Can't believe we change from a ~90 oppPPG team into a ~105-110 oppPPG team without KL/Tim together, tbh...

Spurs defense was so good from 03-07 because Bowen never missed any games during that span, tbh.

Shocking that the defense would slip, would never have seen that coming for the following reasons -

- Two best defenders basically not being paired up during any of the last 10 games
- Older team during the doldrums of the NBA in January/February
- Pop doing his best job limiting minutes of main cogs
- Guys replacing the two aforementioned defenders not being renowned defenders due to age/size/inexperience
- Defensive numbers put up early in the season inflated due to crappy competition
- Opposing teams having had more evidence on which to scout/analyse the Spurs defense
- Opposing teams have been shown some ways to score on the Spurs by the superior teams (Warriors, Clippers etc)
- Playing on the road for like a month

WOW, who would have guessed the Spurs would have slipped a bit defensively?

Yeah, plus Manu is like our 3rd best perimeter defender, after Kawhi/Green...

I'm just glad we seem to have enough to outscore the shitty teams...

I mentioned this as soon as Manu got hurt. In addition to everything he does offensively, he's very disruptive defensively and always has an impact on that end even when he's struggling shooting. IMHO it's why a guy like Marco would nit have cut it w/o Manu and why Pop prioritized getting a defensive minded wing. Simmons is obviously not in the same conversation and neither is Anderson who is a forward, different position altogether.
I can't imagine Marco in a game like we had against the Suns. No thank you.

Just going to throw this out there. We needed more rim protection and rebounding but had to go small without Kawhi and Maanu... so it got ugly. Td is possibly still in minutes restriction and it was a B2B.

Edit not B2B, but 3rd game in 4 days.

That's not really saying much when you're competition is guys like Mills, KA, Simmons and Parker. He actually might be the second best post defender too. Dat historic defense...:lol

We're still like top 3 in the league IIRC.... the league just has been much more about offense than defense lately...

They were due some regression.

Without Leonard and Ginobili and with Duncan still not looking right, I'm not concerned with aesthetics right now, even against bottom feeders. They lack depth of perimeter talent (individually, they're all decent enough in limited roles, but collectively, they're underwhelming) and despite this, are still managing minutes, so almost every game is going to be a slog. As long as they keep winning, that's all that matters.

looks like a comment with anti-semitic overtones..read the last couple of pages of game thread; he had a run in with DPG (is he moderator?) who threatened a ban...

I love Diaw...but, watching him not play D is sometimes painful. I made note to pay attention to his D this game, and it was like he just decided not to play any. Tho, he was embarassed a couple of times so bad, he did have a good moment or two to make up for it. On the whole, it was really f'king bad...lol. Even Timmy looked bad. Amazing considering how tired and slow they looked, that Aldridge, Diaw and even West...still managed to some find energy on Offense. Yeah, amazing. lol

Parker's always been a bad defender. What you're noticing is a massive decline in post/help defense.

Yeah, and bigs too slow on the pick n roll. Parker is getting hammered on those, and keeps getting mismatches because of it. It's like every team has now found a key to beating the Spurs. Strong Pick n roll play on the guards. Our guards are looking like pinball machines out there. But, to be fair...it's kinda how we made our living for last couple of decades ;)

Well the pace has been upped since the start of the season but obviously it hurts to have one of the team's best defenders out, we saw some of it with Duncan out and now with Kawhi. Kawhi and Timmy have only played together once or twice during the past month.

Seeing Tim rotate over against the Suns only to have Alex Len dunk every other possession sucked. Tim was picking his poison because the perimeter players were rolling out the red carpet. Other teams are getting it too easy. The other thing is rebounding. The Spurs had one rebound for the first nine minutes of the third, what the hell? Even the moderately talented rim protecting rebounding bigs are getting $10 mil a year. It's weird to say this but I miss Baynes.
