This iso ball is nonsense. Kawhi, among others looks very uncomfortable in it.
Yet this is what Popped has chosen. :downspin:

Why are we not continuing with the ball movement no stick 2014 offense?

Our offense is way too stagnant.

Guard play has fallen off. No playmaker can cut into and break apart the defense which makes it easier for the rest of the team. Parker is too slow and can't penetrate into the paint, finish around the rim or hit a wide open jumper. Danny regressed, same with Mills. Manu tries hard but he is a step too slow to do what he did before. Yes the roster is the same technically but the two main playmakers have aged and guards that have relied on their speed don't usually play well in their 30s unless their knockdown shooters, which Parker is not.

Because kawhi cant run a pick and roll and lamarcus never rolls, he camps at mid range area

manu and parker cant turn the corner anymore

Warriors tight defense has countered our offense well. Too often they've attempted to get something opened up with ball movement, failed, and then resorted to a Kawhi iso. So not really his fault. Parker penetration would help.

Danny Green 2016 37%FG & 33%3PTFG
Danny Green 2014 43%FG & 41%3PTFG

Lots of iso's and not enough fluency lately. I'll pin it on Danny sucking though lol

WTF is wrong with this team???? 1 loss at home is bullshit

this team is historically good, and we're complaining. Two all-time teams exist in the same year. GS is favored, but we know Diaw is a key component.

the '14 team's bench was way different btw, tbh. Beli and Tiago with the other 3 foreigners had great chem

We can see it as these losses are a good thing. Lots of people were jumping on the SAS bandwagon despite the Warriors hitting 70 wins. The pressure is now well and truly all 100% on Golden State shall we meet them in the playoffs. Each team has to win 2 rounds first for that to happen and if they do meet San Antonio can play freely as the underdog. We shall see how things pan out.

Lets hope for a first round like Dallas in 2007 who were upset by the 8th seed Warriors helping us win the title or like 2011 where the 8th seed Grizzlies beat the Spurs easing the path for Dallas to win the title. I haven't checked who grabbed the 8 seed, but go them lol.

It's not the same b/c what The Big Three can contribute has diminished.

And the reality is the fluidity of the offense was decent tonight. The problem was four fold:

1. Kawhi not making committed offensive moves and not looking for his offense either.
2. TP not getting penetration and taking those godawful fading left 20 footers early in the shot clock.
3. D. Green not contributing.
4. Mills pressing and taking off balance shots.

All of these are correctable issues is the good news.

Age, and EVERY coach, GM, and their brothers studying that run as if were the Bible or Rosetta Stone.

It's a copycat league, and after the Spurs stormed through Miami, teams started doing the Beautiful Game thing, or at least trying to, and with that, comes studying on how to defend it, so the Spurs no longer have the tactical advantage they once did.

2014 Spurs have identical Offensive Efficiency and TS% to 2016 Spurs.

2016 Spurs have a much better Def Efficiency.

I don't know it's the beautiful game as much as it feels we're shooting like shit. Like, we generated a look of great looks the last few games, and it's clank, clank, clank and not just one player.

I guess it's frustrating when you're a jumpshooting team and you can't make a shot.

Offense has been sputtering for a while, and it makes baskets more work to get. The rebounding by the team last night was a welcome sight. If their jumpers don't come back then they'll lose before the conference finals anyway, but if they rebound and defend the way they did, they'll have a chance in every game.

I think the Warriors defense is far better than many give them credit for, but the Spurs missed open jumpers that have nothing to do with defense. Being down a starter and a key reserve, shooting like crap and still having a chance. I'll take it.

Because Popovich set out on day one to focus on defense to counteract the Warriors offense. It was probably the right decision.

I've always found amusing how a team can struggle collectively. It happens a lot. Should be a mind set or something.

No diaw, no tiago. Duncan and Manu are tired old shitbags. Green and mills shot are broken. And mills is a terrible PG. No Ferrari.

Many many reasons imo

Oh and we are not playing the shitty Heat. Worriers are hands down better at every single position

This Spurs team is good against everyone, but the team with the best reg season record(ever). Maybe just chalk it up to that?

I don't buy the premise that this is the same roster as 2014 or 2013. Aldridge is a substantially better player than Splitter, but he's also fundamentally different and those differences change the geometry of the floor. West is also a better offensive player than Baynes, but to get the benefit of that offensive improvement, the Spurs have to play offense differently than they did in 2013 or 2014. And Kawhi's increased usage has (as others have suggested) also changed the way this team plays because he's become inclined to work much more through isolations and 2-man games than the Beautiful Game Spurs ever would have thought about.

When you couple that with the erosion of the Core, Green's complete collapse, Patty's inconsistency from deep, and the lack (for now) of a Belinelli-type in the bench unit, I don't think the roster is the same in any meaningful way other than the names on the backs of the jerseys.

I don't think Pop forces Kawhi or LA into iso ball situations though play calls, but I think he recognizes that each of them is most effective as the centers of gravity in the offense in those kinds of 1-on-1 or 2-on-2 circumstances. LA is not really built for a constant passing/movement scheme -- at least not if you want to get the most out of him from a production standpoint.

Parker has gotten older...... Danny and patty have gotten worse. Ginobili has gotten worse. Joe Johnson was the guy we needed.
