Just realized that we didn't have one yet so I figured we'd get it started...

Thoughts on the Desmond signing (I know it's old news)? I live in DC so I was able to see him play a lot here over the past few years, and I actually think that he will play well in Texas. Dude has crazy athleticism, so I don't think that OF will be that hard for him. Also, I think that the Ballpark works better for his bat than Nats Park did...

When does Darvish come back?

When does Darvish come back?

Probably sometime in June if rehab all goes according to plan. And all the reports out of spring training are that he's progressing really well.

It's been a real tough stretch offensively. The pitching has actually been decent, with the starter throwing a quality start almost every game (I think Holland's first start was the only one that wasn't). If the bats could start up this would be a pretty good team.

Desmond is starting to turn it on, Mazara, Andrus, and Beltre are all hitting well, but everyone else has been a no-show.

Chris
04-29-2016, 11:01 PM
nice little run we're on. Hambone and Darvish should be back relatively soon

Robz4000
04-30-2016, 01:47 AM
Getting Darvish back will be nice. Hamilton will be fine as a U/PH but in any other capacity he can take a hike.

Robz4000
04-30-2016, 01:49 AM
In all honesty though depending on how Yu looks and what the record is in 6 weeks, I'd be fine moving Darvish while his stock is still high. Just make sure to pick up another two quality pitchers along the way.

Still a faggot move by the Rangers to wait until 7 games in to send a new pitcher to hit him @ his last at bat. 2011 WS and last season was thoroughly deserved, tbh.

Yeah, I don't understand that either. Don't even understand the retaliation either tbh. G5 was emotionally charged for both sides; if the Rangers had hit the game-sealing homer they would've done something similar. Still, Bautista was salty as fuck afterwards; you got BTFO, just accept it.

Getting salty about bat flips is pretty lame to begin with. Bautista hit a huge series winning homer in one of the craziest innings in baseball history. You can't expect him to just round the bases like an emotionless robot. And it's not like he was taunting the pitcher or anybody on the Rangers. All the "unwritten code" of baseball is retarded. If you don't want someone celebrating home runs, don't give him a shitty pitch that he crushes 500 ft.

That said, seeing him get clocked like that was still pretty awesome.

Robz4000

Really?
Odds he was Jonesing huge time for some more painkillers?
Not making fun of his addiction. Am making fun of his coward ass taking salary from the Angels. And Rangers if he rigged the injury.
It happens. Painkiller, alch and other addicts will injure themselves just enough to get back on Dr. prescribed meds.
Hamilton profile? High probability.

Mazara is gonna be a monster in a few years. I gotta hand it to Daniels, I wasn't a fan of his a few years ago (still hate some of his trades) but he really helped the team find good young talent. Future is bright.

It's hard not to hate the Kinsler/Fielder trade. Kinsler's clearly the superior player at this point. But the good news from it all is Odor got his chance and blew up overnight. With Profar we have two guys who can play 2nd base at a high level. I'd still take Kinsler over Fielder today.

Chris
08-01-2016, 04:43 PM
From a Brewers fan on facebook:

"Brewers fan here and congratulations on the acquisition of Jonathan Lucroy and Jeremy Jeffress. As you all know, these 2 guys will make an immediate impact as well as your pickup of Beltran. Lucroy is going to fit absolutely perfect in your ballpark and get ready for clutch-hitting and HRs. This guy as you all know, you don't run on this guy either..he possesses an arm that will stop anyone stealing a base as well as his backstop ability is incredible. He's blocked so many pitches for us, it's incredible. Sorry I'm not sure if he's still with your team, but you might want to consider bringing back Kyle Lohse back up, these 2 had a great chemistry. Lucroy is a very positive guy too, great clubhouse guy.

Jeremy Jeffress..this guy was on his 2nd time with us and all I can say is positive things about him. He turned his life around which made him a better pitcher and as you may know, he only blew one save this year. He's been very, very dependable, he may make things interesting sometimes but he usually gets out of it. A great guy to use in the 8th or close if you all do that."

RGMCSE
08-01-2016, 04:45 PM
so our pitching is in the tank and we trade away our number 1 and number 3 overall prospects who are pitchers. One of them who is projected to be a no less than 3 on a starting pitching rotation in Luis Ortiz? Wtf!?!? I swear my whole life the rangers have developed monster sluggers but now can't find one in their own system so they have to trade their most promising pitching prospects. Damn better win the fucking series this year.

