I know the trailer looked like shit, but I'm leaning on the feminist's side when it pertains to the manchildren who are crying about :cry muh childhood is ruined :cry

You have to remember if you reboot something 75% of your audience is gonna be fans of the original. You want to cater to them like Disney did with Force Awakens.

Obviously if so many people are denouncing it, they fucked up. Criticize the "baby-men" if you want, but bitches arent going to fucking watch ghostbusters :lol

You think guys would watch a Barbie movie?

It's not even the fact that it's women...the humor just looks forced and unfunny. The original actors were all naturals...Murray, Ramis and Aykroyd...they were three legends doing what they do best without even trying hard. This is just some women no one has even heard of cobbled together with McCarthy so they can have some semblance of name recognition. I'm sure the whole move can be summed up in that one dumb fucking scene in the trailer where one woman is smacking the other repeating the line from The Exorcist.

They also gave away the plot in the damn trailer, movies are doing shit like that a lot lately.

Yep, -Marshmallow Man- catapulted the original. So American. So USA. So white. The movie though is tedious.

:lol that's the irony of it. The movie does backflips to cater to the SJW/feminazi crowd but decides to cast the three white women as scientists who need the help of a black woman for her "street smarts". Did the producers not realize how racist that was at the time they were casting :lmao

this move will suck so they should have at least put 4 hot actresses in there instead of this shitty lineup. I am happy that they did leave the black guy from the last 2 movies still in tho.

I was optimistic about this as I loved Paul Fieg's work in Spy and The Office but the trailer sucked so much... Reminded me he was also responsible for The Heat...

Look up gamergate and you will quickly see where the backlash is coming from. They are also predominantly Trump voters too.

The top critics on Rotten Tomatoes are pretty much split. Half rotten, half positive. Well, positive-ish. Because even the positive ones stop way short of calling it a good movie, and have a "well, it wasn't great, but it didn't suck" kinda vibe. Definitely sounds like redbox material.

Seems like the positive reviews are coming from two places...the feminist crowd and the people who are worried about being lumped in with those who have been shitting on this movie for months(hence the "wasn't great but didn't suck" cop out).

There's nothing wrong with liking the original, or being disappointed in the quality of the reboot. It's not making anyone rage. It sucked; everyone is moving on.

The whole "I don't like it because women" seems to exist more in rhetoric than reality, but some people have really dug their heels in on it and developed some eye rolling dimestore psychology around it.

I just don't find any of the actresses funny. I would equally hate if the reboot starred Will Ferrell, zach galifinakis, seth rogen, and some other shitty actor.

I'm a little worn out on the style of comedy that goes:

Mediocre punchline >> Let's follow up on that punchline until it gets awkward >> Awkwardness becomes the new punchline.

It was funny in Anchorman, but it's basically become the standard now.

Darius McCrary
07-19-2016, 10:18 PM
I thought it was funny. Wasn't funniest ever, didn't suck, but it made me laugh steadily throughout.

I thought the cameos were fun too.

Darius McCrary
07-19-2016, 10:20 PM
For anyone on the fence:

Kristen and Melissa play very toned down versions of their normal movie selves. They're the straight gals. It's McKinnon and the big black chick that are the eccentric loud crazy ones. So it's not like 4 crazy loud girls all at once.

I thought their characters were balanced.
