how teams are making a concerted effort to attack the Spurs' PGs? This has been a trend since the turn of the calendar year, and it's a big part of the reason why their D has started to look sketchy. Is this just a consequence of teams trying to avoid dealing with the Spurs' size advantage or have teams realized how much the Spurs' PG defense has fallen off without CoJo/Green regularly guarding a teams strongest backcourt threat?

Doc Rivers provided a semi blueprint against San Antonio. Kill their PG's and shift the defensive focus to the wings.

Teams barely put attention on parker nowadys. He doesnt have the same gravity anymore.

As shitty as the Lakers are, they are kind of bad matchup for the Spurs, especially without Kawhi. There's no guard/wing to hide on Tony on (you could hide Parker on Kirby, but Pop is still fascinated with that asshole and believes Kirbs would light up Tony for 40. He wouldn't). Players like Lou Williams, Clarkson, Nick Young, etc, monkeyball iso-type players who can create their own shot have been the bane of the Spurs existence for the last half-decade (Devin Harris, Jason Terry, Jarrett Jack, Rudy Gay, etc always seem to have career nights against us).

It's also puzzling why Green continues to get lit up by players like that.

Good Kobe would light up parker at his best for 40 it kind of makes sense that Pop believes the ghost of Kobe might be able to do the same to the version of Parker trying to collect SSI.

Danny is a low IQ player who gets beat on the same play all game long which is why he's a terrible off ball defender. He's great at reacting & has excellent timing but he's doesn't use his head.

Usually attacking the PG doesn't mean they think he's weak on defense, it means they think he's really good -- on offense.

In the past I'd agree, but it's been obvious for over a year now Parker has lost a step on offense and this year he isn't even the second option.

Best post in an otherwise dreary thread, tbh.

I have noticed it. Almost every good team attacks Tony... the GSW exposed that flaw. Even OKC with D. Waiters posting him up. Obviously some teams don't have a skilled guy to exploit our PGs but most do. It's a concern that we don't have a skilled defensive combo guard to throw out there to chill some of the guys who will get hot. Ray hasn't earned Pop's trust and Simmons, who might have been that guy cannot be trusted to handle the basketball under pressure as your main guard for stretches, so he's not that guy either.

I think it's because they make bad shots. Those kind of players start pulling up for long 2s, making heavily guarded lay ups, etc.

I think they make the shots the Spurs defense plans to live with. Monta also seemed to feast on the Spurs back in '14, thought he ended up with a bad FG%...

Anyone notice that the point guard position yeilded 40 points and 13 assists for a plus 17 in the last game?
