Ammon Bundy and another 15 defendants pleaded not guilty Wednesday to federal conspiracy charges related to the 41-day occupation of an Oregon wildlife refuge. Several of the accused, however, expressed doubt that they enjoy the presumption of innocence.

Bundy sat at the main defense table while most of his co-defendants sat in the jury box as they listened to a government prosecutor read the indictment and U.S. District Judge Anna Brown tell them their rights.

Brown reminded the defendants they are considered innocent until proven guilty. One by one, she asked them if they understood. Bundy simply said "yes," but four co-defendants took the opportunity to express skepticism.

Last Oregon occupier to surrender denied bail so he won’t kill himself before facing trial

A federal judge denied bond to the last occupier to surrender at an Oregon nature preserve during an unusual and emotional court hearing.David Fry, who streamed live audio and video during the final days of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge occupation, pleaded for pretrial release Monday with his attorney and father, reported Oregon Public Broadcasting (http://www.opb.org/news/series/burns-oregon-standoff-bundy-militia-news-updates/david-fry-detained-judge/).

The 27-year-old Fry was among four holdouts who remained at the nature preserve for 16 days after the police shooting death of rancher Robert “LaVoy” Finicum and the arrests of several occupation leaders.

Bundy doesn’t have to “waive” his Second Amendment rights in order for the corrections department to disarm him.

He’s convinced his Second Amendment rights “are being violated,” which is true. That’s what happens to people in jail.

Oregon wildlife refuge standoff participant sentenced to prison: report

The first of 26 people on trial for their roles in a weeks-long takeover of an Oregon wildlife refuge in January has been sentenced to 2-1/2 years in federal prison, the Oregonian newspaper reported.

Corey Lequieu was sentenced on Tuesday in federal court in Oregon for conspiracy in connection with the armed takeover of the Malheur Wildlife Refuge, the newspaper reported.

In addition to time in prison, he was also sentenced under a plea deal to three years of supervised release, the newspaper said.

Lequieu, then 44, was among the armed protesters who occupied the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge from Jan. 2 over grazing and other rights to use federally-owned land in the Western United States.

In May, he agreed to plead guilty to one count of conspiracy to impede officers of the U.S. government from doing their jobs, court documents show.

Leaders of the protest, including ranchers and anti-government activists Ammon and Ryan Bundy, are set to go on trial as soon as next month. Their armed standoff had lasted about six weeks.

Bundy Lawyer Demands Right to Wear Cowboy Boots at Trial

The lawyer for Bundy son Ammon Bundyargued in court Tuesday that his client has the right to wear cowboy boots (http://www.oregonlive.com/oregon-standoff/2016/09/ammon_bundys_lawyer_argues_for.html) when facing a jury in his upcoming trial.

Bundy, who was arrested with his father Cliven Bundy after seizing control and occupying Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, was informed by the U.S. Marshals that he wouldn’t be able to wear certain articles of clothing at his trial.

Among the banned clothing:

“Ties,
Bows,
Belts,
Handkerchiefs,
Cuff Links,
Steel toe boots/shoes,
Shoe laces,
Shirt tie down straps,
Safety pins, [and]
Shirt pocket pen protectors.”

The banned items could all be used as improvised weapons to try to escape custody. Bundy agreed not to wear steel toe boots, but was later informed at a hearing that he could not wear any boots, as they could interfere with his leg shackles.

Ammon Bundy vows to obtain an assault rifle — after failing federal background check

Far-right provocateur Ammon Bundy on Saturday posted a video to Facebook where he vowed to obtain an assault rifle after failing a federal background check to purchase a firearm.

“I call a buddy, he says, ‘Yeah, I got a guy who can get some lowers for an AR-15 or an AR-10’ and then I tell him that I was just denied and he’s like, ‘Oh, that guy can’t help you, you know.’

And basically what that does is it forces me to go on the street and find a gun.”