They still have no pitching. Last year they were getting contributions that may prove similar to what they get this year, but their pitching let them down. Think it might be a similar fate this year if someone doesn't step up behind Hamels and Darvish (if he even gets to that level again this year).

Findog
08-01-2016, 10:37 PM
Playoff rotation is likely gonna be Hamels, Yu, Colby and Perez. Pretty deep bullpen now for Colby and Perez's starts in October. I don't buy the argument that they don't have enough pitching. Bullpen's getting a night off for Cole and Yu's starts.

Darvish hasn't shown the ability to stay healthy in four seasons (same with Lewis for that matter), which means the only dependable pitcher is Hamels. That is nowhere near enough firepower to beat the likes of Cleveland, Boston, Toronto, or Baltimore, much less the beasts from the NL unless a few others step up.

Darvish averaged 30 starts his first two seasons and the Rangers shut him down early in 2014 because their season was over well before September, so I don't know where you get this idea that Darvish has never been able to stay healthy. Colby averaged 31 starts his last two seasons. I don't know where you get this idea that Colby isn't dependable either.

They need those two to stay healthy for 2.5 months. The possibility that they might not be available for the stretch run and playoffs is a concern, but if October rolls around and that's their four-man rotation with Holland going to the bullpen, they are as well-positioned as any team to win a title.

Darvish has had problems staying healthy since he started in the majors. They shut him down because of that trend, and sure enough he required Tommy John surgery the next season. As for Colby, his entire career has been injury-plagued. Just because he had a year stretch where he avoided anything serious doesn't mean much, especially with him being older. I'm actually more confident in Holland finding his old form more than Colby holding up (though I'd be happy as hell to be proved wrong).

The fact of the matter is the Rangers had the chance to better their starting pitching both now and for the future by moving one of their young guns (of which they have plenty) but didn't. At the very least the tried but nothing came from it. I just hope it wasn't due to being unwilling to move someone they'll barely be able to play this year or next.

A lot of their one-run wins are come-from-behind wins where the bullpen sans Bush/Dyson actually shat the bed in the 8th/9th and the offense carried them to the W; not much luck is needed to win in those situations when batters 1-9 are all significant threats. Dyson and Bush have shown enough to where I can trust them in the postseason as long as the offense stays potent. Just need to hope Bannister stops insisting on playing the other mediocre relievers too much.

Not so confident in the pitching right now, although we do have Colby coming back soon. Who's to say he can pitch at that level again? Holland looked good his last start but has been inconsistent all season along with Perez. Our closer (Dyson) can be scary at times, but I like our bullpen. If a SP is having an off day Claudio can come in and eat up a lot of innings. Our offense looks great despite losing Choo and Fielder for most of the season. I'm confident they can get to the World Series and beat any team from the NL, but our pitching is going to be our ticket as usual.

They can beat anyone in the AL but the NL will prove to be trouble, especially when the Giants go into September/October mode and MadBum is unleashed on us all.

Skosha was grasping at straws imo He's had a terrible season and I think he hit his boiling point last night. He was talking shit to our 3rd base coach for some reason and it escalated from there.

In postie interview he claims it started with an Angel infielder having his foot in the way of a sliding Ranger. Ranger claimed the placement of the foot caused him to have to slide around and thus got tagged out. I guess other option was spike Angel lol.

Anywho Skosha claims the called-out Ranger said "I'm gonna get you" on his way back to the dugout. Next time up, 97 mph fastball goes whizzing behind the head of Angel Foot Infielder. This all per Skosha.

Skosha claims
a. Infielder did not improperly block bag, allowed access and that Ranger Runner was simply out.
b. If, if you're gonna throw at someone don't make it 97 mph and sure as hell don't throw at a guys head.

I'd like to see replays of it all. Angels network is pay for play in San Diego, as if our going to a game hinges on tv or not. Owner Moreno. :rolleyes

They deserved it after they were spouting some kind of righteous vindication for Bautista getting punked earlier in the season. Sure Odor could have handled it with more class and poise. This rivalry could last a long time.
