I hope not. I'm against Mexican teams in CONMEBOL tournaments (especially when they still play in their confederation's cups).

Argie league is ugly as fuck to watch (although this tournament has, surprisingly, been pretty entertaining), but it's clearly the best league in South America right now. Which is strange, 'cause the Brazilian league is by far the one with the most money.

Big club niggas (except Independiente) + Newells/Rosario + Estudiantes/Gimnasia + Banfield + others are rumored to break from AFA and create a new "superleague" like they did in England and Spain, where they can get more money for the clubs and stop the crappy management AFA has.

Yeah we lost against The Strongest but we beat River Plate quite easily tbh.

You're just spiting on the food that you ate

São Paulo started slow but raised their game @ the right time. Libertadores was never about the best group stage team winning it all. As an Argie you should know it better than I do tbh.

A mediocre River Plate won last season and was knocked out by Independiente del Valle (a team without a single 1st division title in Ecuador) this season. Don't blame the tournament, blame teams failing to deliver against bellow average teams.

Fair enough son. But you can't expect to watch a freaking Champions League here. Libertadores's level has declined because our young talent is leaving way earlier compared to the the 90s. The best South American players are all over the place in Europe.

Personally I watch for 2 reasons :

1 - It's my home team
2 - To watch some young talent that wasn't already stolen by Europe (not only SPFC but other teams as well)

the hardest does not mean the best. I agree that south americans play with more expressed passion, but uncontrolled passion leads to lack of discipline, and football, is becoming an increasingly rational sport, dominated by discipline (italy'06, spain'10, germany'14). These days mistakes and chokes are far costlier then slightly inferior talent. Also playing without being overly passionate is not necessarily playing without heart. I can assure you italians are the source of the "latin" in latin america, yet they are disciplined in their organization.

son why are you not a kobe fan? you fit the template to a T, the passion, admiring stats over context, admiring chokers, the weak trolling and the saltiness. You could've been a great kobe fan tbh :lol god bless tbh.

for me the games are wayyy to wide, stronger tactical systems would punish this nonchalance easily imo. SA coaches need to get their asses out of the backwater leagues and learn trade in europe tbh. Imagine simeone coaching argentina tbh... we don't even sniff '14.

Ask any south American star foward/midfielder (and when I say "any", I mean "any". Going from Messi, Maradona, Ronladinho and fat Ronaldo to the shittiest South American forward that has ever played in Europe) where are they defended the hardest. All of them will tell you in south america.

Son I think I get what you're trying to say tbh, in SA stars are defended like NBA stars are defended when they go to monkey events (rucker, showcase league) where the other guys just get overly physical to compensate for lack of skill/coaching but also reach a lot hoping to make a play, so the overall D is pretty horrible and the stars just act as gravity for their teammates, who can do whatever they want against such an asinine defensive structure.
I actually remember seeing a game like this (with messi, not sure against which 3/4th tier team, something like colombia), where messi was doubled/tripled/shadowed leading to multiple hilarious defense collapses, in europe you'd lose your coaching job pretty quickly over such dumbassery but it's SA tbh: niggas think they're contenders after getting rammed 7-1 in front of their moms.

The downside of having the best player ever as a decoy on an island on midfield. It helped the team's defense by having the other team constantly worried about him and comitting many guys forward, and with taking control of possession in midifield 'cause nobody could take the ball out of him without comitting a foul; but we suffered on O because of it. Lmao son higuain >>>>>>>> klose and messi >>>> our entire midfield combined. also don't forget Romero kept you in that tournament more than once so imo he was closer to neuer that many think. And garay/demichelis/mascherano/zabaleta played a quality defense. Your advantage up front should've been decisive, no if buts or maybes.

here are the vegas odds for the first 10 contenders (at tournament start)

Brazil 3/1

Argentina 9/2

Germany 5/1

Spain 7/1

Belgium 14/1

France 20/1

Colombia 22/1

Holland 22/1

Italy 22/1

Uruguay 25/1

Just accept it that we overcame adversity playing in an unfriendly atmosphere (south america) and unfriendly climate (too hot for us :cry) and we still won by beating #1, #2, #6 (grudge match..) and penaldo on our way to the ring, while you barely got by #5, #7 and nigeria/iran in the easiest path to the finals in the last 20 years and still lost it on your own continent, with the would be goat. first absolutely CROLF @ bolded. :lmao:lmao The oddsmakers are some of the most knowledgeable people out there, with brasil they were taxing the casuals but argentina, germany and france were all quality picks tbh.

son we both know that you don't win a world cup just by defending unless you have defensive core of nesta-cannavaro-buffon-zambrotta-gattuso, aka a footballing unicorn (:lol while typing, that's 3 GOATs at their position). So unless you have that (and barely win) you need to score goals and have a good enough defense. The tournament proved that argentina had a very good defense and a competent coach, so with heavyweight attacking pieces like missi/higuain/lavezzi/di maria it should've been a wrap. But it wasn't because missi blew his load on nigeria and iran, he was absolutely pedestrian in both semis and finals, just another goetze tbh. If he would really be the GOAT he should've won that singlehandedly tbh, one good individual goal in 90 mins and that's that.

And tbh you are wrong about my position on the subject, south america has players with far more talent (control, dribbling, vision, instincts, aggresivity), but europe produces better professional footballers because it actually bothers teaching/using fundamentals and also teaches teamwork over individualism (penaldo himself won as a teamplayer). That's why the gap between europe and south merica has been increasing the past 20 years.

