View Full Version : NBA: Would shortening playoffs series increase excitement for the playoffs?

Under the current format of best of seven, barring injury, the better team usually wins. In comparison, college basketball's march madness tournament is, in general, considered more exciting because of the one and done setup that leads to more upsets, even though the product on the floor is pretty atrocious.

But home court is a bigger factor in the NBA so I don't think making every round best of one would work, but maybe best of three or five in later round? People love parity, and with the way the NBA is now I talk to a lot of people who don't like it as much because of years like this(Warriors winning the ship seems to be a foregone conclusion)

I've wanted best 3 out of 5 in the first couple of rounds for awhile. 7 game series in the first couple of rounds is annoying and gets boring rather quickly.

I hated the short first round series. That's how you got that shitty Rockets teams in the Finals in 1981.

Only the first round was beat of five, they still had to face SA and KC(:lol) to get to the finals.

You mean the '86 Rockets upsetting the Lakers w/ a miraculous shot? (Moses owned Kareem & Magic wasn't a 100% in '81)

No, I mean that under .500 team that got lucky and stole two games from a far better team.

I like it the way it is tbh. The better team should win anyway.

As for the OP: Yep. We should make every round not a series at all, but single elimination as in the NFL. Only difference is, since it's basketball, rounds shall happen twice per week as opposed to only on weekends. Thus, the entire playoffs and Final game combined will last 2-3 weeks, about the same length as the Olympics. There you have it... exciting as you can get!

It's drags out because the NBA drags it out. I used to love back in the day when the first weekend was like march madness to kick start the playoffs. Thursday was 4 games but two going at the same time staggered a little on tbs and TNT. Then the other 4 the next night.

The NBA realized they could make way more money by having each game individually and adding more to the first round...and the rest is history.

The whole system needs to be revamped, from the regular season to the playoffs.

Look, Porkins, you've said I'm three or four different people so far. Make up your little mind and just stick to one thing, I really don't give a shit.

You weren't talking to me like 3 different times. You keep regressing. Try to maintain your stance for more than a couple days.

There's a count to how often I ignore you? :lol

Man, you sure want my attention. I'll acknowledge you in a week maybe, you aren't changing your shtick so I'm bored with you.

Pity reply, I'm done with you and your sloppy () arguments.

You know, sausage fingers, that's the second time you've misread a simple sentence to fit your own autofellating shtick. I'm cashing out, either you're too dumb to talk to or being stupid is your defense mechanism.

Always quitting. Never leaves. :lol
