Hayes also was involved in a high-profile lawsuit against the city of New Orleans for killing his father in a December 2005 shooting, Hayes' ex-attorney confirmed to the New Orleans Advocate (http://www.theneworleansadvocate.com/sports/saints/15448004-128/cardell-hayes-suspected-of-killing-former-saints-player-will-smith-sued-city-of-new-orleans-after-po) on Sunday. That case was settled out of court in 2011 for an undisclosed amount, according to the attorney.
In a bizarre twist, one of the defendants mentioned in that lawsuit — retired police officer Billy Ceravolo, who was accused by Hayes of shooting his father — had been dining with Smith and former Saints player Pierre Thomas shortly prior to Smith's death. Ceravolo told the Advocate he considered Smith and Thomas personal friends but that he was not at the scene of the shooting.
“Right now there’s no information to suggest that any of that had any reason or played any factor in the shooting,” Harrison said.
Harrison said the investigation continues, including of whether Smith and Hayes knew each other previously or whether this was just a coincidental homicide.

The orange Hummer H2's was the shooter's car. Nigga had some cash flow and nice wheels and his youth and threw it all away?

I kind of remember Will Smith. He was classy on a team that was dirty. Too often, it's the good ones that get it.

He would bring in teens and young men from the area and speak to them about resolving differences and avoiding violence.
"I hate that a good man who gave so much to his community lost his life," Haynes said. "It's rare to encounter men like Will who actually take action. And despite his setbacks, still be there for you."
It's a bitter irony that a rare leader has now become an example of how rare leaders truly are. One of his best friends, Zach Williams (http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaaf/players/247416/), remembered his last phone call with Smith, about what Smith hoped to do with an MBA – he was on track to earn the degree from the University of Miami this summer – and perhaps a law degree.
Williams remembers Smith as a creative thinker, at times a contrarian. "Always asking questions," he said. "Staying open."
Smith and his wife, Racquel, spent thousands of dollars every year on Christmas gifts for families,

Showbiz has a way of changing folks. I liked him best at around the time the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air transitioned from Aunt Viv-Janet Hubert to Aunt Viv-Daphne Mawell Reid, that was Will Smith's prime to me.

That city seems like it was not meant to be.
Place is cursed.
That State is a mystery to me. Some of the sweetest, kindest people I have ever met but the willing acceptance of graft and corruption is just astounding. It's like it not even a part of the US.
Natives of that State care to explain...?

The criminal element gives the city a bad name, but if you keep away from those certain parts of town, it's fine. That goes for many cities in the U.S. I've lived in New Orleans my entire life (except college). It's true that the people here are nice and hospitable. There's also always something fun to do here on a given night, which makes it such a tourist city. I've been to most major cities in the U.S. and most just feel so generic, with no culture or personality. New Orleans has a certain personality that makes it feel different. San Antonio is similar. As far as the political corruption, it is quite baffling.... hence the nickname "the city that care forgot".

What astounded me was as I went into different neighborhoods, just a couple of streets over, and the neighborhood became noticeably more sketchy. SA is more segregated. Been to NO a number of times and everyone says good morning and seem super nice. The food of course is ungodly good. Oyster poor boy, damn...
Tulane seemed interesting. Lot of Jewish kids undergrad from the NE there, I had no idea. Their Epidemiology Graduate school is top notch. So many private school kids with various uniforms... Quite different.
