View Full Version : Kobe/ESPN take shot at Spurs for resting
Keepin' it real

On Mike and Mike today, they played a Kobe soundbite in which he said resting players takes away from the culture and spirit of the game. He said Phil didn't like that approach, so Kobe and Shaq always played, and so did Michael and Scottie.
During the soundbite, ESPN showed footage of Tim and other Spurs in street clothes on the bench.

LOL at Kobe talking about the spirit of the game.
Greenie had a fairly long segment today comparing Duncan and Kobe and basically blaming Kobe for the Lakers current situation.

In other news: the Lakers have set yesterday night their franchise record for most losses in a season (62). And counting.

oh yeah...that was the other point Mike G was making. There haven't been any other "superstars" that were on a team and had such a bad record. I think Jordan had the lowest win total with 37 at Washington. Duncan's lowest total (non-strike) was 50. Magic's was 53.

Yet Bumani Jones wouldn't call it a criticism of Kobe, just an"oddity." Sounds like another Kobe apologist. Surprising, I thought Jones was above that.

Shaq and Kobe always played...
And Shaq was done sooner than he should have been. Kobe fought injuries the last several years of his career. Meanwhile, Duncan was winning a ring in 2014, is currently playing for a 65 win (and counting) team, and will be gunning for a 6th ring at age 40. All while Kobe is having his retirement tour on a 60 plus loss team. Yeah, Phil was right about that one. :lol

Was this a recent sound bite? If so, then :lmao at Kobe talking about Phil and Shaq. Loser.
I don't remember anyone from the Spurs resting back when Kobe and Shaq were together anyway. Pop rested players to throw a wrench into the dynamic ticket pricing system, which scheduled the Spurs against teams like the Heatles at the end of a long road trip to help ensure a nationally televised win for their money teams.
The Lakers were fined more than once for resting players at the end of regular seasons.

If Kobe had rested he would've had lasted more and avoided more crippling of his team.
I understand the point of people seeing the stars they want to see. But the Spurs are resting more now due to age.
Kobe instead decided it was good to play with broken fingers and bad ankles at 30+ years of age.
He could've used some Pop resting.

Make your team competitive, and the Spurs wouldn't be able to rest players.
We can rest players, cuz your team(s) suck so bad we don't have to play them. We don't have anyone even close to us for the 2nd spot, why shouldn't we rest?
Get your teams better then force us to play you. Otherwise, stfu. lol

Interesting take from a player who obviously hamstrung his team by commanding a King's ransom. Add his selfishness to the mix, i.e. taking the majority of shots on his team while shooting an abysmal FG% and you have a player that has NO room to speak about the spirit of the game. Ridiculous.

Heh... sorry, I didn't think I needed to put that in blue. No, not real. But everyone knows that the Lakers have to finish with one of the 3 worst records in the league, or they lose their first-round pick in the draft. There has never been a more obvious tank job. The problem is, they're so damned bad, it's hard to be 100% sure when they are tanking, and when they're just getting bent over.

That may be true ... But
Greeny knows less about hoops than 75% of this forum.
He knows baseball and golf and is solid at interviews but for all the reasons Duncan is above Kobe ...Greeny and his opinions are not one of them.
(Golic is solid on college and pro football)
If you listen to him in the am I strongly suggest investing in SIRIUS if you can afford it.
Sportalk in San Antonio is shitty (is Mike Taylor still there?) and the eSPN national shows like M&M arent much better in the "take" department.
The only saving grace is M&M get the best guests. They are like the GMA of Sports simulcast shows ...
