He's hasn't played in a while??? He was playing quite a bit until he missed sometime with personal issues. Since then he hasn't played at all hardly? Is because the emergence of John Simmons? Is it something else? Some body fill me in please.

He's an insurance policy to be cashed in if one of the top 3 wings is injured.

Giving the minutes to young bucks that are the future of the franchise in KA, and Simmons.

Butler played well from the very beginning, I thought. I think the previous responders answered the question. Pop already knows what he's got in Butler, is satisfied with it, and has moved on to developing the young guys. Butler seemed like an instant fit for the vet min.

Personal Issues? Care to expound? I would love for him to play over Kyle and Simmons in big time match-ups if both shit the bed.

That`s his role. I think he is fine with that

He missed a couple of games due to a family situation. I believe it was to attend a funeral.

Are we really wondering why the 15th man isn't playing more?

he's a good bench player... knows his role. Also participated with Patty playing a dunking Santa.

Because he's the 14th man, there isn't a 15th man to play.

Jonathan Simmons is what happened.

When Simmons had two bad passes in traffic last night I was wondering the same. Don't remember seeing him at shootaround, but I wasn't looking.

I agree that Butler is probably riding the bench while they develop Simmons. But I'm glad Butler is there.

He was only insurance and we haven't needed him. POP developing new guys is all.

I can't say why he's in clothes instead of Bonner, but I think even that is for the younger guys' benefit. Bonner knows the offensive sets from the big man spot and can help those guys practice in garbage time better. Rasual has always played as a wing and Pop was playing him at times as a stretch 4, but I bet he's not as familiar or comfortable with the sets as Bonner is.

They've got a week to decide whether to guarantee him for the remainder of the season. Even if they do, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see him waived at some point.

Butler not playing is for two reasons: 1) He's a known commodity and when he was in the mix early in the season, he wasn't making threes, 2) Pop wanted to get Anderson's/Simmons' feet wet and find out what they have.

If one outright claims the job, it actually increases Butler's chances of sticking for the remainder of the season, as they'll feel a depth wing is all that's needed. If neither claims it, they're obviously more likely to feel they need more of a fourth wing, which would come at the expense of Butler's roster spot, should it materialize.

It's Spurstalk. We've got 112 page thread still going on a guy who got cut in training camp.

The Jimmer thread is about Spurtacular trying to save face by turning a bad take into a shtick. I get that. This thread I find bizarre. Butler plays the same position as the Spurs' best player, their best shooter, their best play-maker and two of their top three developmental prospects. It would be weird for Butler to have played more, especially considering the Spurs' desire to stay big this season.

I suppose the OP hasn't watched any recent games if he's wondering...

Butler already served his purpose. If he's ever in the game again before blow-outs, it won't be a good thing.

LOL to be fair when youre a fan of the most stable franchise of the last 20 years you have to make up fringe things to get overexcited about.
