We let them off the hook in '06 and then they choked their ass off in the finals and followed that up with a first round exit.

Homecourt being the main reason

They were also 55-4 or something like that during a stretch of the regular season and looked pretty unbeatable. Add to the fact that Dirk was playing out of his mind in a majority of those games (50-40-90 at about 24ppg), it was pretty clear that he was gunning for Mr. Larry O'Brien. The Mavs were setting the records that the Warriors are breaking today.

Mavs were the legit contenders that year, if not the favorite, and it's unfortunate that they ran into a really really hot opponent. I'm not saying the Mavs would've outright beaten the Spurs, but given it took the Spurs 6 games to close out the Suns with home court advantage, I'm not so sure they could've pulled it out against the Mavs.

GSW had the right personnel and played the perfect way to beat them in that series. I'm not saying Dallas would have beat SA, but I'm not going to understate Dallas' ability to match up well with the Spurs of that era based on the way GSW played.

No the refs stole both games 3 and 4 for them. 97 Free throws in TWO GAMES. It was the worst two games I have ever watched. The Spurs couldn't even lay a finger on the Mavs player without a foul being called in the late 3rd and 4th quarters of both games. Despite it, the Spurs were a Manu foul away of another NBA championship.

What odds would you have given the Spurs to win against them

Regardless, even ignoring the matchup problems, avoiding the Mavs meant that the Spurs only played 1 decent team during the entire 2007 run, tbh:lol..

A tough, ultra-competitive Phoenix series, followed by a grueling Mavs series would have been in a different universe of difficulty compared to playing a Utah team that would have been eliminated in the 1st round in most seasons..

matchups. The Baron Davis/Stephen Jackson team was the only team that beat them all season (actually the last 2 seasons) and really had a chance to beat them that year tbh

Spursfan anger in this series has long been misdirected to
game 7. Watch the last fifteen seconds of regulation of game 4. You've probably all forgotten but that was full on cheating on steroids. Put the Mavs up 3-1.

Bavetta.

I will go to my grave watching Dirk get gifted free throws in a situation where that never happens.

Just desserts they were sodomized by zebras in finals. They had no business being there.

A lot of the early Seinfeld seasons were exaggerations of Larry David's real-life experiences.

Suns had home court in 07 but I agree on all you said above. I don't know who would have won that series but with HC I think the Mavs had the edge.

I never bitch about Refs but some of those calls during that series were the worst I have ever seen and most went against the Spurs (Finley tech and Tim fouling out for Dirk stepping on his foot). They later took back the Tech, Popovich replies does that mean we win by a point now? They lost in OT. Talk about salt on the wound later, why even take it back when that decided a series? They win in 6 if he doesn't get that Tech.

Dallas fans forget this and bitch about the finals, but honestly the Spurs were robbed in a few of those games and Dallas never should have been there. I remember after a certain game on TNT Charles saying NBA Refs suck, you could tell he meant every word of it.
