Let's see, Simmons plays well in the first half and Pop's answer is to not play him and Danny in the third....riiighhhhhhhttttttt.

Lol at blaming the refs when SA Shits have given up 92 points with a whole quarter to play :rollin:

Exactly. Kevin Love is getting practice shots. Lebron is killing these fools with transition buckets because they're too lazy to get back on defense or even attempt to get in position to take a charge but it's the refs fault.

Pop pulled Green early to put in Manu who had been in full Ginobyl form all game. Just a minus coaching move.
Yea I would have sat Manu.
I think Pop wanted the ball to move in general.. but it didn't happen, hero ball happened.
Then Patty to get some 3s, I understand the idea but it was a disaster.

I wonder if we didn't see Manu/Simmons bc the mess they engaged in against GSW turning the ball over crazily.
Still Manu made this game worse.

Patty on LeBron isn't working, Pop. Maybe you should let him try guarding Kevin Love instead?

The Spurs are switching & LeBron is forcing Patty to switch onto him.:wakeup

One can only hope this ignites an appropriate fire in the team and answers whatever questions Pop has left unanswered.

Again, we lost only 2 road games in January to the teams in the Finals last year. Hardly, meltdown worthy....
That would be true, if the losses weren't as horrible as they were.

That's what happened? I was at a fundraiser, and only saw that he played just 9 minutes. In a game where they couldn't get stops, and Danny wasn't on the floor? I figured it was something he did.

Yeah, Pop got Manu in there early in the first. Manu sucked really badly, but Pop doubled down and put Simmons in to take Green's normal minutes. Simmons has been high-energy but ineffective, but then Pop brings Danny in for literally a minute before bringing back Manu to suck it up. THEN Pop starts the whole thing again in the third.

I get that he wants to try some stuff in preparation of a possible Finals match-up. But not playing Green after he finally seems to have his confidence back is sickening. If it were just Simmons, I could sort of understand. But Manu's been bad, and he doesn't need playing time. Just bad all around.

While we aren't helping ourselves. This officiating is bar none the worst I've seen this season. Touch fouls going to the basket, loose ball fouls while players fight for possession, all this while allowing the same defensive contact (and maybe a bit more) to go the other way. Typical NBA officiating when two heavyweights play each other during a regular season game. I hate it when the Spurs are on the receiving end of it too. It's bullshit.

Spurs are the worst defensive team in the league. Halfcourt pace obscures this largely, but it's plainly obvious based on the eye test all year. It's like the Philadelphia Eagles. Started out with some good stats on defense, but it was plainly obvious how bad they were once they suffered a couple injuries and started giving up 45 point games on a regular basis.

Half court D is better with both Duncan and Aldridge in there...the Spurs want to play a slower pace to take advantage of their size...get rid of Duncan you expose Aldridge's defensive deficiencies...the wings need to do better to get out in transition and slow guys like Irving, Lebron, Curry, etc...

A lot of it we can control, but we are going to have to figure out specifics like who to have as a primary and secondary defenders with the absence of Timmy. I know the narrative that Pop wanted to experiment with a zone against a hot shooting contender will remain but holy shit was the zone broken down at pivotal moments where the lead grew. Running a zone works (to an effective degree) against athletes the likes of which you'll find at the middle school, high school and even college. Against an NBA team you are asking to get burnt if you keep it for a long period of time.

Some deeper meaning there.

This year's Spurs team is being built for the slow pace grind it out style of the POs. Don't let the inflated record fool you... with different players and style the Spurs have yet to peak as a team. If they're still getting blown out in late March, then ya we suck.
