How much are you paying to get that much speed?

My cable provider has a 100mb plan that's like 100 bucks.

Unless that's some photoshop bullshit you're pulling. :lol

http://www.speedtest.net/result/5047161518.png (http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/5047161518)

My speeds go from 50 to 59mb.

Only paying 5 dollars extra for the boost.

it's probably company speed. with all the network drinking from that milkshake. i doubt he usually gets that.

comcast on my end sucks. i never get the speed i pay for because of the coax. it's my only provider though.

Yeah that's what I thought.

Those speeds aren't available to the every day user I would think. Company net sounds more fair.

DMC
02-02-2016, 08:54 AM
Eventually it won't be a talking point. We'll have the speed we need to do what we want to do. I do already, but there's still that "better than yours" concept. It was the same with PCs for a long time where CPU speed was always the goal, now it's performance on certain platforms.

The Reckoning
02-02-2016, 12:41 PM
my internet is fast enough when it's running at 30. if I need better response I just use an ethernet cable...iirc if you're a single user pulling 5 mb/sec and under 100 ping is plenty for anything you're doing unless you're downloading a shtitton of gb worth of data at a time.

I know TWC is offerinv us 200mbps, but i was skeptical until this thread. Guess maybe it is legot after all. It's real. To make sure you get the most out of it over wifi you need a really good AC router or one of TWC's newest modem/router combos.

It's real. To make sure you get the most out of it over wifi you need a really good AC router or one of TWC's newest modem/router combos.

That is correct. In order to achieve these new speeds you need a "Maxx Modem" which has 16 downsteam channels rather then the standard of 8. Customers who are in these MAXX areas should seek these newer modems.

Not sure what 'do it internally' means. There's several ISPs in SF, of course the ping is low

It's funny because I was running my desktop rig off wifi at first and was getting 100/100 and I was THRILLED....it wasn't until I saw my phones and work laptop getting 200/200 on wifi I was like hold on a minute :lol

Well no it's not always, and ping does matter as much for these kind of bandwidth tbh. Hence why the speeds I got were no different/better 350 miles away. Picking a decent server in Texas yielded similar results.

It was eventually increased to 300GB before I moved, but in these modern times where companies expect you to download/stream everything, it's laughable.

Cap is something Fios would be using and imposing on their customers. lol

The speeds some of you are getting makes my head spin. I want at least half of that.

With how much shit I constantly download I really need it.

I usually download entire series in one go. For example I downloaded The Leftovers season 1 and 2 the other day. Was about 20GBs, not a lot but it took me almost 3 hours to download it and it had a lot of seeds and leechers to boot.

Yes sir! Just bought me a couple of HP Envy's with some nice specs. I typically would build my own box but I'm to the point where I don't give a shit to do that anymore. I got great value for the hardware at Best Buy. So I get over 235mbs down on wifi alone. I connected it to the WIFI router just to see what I could get wired through a 1GB nic and got over 700mbs down. I'm too lazy to connect the cat5 directly to the Fiber modem or it might hit closer to 1gbs. :lol I think there was another Fiber thread about a year ago and several of us were discussing when Fiber would hit SA. I got a flyer in the mail for ATT fiber about a week ago and called then switched in no time flat. Now Time warner is butt hurt as hell and trying to charge me for hardware I don't even have. :flipoff The streaming and just the overall quickness that my browser flips pages like flowing water is amazing!

Yep, did the same for our's. Threatened AT&T and they hooked it up with multi-year price locked Gigabit service and and uVerse (w/ HBO) for $143/month. Once that deal is about to end I'll call up the retention line again!
