29 San Antonio Spurs

Cornelie’s perimeter game is something San Antonio is always looking for in their big man, and he has some defensive potential down the line.

29. San Antonio Spurs PF Petr Cornelie, France

The Spurs will likely opt for cap flexibility and a future producer, meaning we'll probably see them going foreign once again. Tim Duncan is quickly diminishing, meaning his time is likely up after next season if not this year. Cornelie, even if he stays over seas this year, could add some frontcourt depth alongside last year's draft pick (Nikola Mulintinov) that could inevitably aid in filling the void. Cornelie's skillset should mesh fairly well with Popovich's system as well, as he's highly mobile and shoots the ball extremely well from outside. With Cornelie's length and shooting touch, his upside is fairly high in a developmental system as consistently effective as San Antonio's, while his immediate offensive impact as an extra floor spacer and underrated touch passer underneath are added bonuses. On the defensive end, there's certainly room to grow given his somewhat thin build and developing sense of awareness, but he possesses the mobility and athletic traits of somebody capable of playing both sides of the ball at a high level eventually. San Antonio always seems to thrive when going international, and Cornelie makes the most sense at 29.

29. San Antonio -- Petr Conelie, F, International

The 7-foot Frenchman is a "stretch 4" who isn't ready to contribute at the NBA level right now. But considering the Spurs aren't getting any younger, Cornelie would be a nice addition in another year or two.

The next Boris Diaw? No, not at all. But the Spurs get a long, athletic big man here who fits with the Spurs international flair.

PETR CORNELIE, FRANCE

Imagine a spin-off of John Henson, but instead of shot blocking, he shoots threes at 40% as 19 year-old. He needs to add strength, but as a giant stretch four, he seems like exactly the type of draft pick who could haunt the league in San Antonio four years from now.

29. San Antonio Spurs: Petr Cornelie (France, PF, 1995)

The San Antonio Spurs should opt to draft-and-stash Petr Cornelie, a stretch 4 who shoots 39.3 percent from three in LNB Pro A, France's top league.

Cornelie's blend of 6'11" size, fluidity and shooting is no doubt NBA-friendly. But he isn't the strongest around the basket and doesn't project as a shot-creator. Still, there is obvious value tied to his strengths, particularly his ability to space the floor.

Nobody at No. 29 is coming in next year and making an impact in San Antonio, especially on such a perennially deep roster. Cornelie's signature skill (shooting) could make him a late-round steal by 2018.

Players do not need strength in today's NBA. They just need to be able to shoot free throws, and the three.

New quote:

He was a bit inconsistent at the Adidas Eurocamp this weekend, but his size, length, shooting ability and upside make him a more than worthy player to be drafted in the latter stages of the first round.
