San Antonio hosts East's best in LaBron, Cavs Thursday night
Spurs have won 31 consecutive home games

SAN ANTONIO - The last time the Cleveland Cavaliers and San Antonio Spurs squared off, it turned into one of the most memorable games of the 2014-15 regular season.

The latest matchup is lining up as another stellar affair as Cleveland has won eight straight games while host San Antonio's enters Thursday's contest with nine consecutive wins and a 22-0 home mark.

Point guard Kyrie Irving scored a career-best 57 points and drained all seven of his 3-point attempts as the Cavaliers went into San Antonio and produced a 128-125 overtime victory last March. Irving is just rounding into form after surgery to repair a fractured kneecap suffered during June's NBA Finals and scored 22 points as Cleveland produced a 110-107 overtime win at Dallas on Tuesday for its 14th victory in 16 contests.

Good to be playing a team that is performing well.

Time to measure the Spurs against real competition.

I remember Irving having a trail of gold dust coming out of his arse the entire game and virgins flying above him singing in harmony. If he bought 3 powerball tickets that day he would have won 4 times.

I'm real interested to see how the cavs deal with LMA or even Timmy down low. They seem to have the same problems Miami had and irving is probably an even worse perimeter defender than what the heat had.

Cavs match up well with Spurs. They have bigs that can guard our bigs, they have scoring, it will be a good measure.

That seemed to pretty much be the case all last year. It felt like all season long players were making tough + fluke shots against us.

Who can guard LaMarcus in their starting lineup? I mean, Love is not known for his defense.
That's the matchup I'm looking forward to the most.

I predict a bunch of plays that will make me go :wow

But then those dumbass plays in the clutch that will make me wanna :hang

In all seriousness though, I think LMA absolutely KILLS Love, Kawhi bounces back and somewhat limits LeBron (because nobody can shut him down) and Ginobili has one of those career nights. I think we win this one 105-101 :flag:

Double digit win for the Spurs, perhaps in the teen, or at least by ten. The team will be fired up, no matter how Pop would try to down play it.

Tristan Thompson and Muzgov are both very good post defenders.

truth be told that game against the Cavs last year (the last home game we lost) was probably the best basketball game I saw from last season. It was epic, just bittersweet that we lost it, but it was a great game.

I think it will be interesting to watch the bigs tonight, too. Last year's game in SA seemed to turn CLE's way (other than Kyrie being absolutely unconscious) when they took Mozgov and Love off the floor, and played a small ball lineup with Thompson as their only big. He got some big offensive boards and scores in the latter parts of that game. (Of course, if Kawhi makes his late FT's, that game would have been over in regulation).

Pop matched down to the Knicks last week, playing only Aldridge against smaller-ball lineups that had only Lopez or Porzingis. Wonder if he'll do the same tonight if Blatt goes small.

Just being real. There is no way we go undefeated at home and there is no shame in losing to this team.

Tristan doesn't start. I meant in their starting line up.

If any of them covers LaMarcus, wouldn't they leave Love on Timmy?
I haven't watched much of Love since his MIN days,
but if he's post defense is not very good they can have a long night.
Spurs starting front court are all post up players. Plus Boris.

It's just interesting to me to see how it plays out with Love in the line up and playing a better role for him than last season.

I want Spurs to out muscle Cavs in paint. Lebron is like Kawhi in that can guard smaller faster players. Need a good night from LMA. Boban may be needed too.

Boban won't play, but look for Diaw to eat them alive on the inside...unfortunately having Diaw in means Thompson gets a million second chance rebounds.

Boy am I happy Tony had a good game against the Pistons! We will need our stars this game, including Tony to play well. Kyrie is going to be a handful once again, and Tony has to make him work on the other end.

I know Kawhi has to be upset with his Piston's performance and he likes to go right at Lebron too. Lamarcus and TD will be big against Love, as they will have good matchups.

For the bench, I think they will be solid as they have been all season. I am hoping Patty gets his shot back to give us some breathing room.

We are playing at home, so I would expect the roleplayers to have good games. I am going bold saying we win this one in a close contest. Late game execution watch!

Who's better at backup....Patty or Delly? May be one of the deciding factors since Kyrie is capable of burning TP.

Since this is a big test game, I' trying to figure out how to spend 2016 since the season's apparently over in mid-January if Pop experiments, plays chess, we get outplayed/hustled and lose a game. Ready to blow it up. Attend UNT's funeral.

Delly is better because he's not a liability on defense. He could also guard bigger positions in switches which can make team defense all the more difficult.
