I want Bonner as retired as anyone, but I have to accept that he was instrumental in the 2014 WCF series vs OKC. As of now, Bogut will start which means the Spurs will use their normal starting lineup. But once the coaches start to substitute players and the lineups become smaller, could it be Bonner the one who will take the reins and lead us to victory today?

I doubt it. But that would be epic.

I don't think Bonner will play more then 6 minutes because CIA Pop likes to keep his secret weapons hidden until the playoffs.

First unit:
Duncan/Aldridge/Leonard/Green/Parker

Second unit:
West/Anderson/Green/Ginobili/Mills

Danny will get subbed out early on for Manu, and will play with the second unit. Kyle will play stretch 4, IMO.

um whut?

Whut?

3 things that helped win that Series:

1) Ibaka's -not walking through those doors- injury
2) CoJo's dunk/Tony's injury
3) Pop subbing an ineffective Tiago for Bonner in the last 2 games.

Bonner "stretching the floor" against OKC has to be the biggest lie in ST history :lol

Diaw should throw his hot coffee at anyone who says that stupidity

^except it did happen. It pulled Serge from the basket, opening up the paint a bit.

I don't think he plays more than he did against Utah. Bobo minutes went to a mix of Dwest/Anderson. The stretch we had Bonner out there we got killed. It can't be helped we need some minutes from him, but no more than 6-8. Unless Pop is tanking the game, then it doesn't matter.

That's a bullshit myth that I'll never stop correcting. Diaw getting extended minutes and closing games was the REAL difference maker. Bonner barely averaged over 14 minutes a game those last two games.

I remember the news that Bonner was starting Game 5 of that series and thinking that we were fucked but damn if he didn't help out just a little bit.

And Splitter still got minutes, and was more effective than Bonner.

The legend lives on.

His zero points, zero rebounds, zero assists, zero steals, zero blocks and two turnovers were instrumental in that 28-point win.

It's fine. I understand and share the frustration and fear that goes with Pop putting him into games.

You're not wrong in your evaluation anyway. The bar is now so low that if he doesn't actively fuck anything up it's considered contributing. Only two turnovers!

If having to "accept that he was instrumental" in a playoff win is considered right, then I guess I'll live with being wrong. :lol

Has Boban played in either games against GS? I'd like to see a West-Boban pairing, although it's highly unlikely

Pop's use of Diaw in those playoffs was, for me, the single best coaching adjustment I've ever seen. Boris wound up leading the team in AST's in the Finals. He was an incredible difference-maker in that Championship run.

But Bonner? I guess you could say that he didn't fuck things up, which is pretty good. You know... for Bonner in the playoffs.

Bonner is unplayable against GS. Bigs should be mobile enough to be able to switch on pick and rolls.

Pop inserting Diaw into the starting lineup in the 2014 Finals was brilliant. Miami had no answer. Three straight blowout wins for the Spurs and #5.

I'd like to see the regular Spurs start and build up a 7-10 point lead in the 1st half, then have Pop pull them all out.

Didn't Bonner have a 23/12 at Oracle a few years back?

Still, this is a bad matchup for Duncan so it's a horrible one for Bonner. Not that there are many good ones for Bonner.

The ONLY reason Bonner is on the squad is b/c he's the designated "players' rep" (NOBODY wants that job....NOBODY!)

Traditionally speaking, this is the one thing bonner used to actually do okay on. When switched off on guards he always did a commendable job keeping the guard in front of him. Many years back he was the only big one year who actually kept nash from getting into the paint.

He was always fundamentally sound on defense. He might have gotten torched alot. But he did what he could. Hard for a 6'8 white guy with no real athlwticism and t rex arms to be a good defender and rebounder.
