Spurs trade Danny Green and Kyle Anderson and picks to Sacramento for Rudy Gay.

PG-Parker
SG-Kawhi
SF-Gay
PF-Aldridge
C-Duncan

We all know Gay isn't a "franchise guy" or even a legit #2 on a championship contender. But I think he'd excel as just a "guy" with tremendous upside. Why not?

Green and anderson arent the problems... its really lamarcus.

If the clips call and say Blake Griffin for Lamarcus straight up. Id listen.

Yay, more midrange jumpshots

If Gay committed to playing defense like he did in college, that'd work.

In that case I would try to get Batum, he is a better fit and is only on a one year deal, so is no likely he is going to stay there.. with Parker, Diaw and Aldridge I can see him signing a longer deal here. Now Danny could have signed a bigger deal elsewhere on the offseason, so is no fair if we trade him, but damn he is really playing bad... the bright side there´s still time.

Green is not the problem on this team (if you can even complain about a team with a 38-7 record). He's under-performed this season but he's shooting 45% from 3 in January.

We are 38-7. Don't trade anyone. The massacre 2 nights ago was because Chubbs was given curry when even a 5th grader knows, "hey, maybe Leonard or green should cover him"

Yeah, Green isn't playing bad, but I like the idea of Batum on paper. He can do more with the ball and is a good shooter/defender. He's a guy would could be Danny lite in that role but also help carry the bench and Parker in the future. Issue is that he's a wet noodle in the playoffs.

Batum was the only starter that played well against the Spurs (2014) & he was injured last season.:lol Otherwise, he was never a full-time starter during his previous postseason appearances.

Not thrilled about Rudy.
I agree our bigger problem is Lamarcus underperforming. Also when Tony plays bad it affects everyone. The guy with the smallest role in the SL is Danny and he's been playing well in January, at least back to his norm.

What about Jeff Teague for Tony Parker and Ray McCallum or Kyle Anderson?

Jeff Teague and Dennis Schroeder are available for trades this morning apparently.

Rudy is the Softridge of SFs (LMA is more like Rudy than Carmelo, tbh:lol). All he does is take contested mid-range jumpers/fadeaways & play mediocre defense despite having the physical abilities/talent to be a perennial all-star. He would end up being just another Dick Jefferson since he isn't great off the ball & as a low volume shooter.

I would be more interested in re-acquiring George Hill in exchange for Danny since he's actually a known commodity, has a reasonable contract & there is a need for a combo guard w/ size. Simmons is already eating into Danny's minutes anyways:lol & the Pacers could a wing player w/ size since they like to play Paul George at the 4.

I don't like Teague, but Schroeder has potential and is young. I like him, while realizing he's 22 and still a developing player. I don't think Pop would want to lose Tony. Any trade that includes him while we are still trying to win a championship is not happening, but hypothetically I do like Schrooder for Tony.

Spurs would have to get Will Sevening a body guard

(I know he's not the equipment guy)

Spurs need more nasty but the Spurs require smart nasty. Pop has no tolerance for stupid. That is why even though an athletic shot blocking big would be great for the Spurs, some ST posters rightfully corrected me when I suggested Javell McGee. Ultra athletic shot blocker that would NEVER work on the Spurs. Right after intelligence is attitude(selfless team first). While Russell Westbook is a killer, his ego wouldn't allow him to be a good fit here either. So does Rudy Gay have the smarts and correct attitude to be a Spur?

Yeah. He's the most consistent shooter we have

Much rather Spurs make a bid for Will Barton, dude is a stud and with Gallo back he is getting the backseat in Denver.

Spurs also need a backup PG who isn't trash. Shroeder is available

Why would the Nuggets trade Barton when he is a young rising player on a cheap contract?:lol

Kawhi SG?

Especially against the Dubs. Bench Danny. Start Kawhi at the 2 and Rasual at the 3. Kawhi vs. Klay = advantage Spurs; Butler vs. Barnes = advantage Spurs. Tony vs. Curry = advantage Dubs, however, Curry is forced to play D against Tony. Kawhi is our best shooter and he has improved his handles. As long as he doesn't dribble into too much traffic, he handles the ball at least as well as Klay. He would devour Klay on D, and neither Klay nor Barnes could cover him.

I agree with you here, Batum (and some random scrub) for Aldridge.

Coz it doesn't matter what the Spurs do in the regular season. The Spurs are failures if they don't win the championship. LMA is looking like a failure if he can't prove that he can carry the team to the promise land.

Good point. For our purposes, I actually like Butler more than Rudy. Butler is a team guy who doesn't need much to have impact when his shot is falling. Overall though, our problems are bigger with Timmy looking poor the past few games, and now injured, LMA underperforming and Tony having looked so bad against the Dubs after rest bc of the injured hip. We are not whole going into Feb. or playing too well.

You won't know if the Spurs are failures until after the season is over, then. Why bother opining on anything in the meantime?

Because we are fans and that's what we do. We react to what we see.

We cheer the team on. We agonize over a bad play. We agonize over years without a championship. We get depressed over a missed opportunity to win it all. We celebrate when we win. That's what fans do.
