View Full Version : Are the final two games vs GSW now "must wins"?

Perhaps not in the traditional playoff sense, but since they lost to Minny last night the Spurs are now in a position to spoil their historic run. What will history say about the Spurs if they manage to not only spoil GSWs run at regular season glory, but also their run at playoff glory?

Thoughts?

I wouldn't say they are "must win", but it would nice to have both going into the playoffs. The way the schedule is playing out, Pop will probably play everyone both of those games. That last game against GSW might be the last regular season game for the Big 3.

I'd rest everybody, call up the D league and let them get the hollow victory in Oakland.

No way, for the spurs. The warriors will have to decide if they want to go all out for this.

Uh. Spurs should play to win both games. They still have a very real shot at 1st seed if warriors are gonna start losing to the likes of the Timberwolves

Their last 4 games are against the Spurs and Memphis.

Seriously? And you consider yourselves spursfans?

Pop will play the guys in Oakland but will bullshit the game so much unless worriers choke hard they win. Well also be resting our guys in San Antonio. Pop has shut us down for the season. Come on now.

Would be nice. Stop them for getting 73 and get 73 yourself in future seasons. Best record ever belongs to the spurs.

No.

Pop will try and go 41-0 at home. I believe Duncan wants it. It would be a nice record to have considering all the other records the Spurs hold. So Pop more than likely will rest everyone on Thursday, play them Friday and go for the win on Sunday.

Spurs aren't getting HC advantage over GS. But the good thing is, teams are starting to figure GS out. They are 22-5 since the All-star break. They could have easily lost 4-5 more w/ 3 more games going into OT and 2-3 they had to comeback in the 4th quarters as well.

Spurs should have beaten the Hornets. If the Spurs won that game, I believe Pop would be going for the #1 seed. That loss doom the Spurs from getting it.

.

I'd kind of prefer to see Pop do the opposite and go for the win on Thursday, then watch to see if Memphis can steal one. Although that scenario is somewhat unlikely, it would set up the opportunity for SA to go 41-0 at home AND get HCA throughout the playoffs. If SA or Memphis lose, however, I'm fine with Pop resting the starters at home.

If the Warriors had one more loss, meaning that the Spurs could get #1 by winning out, I think Pop would go for it. But since getting #1 means the Warriors losing to Memphis at least once, I don't think Pop will take that chance. Worst case: Pop plays the big guns heavy minutes both times against GS and still doesn't get the #1 seed.

As long as the Spurs are within striking distance of the 1 seed (i.e., they don't blow any games), they should try to win these. Very unlikely that GS loses to Memphis, but strange things happen.

:lmao if any of these 2 teams sustain injuries by playing too much these meaningless games :lol

I think they need some sharpness at this point as much as rest. I'd play the healthy players on Thursday (@GSW). Rest the old ones on Friday (@Denver). Play the healthy players on Saturday (vs GSW). Play everyone healthy at least the first half against OKC at home, and then rest players at Dallas. (The OKC home game is a B2B, THIGAFONI, and game #82 for OKC, so they may be resting players with the 3 seed locked up.)

Pop will fuck you over on the hardest of ways.

I am thinking, close game vs the Warriors away from home and a Parker-Green-Anderson-Diaw-Duncan lineup to close that game... L

meh too late to snatch HC...Should go for the home game..41-0 is nice thing to have..i expect the Thunder to keep starters at home for their final game against us which is also a second night of the B2B for them...they have nothing to play for and we may even get W while resting ourselves...

A lot of you are acting like Memphis has no chance. They do. If we win both and Memphis wins one , WE ARE NUMBER 1. We have to go for it. Pop can rest guys last game anyway. Enough with this nonsense, all it takes is win both games and Randolph and Barnes beating the crap out of mouthpiece

They're not must wins...but in my mind you try to win every game. I'm not a huge fan of sitting all your guys against the top teams. That being said, I'd rather have Golden State get the win record, be the greatest regular season champs of all time, and lose to the Spurs in the playoffs...that would be far better than the Spurs grabbing a couple of regular season wins. Let GS come into the playoffs listening to the hype and be over-confident. As someone else said, beat them at their place to open the series and inflict all kinds of doubt.

Don't forget the Spurs also play OkC and Dallas. The Dallas game may decide whether the Mavs even qualify for the playoffs.
