I could break down the unfortunate series of events that led to Jimmer unduly being out of the league; but if you want me to encapsulate why Jimmer is not in the league now or why he might not be back in the league, I'd tell you that the biggest thing going against him is that he is a lightning rod. If things don't work out for the best, most GMs don't have the fortitude to take on that potential media hazard.

Jimmer Fredette snapped out of his shooting funk in a big way to lead Shanghai Sharks to a 116-97 win over the Shanxi Brave Dragons on the road on Tuesday.
Despite constant double teams, Fredette finished with a game-high 41 points while shooting better than 50 percent from the field for the first time in six games. The former BYU guard connected on 15 of 29 shots from the floor, including 7-for-13 from 3-point land and 4-for-4 from the free-throw line. He added seven rebounds, three assists and a block in 42 minutes of action.


Fredette really got things going trailing by a point midway through the second quarter as he reeled off 11 quick points to help the Sharks regain the lead. He started it out by using a well-timed down screen to get some space before connecting on a deep three.


He added a tough runner in transition before going back to work from outside. He hit threes on back-to-back possessions as the Sharks opened up a nine-point cushion. The first came in transition when he pulled up on the left-wing and drilled a 26-footer. He followed that up with a slick crossover to shake a double team before knocking down another left-wing three.


The Sharks never trailed from that point on as Fredette continued his hot shooting to propel them to the important win.

While the hype hasn’t been as big as his first year in the league, Fredette may have actually had a better individual season this time around as he led the Sharks to the playoffs in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 2002.

After all, he averaged more points on better shooting from beyond the arc and from the foul line. He also averaging more assists and more steals while committing fewer turnovers and fouls.

Led the league and set a new team record with 203 3-point makes. He also led the league in average three’s per game with 5.3.

More than seven years after his final game in Provo, he's at it again.

Leading almost the entire way, the team led by former BYU star Jimmer Fredette rolled to an easier-than-expected 100-78 win over an Ohio State-based team known as Scarlet & Gray in a TBT quarterfinal game at Georgia State University’s Sports Arena in Atlanta.

“We knew a better start [than three previous games] was important, especially against this team,” Fredette said. “We knew that if we got down in a hole, in would be really tough to get back.”


Fredette scored 28 points on 10-of-17 shooting and former Utah Jazz center Jack Cooley added 16 points and eight rebounds as Team Fredette silenced former Buckeyes Aaron Craft, Jared Sullinger and Greg Oden.

The victory pushed Team Fredette into the semifinals in Baltimore on Thursday. It will play the winner of Team Challenge ALS and Eberlein Drive at The Fieldhouse on the campus of Morgan State University.

Team Fredette took a 21-17 lead into the second quarter after Jimmer made a jumper to beat the first-quarter buzzer, and had a 51-40 lead at halftime.

The BYU-based team that also features former Cougars Brandon Davies and Charles Abouo led by as many as 23 points in the second half.

“We played together and shared the ball,” Fredette told ESPN. “That’s what we try to do. We got all these guys for a reason. These guys can play.”

Cooley was a late addition to the team, first joining it for a Super 16 game last Friday.

“We controlled the whole game,” Fredette said. “Jack down low, Brandon down low, [they] controlled the boards, got out in transition, and were able to make shots. … It was a whole team effort.”

Jimmer played efficiently against a defensive scheme designed to throw defenders at him or otherwise smother him; he was still hot in the fourth when the team needed to comeback. The team was too complacent in the rest the game. They beat at least two better teams before that, imo.

I dunno if any NBA team gonna sign Jimmer or not. NBA GMs are averse to a spotlight. Many would not sign Jimmer even if they thought the team would be better.
