Pop wants certain number of point guards, wing players and bigs, as those type of players aren't interchangeable.

The Spurs signed a very talented wing player, they cut another wing player. That's why Bonner is still on the roster.

That's the other logic here, versatility. PATFO wants the flexibility to insert a different kind of player than a same kind of player.

It makes less sense to insert Butler over Martin if Martin isn't playing well.

On the other hand, GSW has shown that they can play very well with a bunch of 6'6" athletic players manning all spots.

Can someone please tell me what dirt Matt Bonner has on Popovich or Peter Holt? send me a pm if you wish to not put the information on the public forum. Thanks in advance.

There was a decent new podcast on CBS' Eye on Basketball Podcast on the Spurs and the inexplicable fanbase love affair with Rasual Butler (including the valid point regarding his atrocious shooting). I'd have rather dropped Bonner, but really, no big deal.
It's Rasual fucking Butler. Pretty much garbage. Calm down kids. We'll give him a ring once we get it this year.

So you're going to pay for it.

Hahah, what, you don't think the Spurs organization would? How much of a season do you have to have usually played?

Anyway, this was GM Timmy's decision soooooo ;) he can get Rasual a ring instead of getting a new Punisher toy

Hopefully, PATFO bring him back as part of the staff even if it is for the Austin Spurs. Considering the brain drain, they could actually use someone like him.

All I can say is that this move sucks. However, Bonner can be more of a situational player than Butler. Too many guys can bring similar to what Butler can. I can see how Bonner helps change for example a series vs OKC if Ibaka is being a problem. Also, I can somehow see Bonner getting in raymond Greens head like he would vs Zebo.

As for waiving Rasual now as opposed to while he'd be playoff eligible for another team, I don't think Pop wanted this guy coming back and burning us if picked up by LA or maybe OKC.

:lol Boner still isn't going to be on the playoff roster, which is limited to 13...

11. Boban
12. Miller
13. Martin
---
14. Simmons
15. Bonner
