If one chooses to take the lump sum (I would), the amount is immediately lowered by 30%.
Fed taxes are like an additional 30%.
State taxes vary with New York being among the worst. Yet an additional 11%.

60% + is taxed. :wow
70% depending on which state you live in.

I'm sure we would all happily take the remaining 350 - 450 million but I mean fark,

Where is all this tax revenue going to?

Whenever it gets up over $500M, it sure seems like like there are multiple winners most of the time. Now you've got nobody winning with all these people playing??? Screams rigged to me.

There is a fucked up state out there that is giving IOU's for their lottery. Someone should be murdered for that shit.

From what I hear at this point... a winning lotto ticket will happen 66% of the time on these drawings. How many times in a row will 34% no winner continue ?

That's almost 500,000,000 for winning in CA after taxes, pretty crazy. I probably will get a few numbers, fuck it

Well it's not $1.3 billion in today's dollars, I always think it's retarded when they present it as some dollar amount today when you're really winning an annuity.

I agree. Technically, you are getting those dollars so they can advertise it as such but they won't be worth what they are today assuming inflation occurs.

If I win tomorrow. Nobody will ever know. I will wait a couple of months then give a full two weeks notice at work claiming to have found employment elsewhere.
I wouldn't be out buying lambos and RRs. I'd go as far as a Denali or something similar. I would fix up my house while building my new one so that it just looked like I was doing some renovations.
I'd be as sly as a mufugga

Don't you have to go public if you win? I do not know if the bill was ever passed that allowed you to remain anonymous. I guess you could claim through a trust.

You only have to go public in some states. You can get around it by using a trust or LLC.
If they make me tell everyone that I won, then I'll go El Chapo on them and dig a tunnel under my house.

Don't they want you to do the stupid press conference where you tell the world how dreams really do come true? If I ever won I'd do that press conference with a bottle of St Ides in each hand flanked by an entourage of hookers.

I'd eat a bunch of powdered donuts and go out there looking like Tony Montana. Then I would just stare at some random person in the crowd. Maybe with a stained wifebeater, cutoff jeans and a trucker hat that says "I'd rather be bonin'"

i read that australians can also buy tickets in this lottery cause they operate in australia also

but the problem is it costs $2 minimum in US to play a game, but htf is it $10 for one game down here ... and y es still have to pay taxes in america, but can the winner claim that back in australia...lol aussie govt would not allow 400m tax credit

That much money, you'd need a lawyer and financial advisor in place before you go claim your winnings. And yeah, telling anybody other than your spouse is probably the worst thing you could do right off the bat.

My suspicion is that you can choose to remain anonymous and just give a general description like 'a waitress in San Antonio" or 'a trust in Lubbock'....shit with that much money you can buy your own fucken reporter..

I already have a couple of lawyer buddies that I have known for about 12 years. I would go with them to help their families out and maybe even make them my full time lawyers. Def get a financial advisor though.

I read an article about this yesterday; people in China are getting $10 Powerball tickets from 2nd parties. This Powerball is active in 44 states and tickets can only be legally bought in those 44 states. Tickets being sold outside of the US are counterfeit or have been resold, which is illegal. Anyone claiming a jackpot from out of the USA will have to prove they personally bought their ticket in a participating state.

The lottery should be for people who can afford it, so essentially it should be a form of pure entertainment. Sadly, there are poor people who are using this almost as an investment strategy.
