Four albatrosses, in that order, stand in the way of an unprecedented perfect home record.

Who do we lose to?

None of them, we will protect our house. Hopefully the Dubs will have their precious record in hand and not even try, because if they try and fail it might be in their heads

I secretly don't want to lose to the Craptors no matter what because I don't want the sting of being swept by them if we do win the championship, assuming we've beaten the Cavs and not them.

Kind of like the Knicks in 2003 and (especially) the Rockets in 2014, we caught a huge break with the lucky Lillard shot that year

2005 was nice because we beat every team at least once (and at least once in our building).

So you don't want the Spurs to be inside the Dubs heads?

and we'd end the season 1 game behind the Dubs with the Pelicans loss ultimately costing us 1 seed.

Was talking about GSW. You said, "get the record before [GSW] takes it." GSW will take it before we play them in Oracle on April 9th.

I don't want to lose both times to the Craptors... I don't want 70000 Doughnut-eating Canadians screaming up and down they should have been champions because they swept the eventual champs in the regular season and, say, got a bad call at the end of a Game 7 in the ECF against Cleveland.

It doesn't matter what you want. Pop will most likely rest players that game and proceed to treat it as a glorified scrimmage like tonight. We won't see Poo start getting serious again until potentially the Dubs game, or even until the first round when the Spurs get a basic first-round bye to start getting players' attention refocused.

Pelicans were a given. Toronto may be slight favorites if we rest players. GS will play everyone. OKC may be in rest mode like us.

Since we have 2 full days in between games and no travel, I doubt we rest anybody against Toronto.

I wouldn't be terribly surprised if the Spurs lost all remaining 3 tbh. Toronto has plenty still to play for, GSW has openly admitted they care enough about winning 73 games that they'll throw everything at the Spurs, and unless OKC goes into safe mode with that 3 seed basically locked up, who knows.

It would be a nice accolade, but it won't happen. Nobody within the Spurs organization cares enough. All that matters to PATFO and the players is a sixth title before the Duncan era ends.

Re: Your Toronto concern - do you really dedicate any measurable amount of time at all to a hypothetical scenario involving what a bunch of people in Toronto may or may not be thinking in a world in which the Raps win the season series 2-0 but the Spurs win the championship?

Spurs are only the 12th team in NBA history to get to 38 home wins in a single regular season:

1 BOS 1985-86 41 40 1 .976

2 BOS 1986-87 41 39 2 .951
3 ORL 1994-95 41 39 2 .951
4 CHI 1995-96 41 39 2 .951
5 CHI 1996-97 41 39 2 .951
6 CLE 2008-09 41 39 2 .951
7 GSW 2014-15 41 39 2 .951

8 SEA 1995-96 41 38 3 .927
9 UTA 1996-97 41 38 3 .927
10 SAS 2004-05 41 38 3 .927
11 DEN 2012-13 41 38 3 .927
12 SAS 2015-16 38 38 0 1.000

In a combined regular season + playoffs, things start getting special when you get to 47 combined wins. Only 13 teams in history have gotten there.

1 BOS 1985-86 51 50 1 .980
2 BOS 1986-87 54 50 4 .926

3 CHI 1995-96 51 49 2 .961

It would be painful to be swept by a borderline contender like that and always have that *we won the championship but maybe weren't really the best* sting associated with the title. Not the same as, say, losing both to the Knicks in 2003 or that year we lost both to the Bobcats (?) and won the title. They didn't make the playoffs and we lost both those because we just didn't give a fuck, not because they truly beat us.

However, it's also kind of why I was pissed when the Lillard shot went in. A little bit of a tainting that few remember today, but we did luck out by dodging the Rockets who had our number. Kind of like dodging the Mavs in 2007 (they only beat us 3 out of 4, but our one win over them was the very first game of the season when they had injuries and lost their first 4 before winning 67 of their last 78 games). I preferred the 2003 and 2005 runs where we beat everyone relevant at least once + everyone relevant in the West at least twice (counting regular season and playoffs).
