Yeah I think he could actually stop him considering a 28 year old Aaron McKie who was undersized at 6'5 and not athletic was able to hold him to 41 percent FG percentage in the Finals back in '01 just by being physical.

Kobe historically doesn't shoot well against tall defenders you know that. He sucked against Tayshaun Prince in '04, Posey in '08, Bowen in '03. Kawhi has all the tools these guys have to take out Kobe.
Raven

with today's rules, he probably would average 10ppg on .300 shooting against kawhi
Cry Havoc
01-06-2016, 05:17 PM
Kobe would have still scored obviously, but Kawhi would be the best defender Kobe ever had to deal with. He would have definitely been limited. I expect Kobe would keep bombing away though, I could see him trying to take 30-35 shots a game just to keep his scoring avg up.

Magic is just nostalgia of the golden era....make no mistake Kobe is the greatest..better athelete than Magic too...better jumper, better mid range, better low post and better defense than Magic...but I understand the Magic nostalgia point of view...end of the day though its Kobe first..
Magic was the better passer and teammate though..thats it

The fact that some people even bring up shit like this speaks volumes for Kobe as an offensive role player...feeding off Shaq, the rigged refs, with Robert Horry spacing the arc etc means Kobe could have an impact on the series vs Leonard.

I take back my original post. I said that Kobe isn't even the 2nd greatest Laker ever. What I meant to say is "Kobe isn't even the 3rd greatest Laker ever".
Magic, Kareem, Shaq are all above Kobe in the Lakers hierarchy. Don't take that as a diss Kool. When someone as good as Kobe is your franchise's 4th greatest player....that just shows how many greats have played for that franchise.

It's been well documented that Kobe has struggled in playoff/important games against other good (even average) wing players.
He's been outplayed by:
- Reggie Miller
- Jalen Rose
- Allen Iverson
- Tayshaun Prince
- Rip Hamilton
- Ray Allen
- Paul Pierce
- Rudy Fernandez
- P. Quineros
Put Kawhi on 22 year old Kobe, and I think Kobe averages about 25 points on 41% shooting. '08 Kobe was PEAK Kobe, and he got shut down by James Posey.

You couldn't do it. Let the Clippers take your cookie at home, where everybody's children play except for dum-dum Duncan's kids. They have another daddy now...+ a number of "uncles" lookin' to get into their mother's drawers. The line is long, black & distinguished.

Kawhi would have given that Kobe a lot of problems with his length, but he wouldn't have stopped him. Kobe went nuclear in the 2001 playoffs. Probably his best individual run other than 2009.

Kobe has rarely gone supernova during the playoffs in his career (he's only had 2 truly dominant/memorable post-season runs that I can think of), but for whatever reason that motherfucker always torched us. I'll never forget game 4 of that 04 series. He destroyed Bruce and sparked LA's comeback. The Spurs could have gone up 3-1 :pctoss. There's also that 02 series where he basically outscored our entire damn team in every 4th quarter and hit the game-winner in game 4...ugh.

Of course a high volume shooter is going to still score points due to taking too many shots. My definition of stopping a high volume shooter is when he shoots a shitty percentage which is what Kawhi would have done to Kobe.
