He baseline bum...

How would you like it if I did to your threads what you do to my threads?

Wow, thanks for bumping this really cool thread.

It's amazing how quickly physics is developing in our world. :tu Good post, BB.

OT, but anyone remember Zack the LEGO-maniac?

It would be hilarious.

No one fucking cares about your threads. Not even a little.

Although you following him into this one is funny in and of itself.

There was even an interesting bit somewhere that they figured out gravity waves move at the speed of light, just like every other fucking thing in the universe, nixing speculation that gravity was instantaneous across distances.

Have to find the news article on that.

Special relativity implies anything massless must move at the speed of light, from the relation that (E/c)^2 - p^2 = invariant rest mass in all inertial frames, where E is the relativistic energy and p is the momentum. Setting rest mass = 0 for our massless particle we then get E = pc so that it travels at speed v = (p * c^2)/E = c in all frames.

Gravity waves moving at a finite speed is what motivated Einstein to develop the general theory of relativity.

That is the theory (not that I am famialar with the particulars), but they found some evidence that bore it out.

gah.... couldn't find the damn article. It talked about how they managed to measure the differential in earths orbit and so forth.
