Andre Drummond (Pistons), Aaron Gordon (Magic) and Will Barton (Nuggets) will vie to take the Slam Dunk title from Zach Lavine (Timberwolves), according to multiple reports, on February 13 in Toronto.

Getting fucking sick of this long worn-out trend of all no-names and no stars competing in it. When's the last time we've had a star in it, btw?
Only household name is Drummond and he's easily going to be the worst dunker in the contest due to his size and weight.
I want to see the Westbrook/Harden/Green/one underdog scrub dunk contest. One year, please? (Obviously Lebron is too old now and it's a big hit on his legacy that he never competed in one tbh)

Zac Lavine is an arrogant scrub who will probably fall off the radar in 5 years or so

The Slam Dunk Contest needs to be put to death like Old Yeller.

Or, bring the stars back. Pay them huge incentives to participate, actually ones that go to their bank account not some stupid charity crap.
All-star saturday night jumped the shark for me when they made everything all about goddamn charity, removed a round from the three point contest, introduced too many no-name scrubs, and fucked up the dunk contest by giving nearly unlimited time/attempts to guys instead of the traditional 30 or 40 second shot clock and only 1 replacement dunk per round... and brought in way too many stupid props, like the cake on the rim, the school of children, the Superman/Krypton costumes and of course the godawful Kia car episode. Not to mention the STUPID fan voting in the dunk contest! ASW is unwatchable now which is sad because it was one of my favorite holidays of my childhood growing up. They screwed up the rookie-sophomore game by making it a random pickup game like the joke the Pro Bowl is today. They even screwed up the all-star game by making it a dunkfest instead of an actually competitive game of stars duking it out to the death like it was in its heyday until about 2008 or so. Combine that with the shitty live music of today versus the decent R&B, pop and rock music from before and you've got a big ol' piece of shit. Also, moving it back such that the game is played about 2/3 of the way into the season instead of about 55% of the way is stupid as well. What a disgrace this once glorious weekend in sports has become.

Need to scrap the dunk contest for 1-on-1 or a game of 21 or something else. Shit is played out, it was 10 years ago

One on one would revitalize and bring excitement to this event but as long as casuals are supporting the AS weekend the SDC will be a staple. Personally, I'd like to see at least one streetballer competing for the SDC just to get the competitive juices flowing since the prize doesn't really exactly motivates the players.

the amount of money necessary to get the superstars in the dunk contest isn't worth it to the nba. There's no reason to risk losing face on such a public stage.

Three point contest is the only thing that matter in the allsatr tbh

One on One would be sweet, however that doesn't promote team ball. Plus the amount of beta's in the league nowadays wouldn't want to be exposed if they were to lose.

kirby stan talking about promoting team ball :lmao
How about nothing but the freshman/sophomore game and the actual AS game? I don't even care about the 3pt contest.

3PT contest is the only thing I like. Everything else I don't care about at all. At least people still try in the 3PT contest - you can't really coast. It's an actual skill and people take it serious IMO.
Dunk contest can be fun if they get good people, but it's getting less fun. I think adding the "non-NBA" guy is a good idea. Some of the pro-Dunkers outside of the NBA are ridiculous.

Problem with that contest is that players don't make that motion in the game. I'd like to see the shot come from passes from the paint. So all the balls are in the paint in racks, and the shooter chooses a teammate or someone to pass them the ball. They have the same time basically, and we'll see how the combo works together.

I'd definitely be fine with that idea. Agree it's not natural (it's harder I think off the rack), but at least it's a skill and guys seem to take it serious.

Gordon should be great though - he's like Blake Griffin level of fun. I didn't even know Barton was considered a dunker?
My votes would have been: Gordon/Lavine/Westbrook/Wiggins. Would definitely have rather seen DeAndre instead of Drummond - but maybe he will surprise.
