Monte Morris

H: 6' 3"
W: 175 lbs
Bday: 06/27/1995
(20 Years Old)
Iowa State
DX Profile (http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Monte-Morris-72551/)

Current: PG
NBA: PG
Possible: PG

What strikes out to me is his assist to turnover ratio (while playing pretty much the entire game) in a loaded Big 12 Conference. Should be a great prospect for our future PG needs.

Added the link to the DX profile. Will openly say I know nothing about him yet. But the dude has good size, and he's a young member of his class like Duncan and Green are. Another option to consider at 28.

He's a pass first PG. But able to penetrate and has hit numerous game winners under pressure. Give him time to develop and he could be a steal for late first round/early second.

I like this guy too. His AST/TO is crazy good for a guy playing almost 40 minutes/game.

He is really under the radar right now, but a lot of people have already noticed how good he has been playing this season. Most mocks have him as a mid 2 rounder, but I think he will rise.

I certainly can't figure out from his DX profile why he's not a late-teens, early-20s guy.

That he can make plays and shoot while also having the size and length to become a plus defender makes him really intriguing. I don't see why he will still be there, but I guess you just have to hope. Could totally see Chicago drafting him, because they always draft really good players.

Yeah. Usually I like reading those nbadraft analysis or the DX videos with strengths and weakness to find out quickly why a guy is too low or too high, but in his case I couldn't find much.

I found this article. They point out a few things that might help us to understand his value (light frame for a Junior, low usage, needs to improve defensively etc), but I still don't get why this guy isn't at least late 1st/early 2nd round pick.

Staying on the Iowa State side, what do you guys think of Georges Niang? Projected to go undrafted and he's a bit undersized and pretty unorthodox near the rim but I'd like to see him in the summer league to see what he can do at the next level.

And of of course the Hoiberg connection.

Cyclone fan here. Monte is staying for his senior year, and it's going to be his team. He's a guy that makes plays. He came in making plays. Hoiberg was good for him, but his new coach has put pg's in the league, Cam Payne.

He is not an elite athlete, but no one has stopped him from getting to the rim in his career. If he gets stronger and a more consistent j he will be an even more elite college player. High character guy too, he's from Flint Michigan and partnered with a local grocery store to ship truck loads of bottled water to his home town. I would love to see him as a Spur.

Niang is an interesting player too. He's not athletic but has always managed to get it done. He will get a chance somewhere. He's a great kid easy to root for.

Do you have an article or something to confirm? If so, I'll update the thread.

29) San Antonio Spurs - Monte Morris, PG, Iowa State

A great four year college player who lacks top athleticism but rarely makes mistakes and is a capable shooter. This is an incredible stat:

59. San Antonio Spurs: Monte Morris (Iowa State, PG, Senior)

Morris is a terrific decision-maker with a natural feel, but he gets forced deep into Round 2 without youth or athleticism on his side.

Physical and athletic limitations work against Morris' NBA chances. The Spurs will hope his unique feel for the game keeps him afloat as a backup.

I'm a Kevin Pelton fan.
Taking the top 28 on Ford's Big Board out of consideration, then applying Pelton's WARP, at 29:
#3 Monte Morris
#8 Josh Hart
#10 Jeremy Morgan
#11 Aleksandar Vezenkov
#14 Derrick Walton Jr.
#15-22,24,26 missing on the non-Insider list I found which implies they are not on Ford's Big Board
#27 Luke Kornet
