Saw this on Reddit, kind of interesting. Not against Kawhi, but more so interesting to see some of the names, and try to imagine how they actually scored that many points. Manu never broke that 50 pt. barrier... 6th man life.

I think Kawhi will crack the 40 point mark atleast once in his career. I think it will be hard for him to hit 50 but you never know. Keep in mind Scottie Pippen's career high is only 47 points and that's the guy people compare Kawhi to.

PopTheGOAT
03-29-2016, 12:46 AM
Kawhi would have several 40+ games this season if this wasn't the Spurs. I like the way he plays within the system, it just sucks when he gets shit on for not having the individual accolades. Hell, he would've scored 40+ easily on the Heat the other night if he didn't get banged up. Too bad. Idc really what his career high is but I wish he'd have a big game so people would stfu about it already.

cjw
03-29-2016, 12:55 AM
How many times did he have high point totals before being shut down with low to mid 20 minutes played? Just like Aldridge getting to 20 points very quickly in recent games but not being needed down stretch.

Would be interesting to see how many of those high point games above were in blowouts where guys continued playing, or where other players were out.

This season has been an anomaly - too many blowouts, even in losses, thus Pop throwing the 3rd unit there for long periods of time.

Next season I think Kawhi will have at least 5 40+ point games.

Easily one of my favorite Manu games. That dunk down the middle of the lane on 3 or 4 dudes was awesome.

Now filter that list for the ones who are half the defensive stopper that Kawhi is.

What's the rule for dealing with a volume scorer? Anyone? Beuller? Force him to play both ends of the court!!!

Kawhi never hides on defense. He's busting his ass every play, shutting down the other team's best. Most of those guys would be half the scorers they are, if they even attempted to put out that kind of effort on the other end. Kawhi gives the team what it needs, and his defense is worth points just as surely as a made bucket. That's not being a homer, it's just basketball fact.

Shame they don't have a good stat for that.

Two most interesting take aways for me from the list.

1. Igoudala's high is only 34? That guy used to be the man in Philly, people were comparing him to Lebron.

2. How the hell did Nick Young score 43? That makes no sense.

Never seen people more butt-hurt from a damned list.

It's amazing how defensive some people get :lol No one is implying those guys are better players than Kawhi. It's just an interesting list that's mostly cool because it highlights some random players who you'd never expect to score 35+.

Hell, there's even a disclaimer in the reddit post (along with OP's disclaimer): *Note: This isn't meant to be a dig at Kawhi. I'm a big Kawhi fan, but I just thought some of the players' career-highs here were interesting.

I confess. I saw the list and went blind. Sort of like those page-long posts with no punctuation or paragraph breaks. I go into immediate mental-summary mode. I didn't see the disclaimer, and assumed it was some comment on the fact that Kawhi's best is "only" 32 points.

I stand by the fact that not many people have scored more than that while playing high-level defense on the other end. Kobe was capable of being a pretty damned good defender, but it took a toll on him on the offensive end. Mostly, when guys have huge nights, it's in a game that doesn't feature much defense. And Kawhi never takes a night off from defense, no matter who they Spurs are playing.