Just for the shits, I'll add that argentina only reached the final because it played a modern (european) style, with players who learned their craft in europe, and that we all saw what happens when you bring that south merican favelaball against high quality opponents, they'll put 7 training ground goals in your net, at a walking pace, which leads me to my original point tbh, why are south american teams playing such a dumb style?

A rock solid defense is a defense that defends well without the need of parking the bus. The only reason Argentina didn't concede in any of the 4 elimination games in regulation is 'cause they went full catenaccio. They couldn't played an open style because they lacked quality defenders to defend on the open field, that's why they needed to park the bus. And if you park the bus, your offense suffers. And that's what happened.

Also, Di Maria didn't play in the final. I don't know why you keep bringing him up, tbh.

Son, if they played so much catennacio was there a lot of OPEN space available for a goat to go on a maradona run tbh? what did misty do? he played defense? no son, he shat the bed, defense was assured, space to attack was assured, match importance was assured, basically the table was set and yet he did nothing. GOAT my ass. Man up and accept it that he has GOAT talent but none of the GOAT intangibles, and his claim to GOAT is waning by the year.

There was no space to counter, opposing teams left a lot of players on D because of respect to the GOAT, tbh. That's also why Argentina didn't suffer much on D. Pretty much every Argentina game on the elsemination stage was guaranteed to finish 0-0.

I've been talking about the whole tournament, giving the odds before the tournament, talking about tournament opponents, how it led up to the final and why germany had inferior talent to a team with great defense and messi/higuain/lavezzi up front, and so on. Di maria was an integral piece of that team tbh. In the final di maria didn't play but I though for one final messi might actually do a goat game when it matters. Boy was I wrong... :lol

And without international play only big UCL games are worth it, I'm relegated to watching penaldo scored hat tricks because the goat is busy securing 2nd place in the league vs las palmas :cry

It made me remember when I lived in South America, once visiting some friends to Callao, Lima we were heading to some fancy resto with superb food. But one wrong turn, and some kids started throwing stones with from insane distance and precision. We went the f out of there rally style laughing all the way. Fortunately, to windows were broke.

What I don't understand is how those buses don't have protective films on the glasses, I always had them in my cars while living in Peru.

River should be suspended for two years. Shameful display by river fans.

If boca wasn't suspended for two years for an attack to River fans during the middle of a game and inside their stadium, why would River get suspended for something that happened hours prior to the game and like 10 blocks from their stadium? :lol

I don't think you can do that. If this were to happen, it's a licence to start throwing shit at your own team's bus and/or players to get a free victory. By no means am I trying defend this shit show, but worse things have happened with less consequences. Remember the tear gas incident a couple of years ago? That was actually inside the stadium.

In this case, mistakes were made on so many more levels. Which genius came up with the brilliant idea to drive said bus through Monroe street? Which genius, wearing a police outfit, decided to take Boca straight into an ambush, only to go HAM with tear gas once more?

Many journalists are saying that this was all a plot by Angelici (boca's president) and the political power (many close friends of Angelici, like for example Martín Ocampos, who coincidently quitted his job as security minister of Bs As after the incidents) to get River suspended.

This Martin Ocampos guy decided to break into the house of River's hooligans chief and confiscate millions of pesos made from the typical dirty business these guys have. No problem there, right? Theoretically no, but the thing is that everybody knows about this shit here and nobody ever does shit about it. But, oh, coincidence! they decided to do something the night before to the most important game in Argentina's history.

Everybody knows that when you get with these mobs they will not wait standing, there's a payback coming, and with the game on the next day everybody knew the payback would come on that day.

So, not happy with doing this the night before the game, they also pull some dirty ass shit to have a lax security on the path of the boca bus. With the normal security norms the fans are farther away from the bus and behind huge security fences, but what would you know? there was nothing of that on this instance, the most important game in history.

Why did they decided to fuck the hooligans business the night before the game? Why didn't they do the same with the boca hooligans? Why did the normal security precautions weren't used? Because they wanted all of this to happen.

How can you certainly prove that the ones that caused the incident are indeed River fans? And even if they were, why does River as a club has to pay for what other people (River fans or not) do outside their club? If River fans would have thrown stones to the boca bus near the bombonera, it would still be River's fault? Your logic is flawed son.

I'm pretty sure Boca fans won't wear River jerseys AND be filmed throwing the rocks. But if you want to go that route, that's fine, let the justice investigate.

The point I was making is that if River players were injured in a similar action, D'Onofrio would be doing the same thing (which he did, BTW)... there's nothing weird with what Angelici is doing.

lol why? If you are willing to pull this kind of delinquent act, putting on another's team jersey is hardly an obstacle, tbh. :lol

But anyways, that's not the point. What a civilian (no matter what team that person is) does outside the confines of a club shouldn't be justification enough to punish said club. If not, where do we draw the line?

If you suddenly start giving games to the teams that get attacked, no matter where it is, then what's stopping the fans of said teams to put on another's teams' jerseys and start bombing away? They know that in that way they will get the pts. You would be guaranteeing your team the win.

That's why you make the distinction of incidents that happen inside the stadium and incidents outside it.

The point I was making is that if River players were injured in a similar action, D'Onofrio would be doing the same thing (which he did, BTW)... there's nothing weird with what Angelici is doing.

All D'onofrio did was showing the medical analysis of the affected players, Conmebol then decided, on its own, to disqualify boca. River never released an official petition to get boca disqualified.

The momentum has definitely shifted towards River. Since early 2000's Boca became clearly better than River, winning many local tournies, varios Libertadores and Intercontinental coups in the process. However, since Macri left, Boca isn't the same and River is once again the better team, particularly since Gallardo took the team.
