I'm not so sure I like this. I get wanting to rest players. But I would want all of the Spurs to get some time in the games just so they can become more familiar with GS. It cuts both ways imo. And the "not showing your hand" is overrated I think.

It'd be pretty funny... Do what we did to them last game, and not give them a chance to try to counter. But, I agree.. Especially the home game.. We should not rest all our guys.

I'm with the "play them but less time and take it easy" crowd.
I expect Pop to not try too hard to keep the home record though.
The article written about this also seems to suggest the Spurs will have some players not travel anymore until the playoffs, which could mean they'll try harder at home.

At the end of the day I hope Pop knows, with all his experience, how to balance rest and rhythm.

Seems like if the Warriors keep winning every game they will have broken the Bulls record by April 10th.
But even then, they might want to pass it by more than 1 game.

I don't give a shit about the rest of the games or losing against GSW because the Spurs secured the #2 seed.

But Pop should show some respect to the Spurs fans who have bought AT&T tickets for that game.

Damn...It's a fucking home game!!! Limit their minutes but...Don't rest your players Pop!

Everyone saying to only rest players on the road must be from San Antonio. Because out of state fans sometimes travel hours on end to see the Spurs and if Pop sits them it sucks because depending on the city Spurs only come once a year. Why are hometown fans more valuable then out of state ones?

K...
03-30-2016, 03:11 PM
Would be still have an undefeated home record if we forfeit (resting everyone) cuz if so I'm cool. Both teams undefeated at home, but the warriors more undefeated, just like both teams are championship talent, but the warriors actual champions

They aren't.
The Spurs have a great fanbase in many other cities, you can hear GoSpursGo chant in every NBA arena, they're amazing Spurs fans.

But the Spurs make more money in home games than in road games. If hometown fans give the team part of that money, just be respectful to them.

They barely beat a Dubs team missing half their roster at home on the 6th game in 9 days, obviously they dont want an even strength game like the 1st time these teams met

:lol it has nothing to do with showing your hands, it has all to do with rest... number 2 in the west is a lock, GS at number is a lock.... no need to play more than you need. Give as much as rest as possible to tony, manu, tim and boris tbh before the POs. It is just common sense knowing their ages and mileage.

If you play there and one of them suffer an injury we would never hear the end of it from fans

Spurs9
03-30-2016, 03:49 PM
We don't need to really play them seriously the last 2 games. They beat us and we beat them last time. Theres 0 reason why we need to play them seriously in regular season. We have beat them before in the past, they aren't some unstoppable team, they are beatable. Pop can experiment non starters against them, because Warriors probably won't rest starts in either games against us. Records of wins at home or beating regular season record mean nothing tbh. If you achieve undeafted at home or best record ever, and lose in the finals what does it amount to? :lol Let warriors burn themselves out. They aren't having a cake walk in the first 2 rounds with every team going at them trying to bang them up. I'll worry about Warriors in the ECF tbh, I'm not worried about starters performing. They got to get everyone else up on pace, which we have plenty of opportunity fine tuning them the rest games of the season.

i expect spurs to rest most in golden state.

Warriors aren't going to rest players rest of the season against us tbh. Even if we play our bench, they will play starters. They can only lose 2 more games, and they are trying everything to beat record. If they rest Curry/Klay in a game against us, I'll take us easily over them tbh even missing most of our starters.

Spurs figured out defensive schemes they could throw at the Warriors the last game. There is no need to give the Warriors a chance to adjust to those schemes. I perfectly fine with tanking the next two match ups with the Warriors.

Pop knows his team is mentally weak. It's better to play your best against weak competition and look good rather than play against better competition and get face bombed. Too bad, this team could really use the push especially on the road where they've been less than stellar against elite competition. I'm not sure how playing against scrub competition is going to prepare them for the playoffs.

So your best bet is hoping Kerr isn't smart enough to make adjustments and praying the Warriors miss all the three's they normally make 4 times in a 7 game series. Good luck with that.

Budkin
03-30-2016, 05:37 PM
Realistically our chances of beating them in a 7 game series with no home court is probably pretty low. I understand not wanting to give anything away. If we could steal just one game it would be huge.

Majority of those 3's were contested in that game and they were only a few open 3's the Warriors got. I expect the Warriors outside of Curry to continue to miss the majority of contested 3's. Both teams will make adjustments as the series progresses. Might as well not give the Warriors any time to adjust and prepare for what the Spurs will throw at them.

The way I see a 7 game series playing out with the Warriors is that if the Warriors win the series they will sweep or take out the Spurs in 5 games. If the Spurs beat the Warriors it will be in 6 or 7 games. If the Spurs are tied 2-2 after 4 games they will beat the Warriors. By then the Spurs will have figured out the Warriors and I think the Warriors confidence would be shot. So it really comes down to the spurs breaking even in the first 4 games of the series.

A very good point... and beyond that if even one if these roleplayers show you a possible wrinkle in one of these games you can use, you take that guy I out and press the save button. That would effectively be tanking these games.

We go as far as Kawhi and LMA takes us but like in so many series sometimes schemes are devised to take away option 1 and option 2 or 3 even. It might be a roleplayer having a good game which takes them by surprise and helps us steal one. :tu

Agrees 100%. I will always, forever and ever, hold a grudge against Popabitch for stealing ~$70 from my mom and I when I went to that Nuggets home game at the end of the 2006-07 season that we had bought so far in advance and had no idea that zit face would punt that one at home and deny me of the only opportunity I had that year to see Tim/Tony/Manu. Of course the Nuggets won by 20+ and I didn't get a refund even though my mom called and asked for one. Fuck Popabitch for that one, I was pissed and earnestly rooting for the Nuggets/Suns in the playoffs to beat the Spurs that year and to this day that remains my least favorite title run... by far (for many reasons, but that's a huge one). I wanted Nash to get a ring that year and hated Stern for the BS suspension crap, but oh well.

That Hornet chokejob really hurts as we could have still had a realistic shot at 1 seed with both games against the Dubs being games to start your guys for with high stakes. Just a horrible, horrible loss that could end up defining the season if things don't go our way.

doubt it, Dubs would have had to lose another game and Spurs would still have had to win out. Main thing is that loss killed our 70 win opportunity but it's whatever.

Dubs play the Celtics in a few days and that's no gimme. They're trying to get home court in the first round. And the Dubs are still without Iguodola. They had a tough time with the Wizards last night. Playing at full strength and playing our A game, there's no reason to think we couldn't have won out in that scenario. Oh well...

I can get why people might be upset at Pop resting, but if any fans should know about this, it's Spurs fans. Should not be a surprise at all.

Also, if/when SA makes a nice PO run, people won't remember this and will appreciate what Pop did. His job is to win games not please fans. Them winning a lot does please fans and it's really hard to argue with the results.
