View Full Version : Spurs: Duncan's essential dismissal of Kobe in his interview shows Duncan is probably an

analytics guy. :tu

Of course dipshit Lakers fans are spinning this as "salt" (why would Duncan have any salt toward Kirby when he has more total MVPs, just as many rings [but more alpha dog rings], superior metrics, is ranked higher on pretty much every all-time list, and has more post-season records?), but it's obvious to me that Duncan has embraced the analytics trend over the past decade. Duncan has always lauded Lebron, gushed even, from the time Duncan told Lebron the NBA would be his league to Duncan picking Lebron on his all-time starting 5. And Lebron, unlike Kobe, is an analytics monster.

If you forced any analytics guy to be interviewed about Kobe, he'd react similarly to Duncan: Give cliched, but disinterested, lip service praise (he's a competitor; he brings his A game), but wouldn't go too far beyond that, like calling Kobe "the Michael Jordan of his generation," or "the ultimate closer," and other such nonsense. Lebron, another player who I'm sure follows analytics, pays Kobe the same backhanded praise in interviews.

Props to Duncan for not gushing like low IQ players (the Derrick Roses and Kevin Durants of the league).

“I’m here to play a game and win a game. I’m not worried about that stuff,” Duncan said when asked what it was like to face Bryant a final time. “He’s a great competitor over the years, but this wasn’t about him. It was about us trying to get back on track.”

I think Parker has a high bball IQ, but his vanity and primadonna personality sometimes override his intelligence (when Parker doesn't get caught up in heroball and dribble-dribble-dribble, it's a thing of beauty to watch him run the Spurs offense, even if he is a comparatively weak playmaker compared to other great PGs). So yeah, makes sense he loves Kirby, whose cultural image Parker no doubt envies.

DMC

Tim is thinking about this season, he still has one. Kobe's "love me" tour is Kobe's business and the Spurs played along per NBA request in SA, but there's no reason to continue that when Kobe walks off the floor before the end of the game and leaves the court. I hope he dies in a grease fire.

Parker took the Kobe/Tim last meeting narrative and made it "Tony Parker" night. He does that. He's a front runner. However he's also someone who has to play in a system. He follows orders to the letter, like Theron Grayjoy (sp?) who'd been flayed and was not about to go against his captor's wishes. Pop flayed Tony years ago.

Been working on cooking something up. I am going to win the bet, but not for the reason I initially thought. Honestly didn't think either team would be as bad they are. Was thinking the Wolves would be a borderline playoff team this year. Seems they maybe have a few more years to go though.

Who you want the Lakers to take in the draft if you dont get #1 for Simmons as he is the consensus #1 pick at this time.
