You mean players who make unimportant shots in blowout games and then proceed to miss every single open shot in the playoffs?

He's never mattered in the playoffs other than against OKC to "spread the floor". It seemed to work.
I love Matt Bonner.
But I hope it's him.

Sure, but he was very unique for his time..a 40+% 3-point shooting big that wasn't a liability on defense and always a net positive was extremely rare..
He was a poor playoff performer, sure, but his style of play was unique for it's time, and has now become prevalent around the NBA..Bonner was one of the pioneers of today's era, tbh..

Matt Bonner did not pioneer the stretch 4 position. Matt Bonner was not a "Net Positive" on defense. I understand we're supposed to romanticize things for the sake of remembrance threads but sheesh.

Interesting thing happened in the game against the Wolves.
Bonner came out of the bench first, hit a couple of 3 point shots and to make it worse, Butler only came into play come garbage time.
The guy making the call was Messina and he may have just telegraphed who is going to be cut.
Appears that is may be Butler's last day.

Your line of reasoning could easily be reversed...that he gave Bonner minutes because he knew this was it for him...but I don't think either is the case.

Yes I think they made the decision already and this game wasn't going to sway them any other way. If anything like you I feel the Spurs would showcase the guy they were more likely to cut to allow his agent footage that would help that guy get another deal.

the notion of showcasing a guy is like a decision that is above the pay grade of Messina. Messina was instinctively inserting the players he believed could make a good contribution. Well, it turns out that he thinks it is Bonner over Butler. That is clearly evident here.
I would not make the same conclusion if Pop was coaching. But with Messina coaching, the truth is more transparent.

I do not give 2 flying fucks if he's a good team mate and friend...I care about what he does on the court.
He can be a coach or throw balls at players, not take up a fucking roster spot whilst we're in the fight for a championship and we have a team like the Warriors to go up against.
