Or pay stars a stipend to participate. Money that goes to them, not to some dumb charity.

I actually like this idea as a way to prevent underpayment of stars with a salary cap. I order to have good teams with balance, you need to have a salary cap. But then guys like Lebron get underpaid. So give an extra 5-10 mill to the mvp, First team, rookie, etc. I prefer that to giving psuedo stars max contracts.
