spur wing when things really matter, he will have to improve his 3pt shooting. And passing up those wide open looks won't help him in that regard. He needs to work on that shot and shoot it confidently when he has the opportunity.

Simmons has shown he can whip those passes like Manu, he just doesn't have as long a leash as Manu. Kyle on the other hand is like Bobo, gives up layups for an assist.:lol

Kyle corner 3s tend to barely hit the rim, if at all... I remember one road loss early in the season when he airballed 2 straight corner threes in the second half

I seriously doubt he'll ever be a good three point shooter or jumpshooter in general. He tends to shoot everything with 1 hand so anything that isn't on the run and/or close to the basket is going to be way off.

Shaun Livingston almost never shoots 3s & he's doing just fine as a backup guard on a championship team.

10000000000% Kyle needed to shoot that.. I looked straight over to the bench as soon as he made that pass, expecting pop to yank him on the next play. He's lucky west bailed him out.

Agreed. :tu

Especially since the Spurs groom him to be a perimeter player, he need & HAS to take those WIDE OPEN, in rhythm catch & shoot perimeter shots, the corner threes that is known as the most efficient shot after an open dunk.

He had two opportunities at a corner 3. The first one he could have taken it if he was quick enough. The second one though, he was absolutely wide open. West of course was wide open too, but a corner 3 is better than a mid-range jumper.

What is crazy about this play though is that Bobo didn't even touch the ball.

LOL so dumb. That's kind of the thing though isn't it? You don't play every team the same. Of course they don't do that to a better team. Why take advantage of situations though? If KA didn't feel comfortable taking that three then hell no I don't want him shooting.

Also, against a better team, maybe KA doesn't even have that opportunity. I say keep swinging it and wear out their defense.

As soon as I saw that play live I knew it would get this treatment. I agree with those saying that Anderson should have shot that 3.

The "Beautiful Game" narrative has actually made the Spurs' current ball movement somewhat overrated. It's still very good but not what we saw in 2014.

You didn't get the point son. Yeah, the play was nice but it was also lucky. 90% of the time you won't be able to pull a play like that. That's why you have to shot that first great look you got.

And about Kyle's shooting from the corners, according to this: http://stats.nba.com/player/#!/203937/stats/shooting/ (you have to scroll down a bit), he is 2-6 from the left corner and 2-3 from the right corner. A very small sample, but 44% is respectable.

This particular play was highlighted in the NBA recap of the game video and the announcer for it was over-the-top in describing how great the Spurs' ball movement was, and actually said on the tape that "this is so much better than any dunk".

The guy was really funny!!

And then right after that he showed Kawhi going in for that monster dunk!

Great stuff.

Manu could have easily made the layup instead of passing to the corner. Lots of shots passed up.

And if you were playing defense, those 8 passes for a uncontested layup had to be demoralizing as hell. Not to mention wearing their young asses out.

He's taken a grand total of 15 corner 3s in the NBA and he's made 7 of them. That's 47%.

Addition by subtraction? This wouldn't have happened with CoJo in the lineup.

Cojo had many positives, true dedication to defense and hustle being his best attribute, but he's a ball dominant guard and not terribly gifted passing (although he has improved) that is why he was always a weird fit with Manu. He's doing well in Toronto bc he supplies the defense and grit they need and they play an Iso heavy system where Cojo' s drives to the basket are a plus. POP wanted to keep Cojo though.
