View Full Version : Why are the Thunder so bad in these late game situations?

They make a lot of mistakes for a team that has so much playoff experience.

HarlemHeat37

They are the most overrated team in the NBA, tbh, only Miami is near them(in that regard)..

I have no idea why so many Spurs fans want to avoid playing them..

Okc is mentally weak. Westbrook decision making down the stretch is laughable.

Would love for the top 4 seeds to stay as is with dubs getting clipps in 2nd round. While we get okc.

On plus side, maybe okc shows up tomorrow and beats golden state?

OKC is primed for a beat down after blowing to games against conference rivals....WestBrick/Durant are going to have a locker room meltdown when the Worriers spank them in Oakland.:lol

THIS. I thought coach Eddie Munster would add some innovation to their system but I was wrong. I'd much rather play them than the Clips.

Cripples don't have any pressure on them b/c they are the forgotten team (ala the 2011 Mavs) so they are more dangerous than ever. Just hoping Blake tries to do too much ala Westbrick to makeup for his sins or reverts to his old passive ways trying not to screw up the mojo.

I hate the clippers but it was good to see them do this to someone other than us for a change. Usually Crawford and redick only play well against us.

The Spurs avoided the Mavs in 2007 now they must face the Cripples while the Worriers have a cakewalk against OKC :bang

They should trade WestBrick for John Wall or KD should just sign w/ the Wiz.

Shitty coaching. They traded one shitty coach for another shitty coach. Durant is definitely leaving that shitty organization.

Westbrook has always been like this. He is over confident and doesn't give two fucks about Durant or what the coach says.

BatManu20
03-03-2016, 04:34 AM
Predictability, mental fragility, and most importantly, they're a 2-man show. Any close game they are in, you know exactly where the ball is going to be and who is taking the shots down the stretch. It's easy to defend, and they don't have a coach who can make in-game adjustments, although in Donovan's defense, they don't have any other creators besides those two. It's Iso-ball or die.

Westbrook has become a much better playmaker, but in the last two minutes of the game he reverts to being a chucker ... that 3 point attempt in the last 10 seconds was horrible

well OKCs season is over we all saw the warrior game, the crestfallen fans, every player was totally desperate. They've flushed their entire franchise down the toilet.

Their transition defense and perimeter defense is so offensive to the human condition that their owner drove his car into a wall for a fiery suicide and we all understand. It doesn't even seem too harsh

Empty stats Westbrick has to be one of the worst chuckers in the history of PGs. Think about this: Westbrook has never once shot 47% or better from the field in any season of his career. For comparison sake, Parker has shot better than that every year for his last 12 seasons. It's no wonder this team couldn't win a championship with an MVP and otherwise great supporting cast.

They have 2 headcases for superstars......neither coach has shown to run anything resembling set offense in the half court. They just let KD and russell streetball with their superior skills....but the other 3 are just left asically watching a 2 man chuckfest. Then on defense.......basically there is none. Yes they rebound well. They don't guard one on one very well. KD is the second coming of Dirk when it comes to defense. He avoids contact the way politicians avoid the truth. Then in critical situations, they panic and lose their focus....like against GS. KD had a to to use but instead panicked and threw the ball away.

They win a lot of games in this piss poor league......but come the playoffs, they won't get passed the 2nd round.

Everything starts with the guy that runs the team for them. He has been making stupid mistakes, taking bad shots and costing them key games for years, but he gets a pass because he is an exciting player that plays hard.

They lack depth, West/Durant exerting to much for the whole game and cant complete a full game playing well.

When they were deep in 2012 they guys could get some rest, havent been able to much since, especially when Reggie Jackson left, he was decent.

Uh no, not really, not at all, in fact. Redick is a pretty good player:

"How good has J.J. Redick been all year? He’s got the league’s highest individual offensive rating (112.4) among players who aren’t Warriors or named Kevin Durant or Russell Westbrook. He has the highest individual net rating of all non-Warriors and non-Spurs. He has the best effective field goal and true shooting percentages among guards not named Steph Curry (min. 10 games, 20 mpg)." Westbrook has never had, nor ever will, the mental understanding of now to truly run a team, especially late in playoffs. He will never "get it".

Playing with OKC-Clips stats found this:
In the 4th quarter,
OKC's offensive rating: 52.5
OKC's defensive rating: 134.2
Net rating = -81.7

Major collapse.

They're bad because Westbrook is a chucking turnover-prone ball hog who doesn't trust his teammates even when he's playing like shit late in games.

And yes I do blame Westbrook and not Durant even though Durant can make some of the same selfish mistakes. I think its happening with Durant because of Westbrook. They seem to be almost fighting over who gets to have the ball or be the hero rather than play like a team.

Westbrook is a very talented player no doubt, but I think he is not a great leader or team player and it shows the most when the pressure is on with his reckless, selfish play.

Nop, they aren't. They barely beat us last year with home court, with them playing better than this season and us playing much worse than this season. There's absolutely no chance the Clippers beat the Spurs in the playoffs this season.

FWIW, the Thunder didn't beat us twice in a row either.

The Thunder looked just like the Queens did in game 7, 4th quarter, 2002 WCFs. Difference? When teams choke vs the Clippers = "Why are the Thunder so bad in late game situations?" Against the Lakers = "Queens were robbed!"

When it was crunch time, both teams pulled a Jim:
