3 seconds left on the clock, game 7 of the WCFs , would you let Finely take the last basket?

Finley won't be closing any close games, and certainly not in the playoffs, so no last shots for Fin.

And WGAF? Spurs don't need him and he will make a marginal contribution, that Brent or other could make.

Clutchness: Horry, Duncan, Manu. Finley would be stacked behind those guys, as would be NVE.

Id let Fin-dogg take the shot.

Especailly against the Mavs. when MOUSE is in the stands!

No, he's a former Mav, and is therefor NOT clutch. We only need some bench minutes and points from him.

Then why not go after Horn?

09-25-2005, 02:41 PM
If he's hot that night sure, but I don't see this team playing very many game sevens.

Two types of conventional wisdom, go with the guy who makes the big shots or the guy who is making them that night, either way is fine with me...

YES. IF Finley is on the court in that situation, it's cuz Pop put him there.

He takes the shot if he's open. The ball should be in TD or Manu's hands to start...but all the Spurs on the court in that situation should be ready to be the MAN if the ball swings there way...that's what makes them CHAMPIONS. :tu

Then why not go after Horn? You didn't waive him....

Of course KVH's playoff performance drops off even more than Finley's, but that's another subject.

No, Ill take Manu, Horry, Tim, NVE before him in terms of taking the last shot.

Let me turn this around, take Dirk out of the question (and even he is somewhat questionable) who do the ----Allas Mavericks turn to for a shot at the buzzer?

Best bet would be to bring AJ off bench!

There would be a big difference if Finley took the last shot in SA compared to when he was in Dallas.

Nelson would draw up a play for Finley (and everyone knew what it was) to take the last shot in Dallas. It didn't start with Dirk or Nash or whoever, it began and ended with Finley.

The only way Fin gets the last shot in SA is after it's gone through Duncan, Manu, and likely Horry.

NVE, Manu, Finley, Horry, TD. Final 30 seconds and who has a better lineup?

I would trust ANY of those guys to take the shot. And chances are, either Duncan or Horry's Reputation is going to get doubled. My guess is they'd double off Finley or NVE. Leave either of them open, and I have complete confidence in them nailing the shot.

3 ticks left, Spurs can put a lineup of NVE, Manu, Fin, Horry, Tim! WOW!!

Manu would have the ball in his hands, but if he had to give it up, then...

...HELL YEAH I trust Finley!

Well, considering that almost everybody that plays for us becomes clutch, yeah, I'd let him take the shot. Almost every player on the Spurs has hit a game-winning shot at one time or another, so what the hell, line em' up!

Seriously, I wouldn't mind Finley taking the shot at all.

In fact, considering his career 3pt field goal percentage is one of the highest on the spurs..... I think I'd prefer him taking the shot.

conversekid
09-25-2005, 11:18 PM
Well... the Mavs trusted him enough to take the last shot over Elliot with a couple seconds left in game in Dallas... Shot right over him to win it.

I trust him to shoot it
I trust nic
I trust manu
I trust td
I trust horry

if it's their shot... give it to them...

MJ was da Bomb also, but there were many times he missed the game winning shot,

Finely can make that shot as long as it's not againts the Mavericks, Thast is just to much pressure for any ex Dallas Maverick to have to deal with,

I can't wait for Spurs vs Mavs , when Finely and the Spurs get Served!

Yes, I'd trust Finley with the last shot. I don't understand all the hating on Finley from Spurs fans when he is on our team. Why throw one of our players under the bus?
First option for me is either Tim or Manu, depending on how Tim is shooting his free throws. If Tim is shooting his free throws well, I go with Tim, our two time MVP and three time Finals MVP. If not, I go to Manu without hesitation.
Horry is second after Manu if Tim is not shooting his free throws well. Otherwise, he is third after Manu. Fourth (if Tim is shooting his fts well) is Finley (or third is Timmy is not making his free throws). Fifth is Nick Van Exel.

Of course, our inside out philosophy suggests that Tim is normally the centerpiece of any play we run.

This just happens to be a team of great superstar players, who are able to rise to the occasion when it counts.

I notice that nobody has mentioned Parker on the perimeter as a deadly three point threat at the end of a game. Just had to get that in to get a rise out of some homers.

I forgot something while submitting my last post that I wanted to agree with.
Somebody brought up that they wanted to see the ball in Manu's hands at the end of the game. I completely agree with this. One of the really great things that we saw this year is Manu's decisions were excellent at the end of playoff games. Pop trusted Manu more and more with the ball at the end of the game (as in the Finals and game 6 against the Sonics- for that matter it was also true against the Suns) and it paid off. A couple of years ago, Manu was too reckless and careless with the ball. He would turn it over too much. That is no longer the case. Plus, of course, as we all know, Manu is the best free throw shooter of any of our starters. The evolution of his decision making and the improvement in his assist to turnover ratio is an important part of his jump from a good player to one of the ten elite players in the league, which is where I place him.
I hope and believe that Tony will begin to make that kind of jump this coming year. Based off the improvement in his numbers from the year before last to last year, I would say that this expectation and confidence is relatively justified.

Lets see how you feel come playoffs, Talk is cheap now. Everyone and thier mothers are praising Huckle Berry Finnley now. But when your 0-3 vs The Mavericks in round one and there is 3 seconds on the clock?

The ball will go to Finely and when he misses that season ending shot? this site will explode with one over million get rid of Finely topics
the grape kool-aid will flow that night for sure,

I think it depends on whether we need two or three points to win. If it's two, then Duncan in close is dependable. Manu can get you two with a drive, and maybe a three if they foul him, but when they know a two won't win, then it takes some dunce like Rasheed to blow the coverage.

Horry is the first option on a three because...well, because he's Big Shot Bob, but Finley and NVE on the court will really spread things out for a last second 3. Any of these guys can make it.
