View Full Version : Patty Mills Home/Away performance discrepancy is a concern..

I think ElNono (http://www.spurstalk.com/forums/member.php?u=8054) pointed out this pattern from an eye test early in the season, and the home/away splits stats are finally bearing it out..

Green struggles have overshadowed too many desultory outings by Patty on the road; it is really hard to win (close) road games when your two primary long range gunners are shooting this bad/uneven..

Dude was a monster on the road for the past couple seasons...and especially during the championship season.

Alarming tbh.

He is one of the worst defenders in the league. It also sucks that the Spurs after all this years don't have a point guard that can organize the offense. Relying on Manu is getting stupid cause well he's old.

Spurs have also Diaw and maybe even Anderson who can organize the offense.

Manu is really good at orchestrating, what I don't like though is when he tries to play hero ball.

yep..he single-handedly won us a couple games on the road in 2014 during that injury bug stretch..he's been missing too many momentum-changing 3s this year which ended up in a typical hump game losses.. ..

He was one of our best players on the road against the Clips last playoffs, but this season he's just been a bit tentative on the road. The good news is that it shouldn't be any physical problem, probably just mental...

No, Anderson can't run the offense.

Should've played Simmons, dude is fearless & isn't looking back at the bench like he was early in the season since Pop has let him off the leash b/c of Danny's performance. Simmons on Lawson & Patty on Terry should have been the defensive match-up. Gambling Manu on erratic Brewer wouldn't have hurt since Brewer isn't going to make you pay for leaving him open unless he's hot. If anything Manu would have draw a couple of charges on him.

I've noticed this too and it's all the more reason why they need another high percentage, high volume three-point shooter, on the wing.

Mills hasn't been the same since his shoulder injury and though I'm still confident Green will at least progress somewhat to the mean, at this point it's fair to question if this is more than just a slump.

It won't happen, but in the interim, from now on when they play .500 or better teams on the road, both Butler and Bonner need to be active and at least one needs to play. I'm sick and tired of watching the same game play out over and over in these situations.

I thought he played well last night. We made a run everytime he was on the court. Wouldve won if he played instead of living and dying by parker.

He really can and will be able to with experience. Not in a traditional sense, he's not a traditional player, but he has the smarts for it. Will be more of a lead point than Patty, TBH. You can call him what you want, but he will recognize mismatches, the hot hand, the man running the floor, etc.

I saw Bonner in uniform.
Butler was out of the rotation. He has now given way to Simmons and Anderson, and has played only garbage time since Pop started to focus on developing these two.
Bonner apparently has his stroke back, but the players he would be replacing do so much more for the team than shoot a 3... so far Bonner has also been seen in garbage time.

This is a good point. He looked done last season but was one of our better performers in the playoffs. Not worried about Patty yet.

I know, I mean in general, in these situations.

I agree with the comment about Bonner. I wouldn't go in with the intent of playing him, but if/when the seemingly inevitable occurs, I'd dust him off.

Butler, on the other hand, I'd go in with the intent of playing.

They're clearly not the answer in the macro sense, but they're their best in house options and they need to be given a look.

I don't know how many times we have to see this team struggle mightily offensively, on the road, against a .500 or better team, before they resort to this.

This, would you rather him peak now, or in the playoffs?

Wouldn't be so concerning if Green wasn't going through a major slump...we really need at least one of them to be a high-volume 40+% 3-point shooter.

Exactly. Mills does have that tendency like Green to disappear on the road during the regular season. But Green does this in the playoffs. In the playoffs, Mills is money no matter where he is playing for the most part.

Not sure what's going on with Patty, but in the past two games, his missed almost all his shots and actually hasn't actually taken a lot of them.

Same than for TP, what are the others solutions? McCalum? Whoever you replace him by, will bring his own liabilities/match-up pb anyway...

We just have to hope he'll be a diff player during the PO

What's Pop gonna do; play Black Ollie (AKA Corpse McCallum)? Should've kept Jimmer, tbh.

If he plays bad in next playoffs, i will say yes to this statement.

Since he returned from that surgery, I count only 4 games when Mills looked like his old self: Rockets game we won TD block of Harden, 2 away @ Clippers series, vs Lakers this season..
