I don't see how that is radically reinventing anything.

Great, a more expensive remote for my two-year-old to smash. Besides, my firestick can already do all that shit.

No stand alone smart functions? No tuner?
No thanks.
Updates will be easier up to the limits of the tablet I guess, but why not just have a Chromecast in the first place?

What if you break or lose the tablet? Does their front end run on any Android device?

They actually make a very good TV for the price.

that's an interesting question. I can control my apple tv with the siri remote, my phone, or my iPad, any device with the remote app installed. It would be kinda pointless if they gave the app away for free though.

Can we all agree that Smart TV user interfaces suck?

What if you break or lose the tablet? Does their front end run on any Android device?Very good question. The only real advantage is if it does run on any Android tablet and it makes the upgrade cycle more open ended than regular smart TVs.

http://thewirecutter.com/reviews/the-best-500-tv/I was thisclose to buying a Vizio 4k and Roku 4 to watch Daredevil this time around.
I too prefer regular TV+streaming device.

But even with something like a Roku, typing in text for a search sucks. That's why the UI on the mobile device makes sense. I also agree on the easier upgrade path.
With my Samsung Note, I can turn on screen mirroring. Wonder if this could do the same?
A lot of times, I use Time Warner app on my iPad mini. Much faster to navigate than their onscreen guide.

I guess Vizio just took the next logical step and put all the smart functions on the tablet. It's not the worst idea if the tablet can be upgraded down the line. Everything is really dependent on having good wifi tho. I like having the Roku hard wired.
Screen mirroring is nice, but never got out of beta on my Roku 3. Don't know what the holdup is.

Agree on the strong wifi. I've got 3 Roku's, only one of them ward-wired. Noticeable difference.

Typing with my Roku remote is one of the worst aspects of life. Gotta use the app on my phone to stay sane.
